Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is an essential diagnostic tool for detecting malignancy in thyroid nodules. The objective of this study was to evaluate the necessity of FNAB in the treatment decision-making process for thyroid nodules exceeding 3 cm in size. The records of patients who underwent thyroidectomy in our center between 2018 and 2023 were retrospectively reviewed.

Background And Aims: Thyroid cancer, a prevalent endocrine malignancy, often presents as thyroid nodules, whose benign or malignant nature is challenging to determine. This study aims to identify circulating miRNA panels that may distinguish between benign nodules, papillary thyroid cancer, and normal thyroid conditions, building on extensive research into miRNAs as potential thyroid cancer biomarkers.
Materials And Methods: As a cross-sectional case-control study the study revealed the quantification of the 17-miRNA panel was evaluated using qRT-PCR method on 60 blood samples, comprising 25 patients diagnosed with PTC, 24 patients with benign lesions, and 11 healthy controls.

Summary: A 56-year-old woman with cervical pain with a history of ovarian clear cell carcinoma stage IIIC was admitted to a primary care doctor. Ultrasonography revealed a microhyperechoic nodule in the thyroid gland and cervical lymph node enlargement, and fine-needle aspiration was performed. The results showed malignancy, and she was admitted to our hospital.

Autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTNs) represent ∼5% of all thyroid nodules and often necessitate definitive treatments such as surgery or radioiodine (I), both of which have inherent risks. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as an effective and safe therapeutic option for managing AFTNs. This study aims to assess the effectiveness and safety of RFA for solitary AFTNs in various countries across Latin America.

Background: The lack of standardization in risk stratification systems (RSSs) has led to uncertainty in selecting the most effective RSS for diagnosing malignancy risk in thyroid nodules. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of four current score-based RSSs according to thyroid nodule size, with the goal of determining the most effective RSS and aiding in clinical decision-making.
Methods: Between July 2013 and January 2019, a total of 2,667 consecutive patients presenting with 3,944 thyroid nodules were pathologically diagnosed after thyroidectomy and/or ultrasound (US)-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA).

Purpose: This study aims to design an auxiliary segmentation model for thyroid nodules to increase diagnostic accuracy and efficiency, thereby reducing the workload of medical personnel.
Methods: This study proposes a Dual-Path Attention Mechanism (DPAM)-UNet++ model, which can automatically segment thyroid nodules in ultrasound images. Specifically, the model incorporates dual-path attention modules into the skip connections of the UNet++ network to capture global contextual information in feature maps.

Background: Chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis is an autoimmune thyroid disorder and the most common cause of hypothyroidism in women. Many studies suggest that chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis contributes to a diagnostic challenge in thyroid nodules and may increase the risk of developing papillary thyroid cancer. This study examines preoperative clinical factors and tumor characteristics associated with papillary thyroid cancer among patients with chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis.

Malignant thyroid nodules are closely linked to cancer, making the precise classification of thyroid nodules into benign and malignant categories highly significant. However, the subtle differences in contour between benign and malignant thyroid nodules, combined with the texture features obscured by the inherent noise in ultrasound images, often result in low classification accuracy in most models. To address this, we propose a Bidirectional Interaction Directional Variance Attention Model based on Increased-Transformer, named IFormer-DVNet.

Background: The management of thyroid nodules diagnosed as Bethesda III by fine-needle aspiration presents certain challenges, and there is an urgent need for a non-invasive and accurate method for early identification of the benign or malignant nature of Bethesda III nodules. Our objective is to develop and validate a clinical-radiomics nomogram based on preoperative ultrasound (US) images and clinical features, for predicting the malignancy of thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology (Bethesda III).
Methods: Between June 2017 and June 2022, we conducted a retrospective study on 274 patients with surgically confirmed indeterminate cytology (Bethesda III) across two separate medical centers in Shanghai.

Background: Thyroid cancer is one of the most common endocrine tumors and preoperative diagnosis of thyroid follicular neoplasm (FN) is challenging. Commonly used examination methods have difficulty in distinguishing thyroid cancer from other follicular lesions. At the same time, with the recently released World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, the risk classification of FNs of the thyroid is a new enlightenment for clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment.

Background: Although ultrasound (US) has been widely adopted as the preferred imaging modality for thyroid nodule evaluation, its reliability in distinguishing follicular adenomas from adenocarcinomas based on US features has been a subject of debate. The primary objective of our study was to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy of US-derived intratumoral and peritumoral radiomics in preoperatively differentiating follicular thyroid adenomas from adenocarcinomas, thereby contributing to the ongoing discussion regarding this challenging distinction.
Methods: In total, 195 patients who were pathologically diagnosed with thyroid follicular neoplasm were retrospectively enrolled in this study.

Objective: The field of endocrine surgery has been expanding its minimally invasive techniques to treat a wide range of thyroid pathologies. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is one targeted thermal therapy that has been identified as safe and effective for the treatment of benign pathologies as an alternative to surgery. We have employed RFA at our institution and are reporting our experience with this techniques safety, efficacy, and considerations in the treatment of toxic adenomas and multinodular goiters.

Purpose: Although thyroid nodules are less common in the pediatric population, the risk of malignancy is higher than in adult patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ultrasonographic predictive factors of malignancy in thyroid nodules and to validate American College of Radiologists (ACR) TI-RADS performance in transition age patients.
Methods: One hundred forty-two patients aged between 14 and 21 years referred to the participating centers for FNA biopsy of a thyroid nodule between 2007 and 2022 were included and ultrasound reports and sonographic images were retrospectively analyzed.

In the thyroid, abnormal growth can be the result of either benign thyroid nodules (BTNs) or differentiated thyroid cancers (DTCs). If the growth is confirmed to be a DTC, surgical intervention, either a partial or total thyroidectomy, is recommended. Although a majority of BTNs do not require treatment, intervention becomes necessary when nodules cause symptoms, enlargement, or a rare suspicion of malignancy.

Concomitant medullary thyroid carcinoma and papillary thyroid carcinoma in the thyroid gland are rare; however, the incidence is increasing. Here, we present the case of a 77-year-old male who was incidentally found to have thyroid nodules after a road traffic accident.
