Institute for Occupational Health, Tianjin Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Tianjin 300011, China.

Welding operations are widely present in the manufacturing production process, involving a large number of occupational groups, and are the key occupations where work injuries and occupational diseases occur in China. For different welding processes and welding materials, the content and focus of occupational health monitoring are different. At present, the item of occupational health examination in welding operation is in poor consistency with the on-site exposure of occupational hazard factors, and it is mainly concentrated in the stage of disease development, which can not reflect the early health damage caused by welding dust exposure in time.

Electronic address:

Background: A growing body of evidence suggests the deleterious effects of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) on kidney, but little is known on the association between PFASs joint exposure and uric acid.

Methods: Serum PFASs concentrations were measured in 661 participants recruited from Tianjin, China using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. The associations of single PFASs exposure with uric acid levels and hyperuricemia were assessed using multivariable linear and logistic regression models, respectively.

Wang, Dr Zhang, Ms Huang, Dr Y. Wang, Dr Li); and Institute of Non-Communicable Diseases Control and Prevention, Tianjin Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Mr X.-H. Wang), Tianjin, China.

Objective: The aims of this study were to determine the association of skeletal muscle mass with three cardiovascular risk factors and explore a simple and clinically feasible indicator for identifying high-risk groups of cardiovascular diseases in occupational sedentary population.

Methods: We recruited 7316 occupational sedentary participants older than 18 years from the Health Management Center of Tianjin Union Medical Center. Age-adjusted logistic regression was used to analyze the association between skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) and cardiovascular risk factors.

Previously, our group found that the dietary trace mineral element selenium and vitamin B (VitB) alone was involved in lipid metabolism. However, the effects of selenium combined with VitB on hyperlipidemia and lipid metabolism have not been reported until now. We hypothesized that selenium and VitB cosupplementation would alleviate the hyperlipidemic and hepatic dysfunction and with minimum side effects in a Sprague-Dawley rat model of hyperlipidemia induced by a high-fat diet.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on the HIV epidemic among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China, noting a recent rise in new infections related to male-male sexual contact and the need to understand changes in sexual behaviors and their link to HIV risk.
  • - Conducted from 2011 to 2019, the research categorized MSM into three behavioral types based on their condom use and number of sexual partners and tracked changes over time to assess HIV infection risk.
  • - Results showed a notable increase in the 'protective' and 'moderate' behavior types, leading to a decrease in HIV incidence among these groups, while those categorized as 'fragile' had significantly higher HIV risks.
