Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the central facial region, significantly involving the facial blood vessels and the sebaceous gland units associated with hair follicles. The stellate ganglion block (SGB) technique can restore balance to autonomic nervous function by interrupting the impulse conduction of preganglionic and postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers, thereby alleviating excessive peripheral blood vessel contraction, enhancing tissue blood supply, balancing hormone secretion, and modulating immune responses. SGB has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in treating various skin conditions affecting the head, face, and neck.

The low expression of period circadian regulator 3 (PER3) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is closely correlated with tumor size and invasion depth. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 subunit alpha (HIF-1α) regulates epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) transcription factors, activates EMT, and promotes tumor metastasis. Here, we investigated the role and molecular mechanism of PER3 in regulating HIF-1α and metastasis in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) by using bioinformatics analyses and in vitro and in vivo experiments.

As a byproduct of shale gas extraction, flowback water (FW) is produced in large quantities globally. Due to the unique interactions between pollutants and microorganisms, FW always harbor multiple antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) that have been confirmed in our previous findings, potentially serving as a point source for ARGs released into the environment. However, whether ARGs in FW can disseminate or integrate into the environmental resistome remains unclear.

This study investigated the effects of pre-experimental fasting for 2, 7, and 14 days under both unsheltered (12 h dark-12 h light) and sheltered conditions on the critical swimming speed (U) and oxygen consumption (MO) of juvenile grass carp, using a modified swim respirometer. Key findings include (1) the U of test fish decreased significantly, by 28%, after fasting for 14 days and sheltering intensified the impact to a 43% decrease, and (2) fish anaerobic capacity decreased after 7 days but increased after 14 days, and was enhanced by sheltering conditions. These findings are important as they indicate that fasting and sheltering can impair grass carp survival and disrupt river ecosystem balance, highlighting the need for habitat conservation.

Inflammasomes represent a crucial component of the innate immune system, which respond to threats by recognizing different molecules. These are known as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) or host-derived damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). In neurodegenerative diseases and neuroinflammation, the accumulation of misfolded proteins, such as beta-amyloid and alpha-synuclein, can lead to inflammasome activation, resulting in the release of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18.

Carbonate radical (CO) is inevitably produced in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) when addressing real-world aqueous environments, yet it often goes unnoticed due to its relatively lower reactivity. In this study, we emphasized the pivotal role of CO in targeting the elimination of contaminants by contrasting it with conventional reactive oxygen species (ROSs) and assessing the removal of sulfamethazine (SMT). Similar to singlet oxygen (O), CO shows a preference for electron-rich organic compounds.

While the use of phages in the food and biomedical sectors occurs commercially, their application in the water sector is less common and is typically demonstrated at a lower technological readiness level. This is so despite the potential that phages have to enhance the control of problematic bacteria (including pathogens) and protect infrastructure within the water sector. Fulfilling the great potential of this nascent field requires more research and development.

Through the stacking technique of 2D materials, the interfacial polarization can be switched by an interlayer sliding, known as sliding ferroelectricity, which is advantageous in ultra-thin thickness, high switching speed, and high fatigue resistance. However, uncovering the relationship between the sliding path and the polarization state in rhombohedral-stacked materials remains a challenge, which is the key to 2D sliding ferroelectricity. Here, layer-dependent multidirectional sliding ferroelectricity in rhombohedral-stacked InSe (γ-InSe) is reported via dual-frequency resonance tracking piezoresponse force microscopy and conductive atomic force microscopy.
