Detection and Significance of Cell-Free DNA Mutation in Pleural Effusion in Patients with Advanced NSCLC.

Emerg Med Int

June 2022

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Tianjin Hospital of ITCWM, Nankai Hospital, Tianjin 300100, China.

Objective: To detect EGFR/KRAS genes in pleural effusion cell-free DNA in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to explore the clinical significance of EGFR/KRAS mutation status in pleural effusion.

Methods: A retrospective collection was performed on the specimens of pleural effusion and matched tissues from 50 patients with advanced NSCLC admitted to the hospital between January 2019 and January 2021. DNA mutation status of EGFR/KRAS in different specimens was detected and compared by pyrosequencing.

The presentation of neoantigens on the cell membrane is the foundation for most cancer immunotherapies. Due to their extremely low abundance, analyzing neoantigens in clinical samples is technically difficult, hindering the development of neoantigen-based therapeutics for more general use in the treatment of diverse cancers worldwide. Here, we describe an integrated system, "Valid-NEO", which reveals patient-specific cancer neoantigen therapeutic targets from minute amounts of clinical samples through direct observation, without computer-based prediction, in a sensitive, rapid, and reproducible manner.

Over recent years, feature selection (FS) has gained more attention in intelligent diagnosis. This study is aimed at evaluating FS methods in a unified framework for mammographic breast cancer diagnosis. After FS methods generated rank lists according to feature importance, the framework added features incrementally as the input of random forest which performed as the classifier for breast lesion classification.

Pancreatic stellate cells regulate branched-chain amino acid metabolism in pancreatic cancer.

Ann Transl Med

March 2021

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin's Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin, China.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the most lethal malignancy: it has a 5-year survival rate of less than 9%. Although surgical resection is an effective treatment for PDAC, only a small number of patients can have their tumors surgically removed. Thus, an urgent need to find new therapeutic targets for PDAC exists.

Background: Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) has been widely applied to detect lymph node (LN) and lymph node metastasis (LNM) in various cancers, including papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate metastatic cervical lymph nodes (LNs) <0.5 cm in patients with PTC using DECT, which has not been done in previous studies.

Prediction of ipsilateral lateral cervical lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid carcinoma: a combined dual-energy CT and thyroid function indicators study.

BMC Cancer

March 2021

Department of Radiology, Tianjin First Central Hospital, School of Medicine, Nankai University, No. 24 Fu Kang Road, Nan Kai District, Tianjin, 300192, China.

Background: Predicting the possibility of ipsilateral lateral cervical lymph node metastasis (ipsi-LLNM) was crucial to the operation plan for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). This study aimed to investigate the independent risk factors for ipsi-LLNM in PTC patients by combining dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) with thyroid function indicators.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 406 patients with a pathological diagnosis of PTC from Jan 2016 to Dec 2019.

Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) nuclear-enriched assembly transcript 1 (NEAT1) has been reported to be highly expressed in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the mechanism of NEAT1 in PD progression has not been fully elucidated. 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine injection (MPTP) was used to construct PD mouse models in vivo, and 1-methyl-4-phenyl pyridine (MPP) was used to build PD cell models in vitro.

Multiomics Integrative Analysis for Discovering the Potential Mechanism of Dioscin against Hyperuricemia Mice.

J Proteome Res

January 2021

State Key Laboratory of Component-Based Chinese Medicine, Tianjin Key Laboratory of TCM Chemistry and Analysis, 10 Poyanghu Road, Jinghai District, Tianjin 301617, China.

Hyperuricemia is a well-known key risk factor for gout and can cause a variety of metabolic diseases. Several studies have shown that dioscin could improve metabolic symptoms and reduce the uric acid level in blood. However, there is no comprehensive metabolomic study on the anti-hyperuricemia effects of dioscin.

Based on the expert consensus on parenteral and enteral nutrition support for geriatric patients in China in 2013, domestic multidisciplinary experts were gathered to summarize the new evidence in the field of elderly nutritional support at home and abroad. The 2013 consensus was comprehensively updated and upgraded to a guideline by referring to the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system for grading evidence. These guidelines were divided into two parts: general conditions and common diseases.

Xin Su Ning (XSN), a China patented and certified multi-herbal medicine, has been available in China since 2005 for treating cardiac ventricular arrhythmia including arrhythmia induced by ischemic heart diseases and viral myocarditis, without adverse reactions being reported. It is vitally important to discover pharmacologically how XSN as a multicomponent medicine exerts its clinical efficacy, and whether the therapeutic effect of XSN can be verified by standard clinical trial studies. In this paper we report our discoveries in a cellular electrophysiological study and in a three-armed, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter trial.

Chemotherapeutic drugs that induce DNA damage have the potential to kill cancer cells, but DNA repair protects cells from damage-induced cell death. Thus, eliminating DNA repair is a potential approach to overcome cell drug resistance. In this study, we observed that the gene expression of C-terminal binding protein interacting protein (CTIP) was promoted by TNF-α stimulation and prevented TNF-α-induced double-strand breaks (DSBs) in the genomes of cervical cancer cells.
