We present the case of a 74-year-old female patient with a 50 mm ascending aortic aneurysm who underwent ascending aorta replacement. During routine open heart surgery, suboptimal flow in the cardiopulmonary bypass circuit, led to the discovery of a type B aortic dissection with substantial flow in the false lumen. Conservative management was chosen, focusing on blood pressure control in the ICU.

Background: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limb is a significant clinical challenge with the potential for recurrence, which can lead to increased morbidity and reduced quality of life.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted involving 367 patients diagnosed with lower limb DVT from June 2020 to June 2023. Patients were categorized into a recurrence group ( = 121) and a non-recurrence group ( = 246) based on DVT occurrence.

Platelets and neutrophils are among the most abundant cell types in peripheral blood. Beyond their traditional roles in thrombosis and haemostasis, they also play an active role in modulating immune responses. Current knowledge on the role of platelet-neutrophil interactions in the immune system has been rapidly expanding.

Background: The lacking proper regulation of International Normalized Ratio (INR) as the main problem in patients with mechanical valve replacement surgery poses the risk of thrombosis and embolism on the one hand and the risk of bleeding on the other. For this reason, the correct monitoring of INR via the Time in Therapeutic Range (TTR) is needed. The present study aimed to explore the blood coagulation monitoring of patients with mechanical heart valve in Imam Ali Hospital of Kermanshah in 2021.

Background: The recently identified swine inflammation and necrosis syndrome (SINS) affects tail, ears, teats, coronary bands, claws and heels of affected individuals. The primarily endogenous syndrome is based on vasculitis, thrombosis, and intimal proliferation, involving defence cells, interleukins, chemokines, and acute phase proteins and accompanied by alterations in clinical chemistry, metabolome, and liver transcriptome. The complexity of metabolic alterations and the influence of the boar led to hypothesize a polygenic architecture of SINS.

Background & Aim: The definition and clinical relevance of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)-related myocardial infarction (MI) has been a topic of significant debate and controversy. It has particularly garnered widespread attention recently due to a contemporary trend of including it as a component of primary end points in major trials. The study aimed to assess the clinical relevance of PCI-related MI (PMI) according to the Fourth Universal Definition of MI using a high-sensitivity troponin (hs-Tn) assay in a real-world setting.

Basilar artery perforator aneurysms (BAPAs) are rare and may be occult on initial imaging due to their small size and susceptibility to intermittent thrombosis.1 2 Conventional treatments for aneurysms (eg, clipping or coiling) have proved challenging.3 Recently, endovascular electrocoagulation has been shown to be effective for BAPAs.

A series of eight gold(I) N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes [Au(IMes)(Ln)] based on 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazole-2-ylidene (IMes) and 7-azaindole derivatives (HLn), where n = 1-8 for HL1 = 5-fluoro-7-azaindole, HL2 = 5-bromo-7-azaindole, HL3 = 3-chloro-7-azaindole, HL4 = 3-iodo-7-azaindole, HL5 = 5-bromo-3-chloro-7-azaindole, HL6 = 5-bromo-3-iodo-7-azaindole, HL7 = 4-chloro-2-methyl-7-azaindole and HL8 = 7-azaindole, was prepared, characterised and studied for their in vitro anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects. The complexes showed significant cytotoxicity on human ovarian cancer cell lines (A2780, IC ≈ 8-19 μM and A2780R, IC ≈ 8-19 μM) and lowered toxicity in normal HaCat and MRC-5 cells. Cellular effects of the selected complexes 1 and 7 were evaluated in A2780 cells using flow cytometry.

Objective: Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of hydrogel-coated coils (HGCs) to achieve the composite endpoint of decreased recanalization rates and greater safety. Herein, the authors aimed to assess the true ability of second-generation HGCs to prevent recanalization.
Methods: This randomized controlled study, the HYBRID (Hydrocoil Versus Bare Platinum Coil in Recanalization Imaging Data) trial, comparing HGCs with bare platinum coils (BPCs), was conducted in 43 Japanese institutions.

The body weight-based thrombolytic medication strategy in clinical trials shows critical defects in recanalization rate and post-thrombolysis hemorrhage. Methods for perceiving thrombi heterogeneity of thrombolysis resistance is urgently needed for precise thrombolysis. Here, we revealed the relationship between the thrombin heterogeneity and the thrombolysis resistance in thrombi and created an artificial biomarker-based nano-patrol system with robotic functional logic to perceive and report the thrombolysis resistance of thrombi.

The effect of pretransfusion hemoglobin on transfusion burden, thrombosis, and mortality in thalassemia and myelodysplastic syndrome is unclear. We aimed to study the pretransfusion hemoglobin and erythrocyte transfusion burden and investigate the effects of these variables on each other in real-life in thalassemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. Adult patients with thalassemia and myelodysplastic syndrome who received at least one erythrocyte concentrate unit outpatient at Sanliurfa Mehmet Akif Inan Training and Research Hospital during 1 year were included in the study.

Purpose: Despite significant improvements in the design and performance of continuous flow left ventricular assist devices (CFLVADs), one of the most important reasons hampering further penetration of this technology is the occurrence of adverse events, especially strokes. One of the well-known risk factors for strokes is hypertension which is particularly common in patients undergoing a CFLVAD implant. While the device is implanted in the heart, strokes happen due to pathology in the brain and we hypothesised that modelling the blood flow in the circle of Willis might shed light on the causation of strokes in this situation.

The subclavian artery's intrathoracic segment is a rare peripheral artery aneurysm site. Common causes are atherosclerosis, trauma, vasculitis, and infection. Subclavian artery aneurysms have a higher propensity for rupture, thrombosis, embolization, and compression of surrounding structures, thus necessitating urgent surgical care.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a complex and serious condition characterized by widespread activation of the coagulation cascade, resulting in both thrombosis and bleeding. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of DIC, emphasizing its clinical significance and the need for improved management strategies. We explore the primary causes of DIC, including sepsis, trauma, malignancies, and obstetric complications, which trigger an overactive coagulation response.
