Characteristics of multicystic biliary hamartoma: A case report.

Introduction: Multicystic biliary hamartoma (MCBH) is a very rare hepatic benign neoplasm that manifests as a localized cystic-solid mass. Only 17 cases have been described in the literature to date. MCBH diagnosis is currently dependent on imaging and pathology following surgical resection and no precise standards are in place.

Combining local regional therapy and systemic therapy: Expected changes in the treatment landscape of recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma.

Improvements in early screening, new diagnostic techniques, and surgical treatment have led to continuous downward trends in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) morbidity and mortality rates. However, high recurrence and refractory cancer after hepatectomy remain important factors affecting the long-term prognosis of HCC. The clinical characteristics and prognosis of recurrent HCC are heterogeneous, and guidelines on treatment strategies for recurrent HCC are lacking.

Value of Preoperative Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index and Albumin-Bilirubin Grade in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma Undergoing Transarterial Embolization.

Background: The systemic immune-inflammation index reflects the systematic inflammatory status, and the albumin-bilirubin grade reflects the liver function. In patients with hepatocellular carcinoma receiving transarterial chemoembolization, their combined clinical utility has not been fully explored. Herein, we purposed to determine the prognostic worthiness of systemic immune-inflammation index -albumin-bilirubin scores in patients receiving transarterial chemoembolization for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma.

HAIC versus TACE for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) and Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) both showed good local efficacy in advanced or unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the effect of HAIC with TACE in patients with unresectable HCC.

Methods: Clinical trials, which were about HAIC or TACE in Patients with unresectable HCC, were identified by searching PubMed, Medline, and EMBASE from January 2010 to March 2022.

Early Awake Prone Position Combined with High-Flow Nasal Oxygen Therapy in Severe COVID-19: A Case Series.

Background: Awake prone positioning has been used for non-intubated patients with COVID-19-related acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure, but the results are contradictory. We aimed to highlight the role of awake prone positioning combined with high-flow nasal oxygen therapy in severe COVID-19 patients infected with the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: From June 12 to December 7, 2021, we successfully performed prone position(PP) combined with high-flow nasal oxygen(HFNO) therapy on two patients infected with the delta variant of SARS-CoV-2.

Prophylactic antibiotics on patients with cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding: A meta-analysis.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of different prophylactic antibiotic treatments for cirrhosis patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) and to investigate whether prophylactic antibiotics are equally beneficial to reducing the risk of adverse outcomes in A/B with low Child-Pugh scores.

Methods: Relevant studies were searched via PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), Wanfang, and VIP databases up to July 16, 2021. The heterogeneity test was conducted for each outcome measuring by I2 statistics.

Purpose: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which primarily infects the lower airways and binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) on alveolar epithelial cells. ACE2 is widely expressed not only in the lungs but also in the cardiovascular system. Therefore, SARS-CoV-2 can also damage the myocardium.

Nine-year survival of a 60-year-old woman with locally advanced pancreatic cancer under repeated open approach radiofrequency ablation: A case report.

Background: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is gaining popularity as an additional therapy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. RFA appears to be an attractive treatment option for patients with unresectable, locally advanced and nonmetastatic pancreatic cancer.

Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) can be induced by several factors. However, AMI induced by Kounis syndrome (an allergic reaction) is extremely rare and is highly susceptible to misdiagnosis.

Case Summary: A 70-year-old man presented after suffering an allergic reaction that caused chest pain triggered upon eating ice cream.

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A2/B1 as a novel biomarker in elderly patients for the prediction of postoperative neurocognitive dysfunction: A prospective nested case-control study.

Background And Objective: Postoperative neurocognitive dysfunction (PND) occurs in up to 54% of older patients, giving rise to the heavy psychological and economic burdens to patients and society. To date, the development of PND biomarkers remains a challenge. Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A2/B1 (hnRNPA2/B1) is an RNA-binding protein whose prion-like structure is prone to mutation and hence leads to neurodegenerative diseases, but its expression changes in PND remains unclear.

Development and validation of lymph node ratio-based nomograms for primary duodenal adenocarcinoma after surgery.

Background: The prediction models for primary duodenal adenocarcinoma (PDA) are deficient. This study aimed to determine the predictive value of the lymph node ratio (LNR) in PDA patients and to establish and validate nomograms for predicting overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) for PDAs after surgical resection.

Methods: We extracted the demographics and clinicopathological information of PDA patients between 2004 and 2018 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive ability of preoperative plasma biomarkers along with cerebral oxygen saturation (SctO) for the incidence of PND in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). A total of 210 patients aged 65-80 years undergoing spinal surgery were randomly assigned to three groups ( = 70 each): propofol, sevoflurane, and propofol/sevoflurane as anesthesia maintenance protocols.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the correlations between serum hepatitis B core-related antigen (HBcrAg) and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) titers in patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis and a hepatitis B virus (HBV)-DNA-negative status.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data and blood samples of patients who were diagnosed with HBV liver cirrhosis and an HBV-DNA negative status. These patients were hospitalized between October 2018 and October 2019 at one hospital.

Surgical treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism combined with Sagliker syndrome caused by chronic renal failure: a case report.

Background: Sagliker syndrome is caused by severe secondary hyperparathyroidism in hemodialysis patients with chronic renal failure. It is mainly manifested by disturbances of calcium and phosphorus metabolism and bone changes, which eventually lead to abnormal changes in facial appearance and morphology, seriously affecting the quality of life of patients. With the improvement of management mode and technology for hemodialysis in chronic renal failure, the incidence of severe secondary hyperparathyroidism related to hemodialysis is relatively reduced.

Isolated gastric variceal bleeding related to non-cirrhotic portal hypertension following oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy: A case report.

Background: Sinusoidal obstruction syndrome has been reported after oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy, but liver fibrosis and non-cirrhotic portal hypertension (NCPH) are rarely reported.

Case Summary: Here, we describe the case of a 64-year-old woman who developed isolated gastric variceal bleeding 16 mo after completing eight cycles of oxaliplatin combined with capecitabine chemotherapy after colon cancer resection. Surprisingly, splenomegaly and thrombocytopenia were not accompanied by variceal bleeding, which has been reported to have predictive value for gastric variceal formation.

Background: Thermal ablation is one of the first-line treatments for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with a massive potential of long-term cure. However, it is disadvantaged by the relatively high rate of postoperative recurrence. We have discovered a new index of teardrop distance (TD) for assessing instability.

Application of DCE-US using the LI-RADS for patients with liver nodules at high risk for hepatocellular carcinoma: A preliminary study and comparison with visual interpretation.

Objective: To explore the value of dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (DCE-US) for the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS).

Methods: We included 220 liver nodules at high risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) from January 2019 to October 2021. Visual interpretation and DCE-US-based quantitative categories using VueBox® software were compared for consistency, nodule enhancement intensity, and washout onset following the contrast-enhanced ultrasound LI-RADS.

Introduction: We aimed to systemically investigate the diagnostic capacity of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1)/placental growth factor (PlGF) ratio in fetal growth restriction (FGR).

Methods: We systematically searched the PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases for relevant studies from inception to 15 May 2022. All potentially relevant studies were assessed and then pooled.

Diagnostic and prognostic nomograms for newly diagnosed intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with brain metastasis: A population-based analysis.

Brain metastasis (BM) is one of the rare metastatic sites of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). ICC with BM can seriously affect the quality of life of patients and lead to a poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to establish two nomograms to estimate the risk of BM in ICC patients and the prognosis of ICC patients with BM.
