Objectives: Patients with sepsis are often comorbid with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and the phenotypic characteristics of pulmonary and non-pulmonary infections leading to ARDS are still unclear. This study aimed to compare the phenotypic characteristics of ARDS resulting from pulmonary infections and other non-site infections and provide better guidance for clinical treatment.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter cohort analysis using data from the Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV), and the electronic intensive care unit (eICU) databases.

The migration, proliferation, and apoptosis of trophoblastic cells play a crucial role in ensuring the effective preservation of pregnancy at the maternal-fetal interface. Any deviations in the structure and function of these cells might potentially result in the development of numerous pregnancy-related disorders, including missed abortion (MA). This study involved the examination of () expression in missed abortion = 18) and normal early pregnancy ( = 18) villus.

Int Immunopharmacol

May 2024

School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Tianjin University, Tianjin, PR China. Electronic address:

Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is a common cause of cancer-related death. Due to the difficulty in early diagnosis and drug resistance, conventional treatments are difficult to be effective. Some studies have found that the functional recovery of T cells in the tumor microenvironment, especially regulatory T cells (Tregs), plays an important role in the progression of cancer.

In vitro characteristics of Epirubicin-loaded thermosensitive liquid embolic agent.

J Cancer Res Ther

December 2023

Department of Interventional Therapy, Tianjin Medical University Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin's Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how well epirubicin, a cancer drug, could be loaded and released from thermosensitive liquid embolic agents in a lab setting.
  • Using high-performance liquid chromatography, researchers measured drug loading and release rates, finding a sustained release of 42.65% over 48 hours, but noting that adding iopromide reduced the drug loading capacity.
  • The findings suggest that while epirubicin can be effectively loaded into these agents, the presence of iopromide negatively impacts their capacity to hold the drug.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays crucial roles in several important biological functions such as embryogenesis, epithelial tissue development, and cellular regeneration. However, in multiple solid tumor types overexpression and/or activating mutations of the gene frequently occur, thus hijacking the EGFR signaling pathway to promote tumorigenesis. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tumors in particular often contain prevalent and shared EGFR mutations that provide an ideal source for public neoantigens (NeoAg).

The diagnosis of sepsis still lacks a practical and reliable gold standard. The purpose of this study was to confirm the effect of soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) combined with soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) in the diagnosis of sepsis through the correlation between sTREM-1, sST2, and sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) scores. Baseline data of 91 patients with sepsis in the intensive care unit were collected, sTREM-1 and sST2 were detected, and the correlation between markers and SOFA score was analyzed.

Eur J Pharmacol

November 2023

State Key Laboratory of Medicinal Biology, College of Pharmacy and Tianjin Key Laboratory of Molecular Drug Research, Nankai University, Tianjin, 300353, China. Electronic address:

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive fibrotic lung disease characterized by myofibroblast proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition that has a high mortality rate and limited therapeutic options. Flavokawain A(FKA) is the major component of chalcone in kava extract. FKA has been reported to inhibit TGF-β1-induced cardiomyocyte fibrosis by suppressing ROS production in A7r5 cells, but the role and mechanism of FKA in pulmonary fibrosis are unknown.

FOXO3 regulates Smad3 and Smad7 through SPON1 circular RNA to inhibit idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Int J Biol Sci

July 2023

The State Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemical Biology, College of Pharmacy and Key Laboratory of Molecular Drug Research, Nankai University.

Forkhead box protein O3 (FOXO3) has good inhibition ability toward fibroblast activation and extracellular matrix, especially for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. How FOXO3 regulates pulmonary fibrosis remains unclear. In this study, we reported that FOXO3 had binding sequences with F-spondin 1 (SPON1) promoter, which can activate its transcription and selectively promote the expression of SPON1 circRNA (circSPON1) but not mRNA expression.

Wnt/β-catenin Signaling Inhibitors.

Curr Top Med Chem

June 2023

Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, 518055, Guangdong, China.

The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway plays a crucial role in the development, tissue homeostasis, angiogenesis, and carcinogenesis of cancer. Mutations and excessive activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in cancer cells and cancer stem cells lead to drug resistance and recurrence of cancer in patients treated with conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Upregulation of proangiogenic factors is persistently induced by hyperactivated Wnt/β-catenin signaling during tumor angiogenesis.
