Objectives: To construct an improved air health index (AHI) based on cardiovascular years of life lost (YLL) in Tianjin and assess its utility.
Methods: We derived the exposure-response coefficients from time-series models and calculated the excess YLL (EYLL) for simultaneous exposure to air pollution and non-optimum temperature. The AHI was developed using the EYLL at the WHO 2021 Air Quality Guideline annual mean values and optimum temperature as a reference.

Iodine and fluorine, as halogen elements, are often coexisting in water environments, with nearly 200 million people suffering from fluorosis globally, and, in 11 countries and territories, adolescents have iodine intakes higher than that required for the prevention of iodine deficiency disorders. It has been suggested that excess iodine and/or fluorine can affect thyroid health and intellectual development, especially in children, but their combined effect has been less studied in this population. This study investigated 399 school-age children in Tianjin, China, collected drinking water samples from areas where the school-age children lived, and grouped the respondents according to iodine and fluorine levels.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and changing trends of non-smokers with lung cancer (LC) based on data from a population-wide cancer registry in northern China.
Methods: The study used LC incidence and follow-up data from 2010 to 2019 from the Cancer Registry System of Tianjin city, which included 82769 cases. Trends in the incidence and proportion of non-smokers with LC were examined by joinpoint regression analysis.

Total cholesterol (TC) and the cholesterol oxidation product 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OHC) are both increased in the elderly. Accumulating evidence has linked 27-OHC to glucose metabolism in the brain, while docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been shown to positively regulate the 27-OHC levels. However, it is unclear whether DHA may affect glucose metabolism in the brain by regulating 27-OHC levels.

Background: With the implementation of the universal salt iodization, the iodine nutrition for children and adults has been appropriate, but pregnant women are still at risk of iodine deficiency. It is of great public health significance to explore the iodine status and knowledge, and influence factors and the appropriate health education methods among pregnant and lactating women.
Methods: From January 2022 to December 2023, at least 50 pregnant women and 50 lactating women were randomly selected from the resident population annually in 16 districts of Tianjin, North China.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at a high risk of HIV infection and should be offered effective preventive measures, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). However, PrEP uptake among eligible MSM was not as high as desired. Diverse research findings on how risky sexual behaviors affect PrEP uptake highlight the necessity for a comprehensive investigation.

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C) are essential in improving cognitive function and protecting neurocytes. This study explored the effects of the combined intervention of MCTs and DHA on inhibiting neurocyte apoptosis of the brain and improving cognitive function in senescence-accelerated mouse-prone 8 (SAMP8). Four-month-old male SAMP8 mice were randomly divided into four treatment groups (12 mice/group): DHA, MCT, DHA + MCT, and control groups, which intervened for seven months.

Background: Several studies have demonstrated the population-level effectiveness of oral PrEP in reducing the risk of HIV infection. However, oral PrEP utilization among MSM in China remains below 1%. While existing literature has primarily focused on oral PrEP preference and willingness, there is limited exploration of the underlying factors contributing to oral PrEP cessation in China.

Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) have recently emerged as noninvasive disease biomarkers. Quantitative detection of circulating miRNAs could offer significant information for clinical diagnosis due to its significance in the development of biological processes. In response to the current challenges of circulating miRNA detection, we introduce a sensitive, selective, and versatile circulating miRNA detection strategy using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)-catalyzed RNA-primed DNA polymerization (TCRDP) coupled with semiarbitrary qPCR (SAPCR).

To analyze the characteristics of high-frequency average hearing loss in both ears of noise exposed workers in Tianjin in 2020, and quantitatively analyze the influencing factors of high-frequency hearing loss in both ears of workers. In March 2023, Collect and organize basic information about noise-hazardous enterprises and personal information of workers exposed to noise. Data from the Tianjin Occupational Disease and Health Hazard Factors Information Monitoring System from January 2020 to December 2020, and analyze the impact of basic information of employees, enterprise size, regional distribution, industry category, and economic type on the high-frequency average hearing loss of workers during work.

Environmental exposures are the main cause of cancer, and their carcinogenicity has not been fully evaluated, identifying potential carcinogens that have not been evaluated is critical for safety. This study is the first to propose a weight of evidence (WoE) approach based on computational methods to prioritize potential carcinogens. Computational methods such as read across, structural alert, (Quantitative) structure-activity relationship and chemical-disease association were evaluated and integrated.

To analyze the effects of changes in the spectrum of deaths from malignant tumors on the life expectancies of residents of different ages, sexes, and regions (urban or rural) in Tianjin from 1999 to 2019. The Abridged Life Table method and the Arriaga's decomposition method were used to calculate the effects of changes in spectrum of deaths from malignant tumors on the life expectancies of Tianjin residents of different ages, sexes, and regions. During 1999-2019, the life expectancies increased by 4.
