Background: Cerebral ischemia-hypoxia leads to excitotoxicity-mediated neuronal damage and cognitive dysfunction, especially in the elderly. Excessive intracellular [Cl ] accumulation weakens γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) compensatory effects. Sub-anesthetic dose of propofol protected the brain against ischemia-hypoxia, which was abolished by blocking Cl efflux transporter K /Cl cotransporter 2 (KCC2).

Renal dysfunction is associated with increased mortality and length of hospital stay in critically ill patients. However, it remains unclear whether the early administration of an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI)/angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) for intensive care unit patients with renal dysfunction is associated with reduced in-hospital mortality. We conducted a retrospective analysis of critically ill patients who received early administration of an ACEI/ARB within 72 hours after being hospitalized.

Durability of immune response after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in patients with chronic liver disease.

Aim: The present study aimed to evaluate the durability of immune response after basic and booster immunization with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD).

Methods: Patients with CLD and complete basic or booster immunization with SARS-CoV-2 vaccines were included in this study. Based on the vaccination situation, they were divided into the basic immunity group (Basic) and the booster immunity group (Booster), which were then subdivided into four groups according to the time interval from completion of basic immunization or booster immunization to serological specimen collection.

Non-cirrhotic portal hypertension secondary to cholangiointestinal anastomotic stricture after choledochal cyst excision: a case report.

Background: Cystectomy accompanied by biliary system reconstruction is an important treatment option for choledochal cysts, but the risk of post-operative complications is high. The most famous long-term complication is anastomotic stricture, whereas non-cirrhotic portal hypertension secondary to cholangiointestinal anastomotic stricture is rare.

[Risk factors of gastrointestinal polypectomy concurrent with bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis].

To investigate and analyze the occurrence and the related risk factors of gastrointestinal polypectomy accompanied by bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis. 127 cases of gastrointestinal polyps with cirrhosis who had endoscopy at the Endoscopic Center of Tianjin Third Central Hospital between November 2017 and November 2020 were collected. At the same time, 127 cases of gastrointestinal polyps with non-cirrhosis that were treated by endoscopy were collected for comparison.

Background: As a common postsurgery complication, sleep deprivation (SD) can severely deteriorate the cognitive function of patients. Enriched environment (EE) exposure can increase children's cognitive ability, and whether EE exposure could be utilized to alleviate postsurgery SD-induced cognitive impairments is investigated in this study.

Methods: Open inguinal hernia repair surgery without skin/muscle retraction was performed on Sprague-Dawley male rats (9-week-old), which were further exposed to EE or standard environment (SE).

Background: Stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) was developed to reduce the impact of long-term chronic glycemic factors on stress hyperglycemia levels, which have been linked to clinical adverse events. However, the relationship between SHR and the short- and long-term prognoses of intensive care unit (ICU) patients remains unclear.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 3,887 ICU patients (cohort 1) whose initial fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c data within 24 hours of admission were available and 3,636 ICU patients (cohort 2) who were followed-up for 1-year using the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV v2.

AN3CA EC cells with PTEN deficiency were treated with different cisplatin and PDD0017273, alone or in combination.
