Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) involves reversible myocardial dysfunction. The use of inotropes can restore adequate cardiac output and tissue perfusion, but conventional inotropes, such as dobutamine and adrenaline, have limited efficacy in such situations. Levosimendan is a novel inotrope that acts in a catecholamine-independent manner.

The black bream () is an economically important species widely distributed in China, with its geographic populations potentially having undergone differentiations and local adaptations. In this study, we presented a chromosome-level genome assembly of this species and investigated genetic differentiations of its populations that are allopatric (the northern one) and sympatric (the Poyang Lake) to its kin species, the blunt-snout bream (), using whole genome resequencing analysis. The results showed that the genome size of black bream was 1.

MT1JP: A Pivotal Tumor-Suppressing LncRNA and its Role in Cancer Progression and Therapeutic Potential.

Curr Drug Targets

January 2025

Hubei Key Laboratory of Tumor Microenvironment and Immunotherapy, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, 443002, China.

Metallothionein 1J pseudogene (MT1JP) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that functions as a tumor suppressor in various malignancies. Reduced MT1JP expression is associated with increased tumor proliferation, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and treatment resistance in nine cancers, such as gastric cancer, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and breast cancer. Mechanistically, MT1JP acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to regulate oncogenic microRNAs (miRNAs), including miR-92a-3p, miR-214-3p, and miR-24-3p.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary bone malignancy characterized by deposition of an immature osteoid matrix. OS treatment has proven challenging because of the high risk of metastatic progression and recurrence after chemotherapy. Melittin (MLT) is recognized as a potential antitumor candidate to overcome chemotherapy resistance and provoke superior immunostimulatory effects.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder, with amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregation playing a key role in its pathogenesis. Aβ-induced oxidative stress leads to neuronal damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, and apoptosis, making antioxidative strategies promising for AD treatment. This study investigates the effects of hydrogen-rich water (HRW) in a zebrafish AD model.

Objective: This study investigates the effects of caloric restriction (CR) on renal injury and fibrosis following ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), with a focus on the roles of the mechanistic/mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) signaling and autophagy.

Methods: A mouse model of unilateral IRI with or without CR was used. Renal function was assessed through serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels, while histological analysis and molecular assays evaluated tubular injury, fibrosis, mTORC1 signaling, and autophagy activation.

Responses of soil respiration and its temperature sensitivity to nitrogen and phosphorus depositions in a riparian zone.

J Environ Manage

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Water Environment Evolution and Pollution Control in the Three Gorges Reservoir, Chongqing Three Georges University, Chongqing, 404100, PR China.

Nitrogen and phosphorus depositions and global warming have continuously intensified, impacting soil respiration. However, the response mechanisms of soil respiration rate (R) and its temperature sensitivity (Q) to nitrogen and phosphorus depositions are still unclear, especially for riparian zones. Intact Fluvisols were collected at different water-level elevations (150, 160, 170, and 180 m) of the riparian zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir, China and incubated under 20 and 30 °C with additions of nitrogen (36 kg N ha yr), phosphorus (0.

Spatially resolved transcriptomics enable comprehensive measurement of gene expression at subcellular resolution while preserving the spatial context of the tissue microenvironment. While deep learning has shown promise in analyzing SCST datasets, most efforts have focused on sequence data and spatial localization, with limited emphasis on leveraging rich histopathological insights from staining images. We introduce GIST, a deep learning-enabled gene expression and histology integration for spatial cellular profiling.

Food-derived bioactive peptides are a class of peptides from natural protein. It may have biological effects on the human body and play a significant role in protecting human physiological health and regulating physiological metabolism, such as lowering blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, antioxidant, antibacterial, regulating immune activity, and so on. However, most of the natural food-derived functional peptides need to overcome a variety of barriers in the body to enter the blood circulation system and target to specific tissues to generate physiological activity.

Circadian clock regulates plant development and physiology by anticipating daily environmental changes. Here we studied the core clock protein involved in β-aminobutyric acid (BABA)-inducible SAR resistance to Rhizopus stolonifer in peach fruit. BABA elicitation barely primed the accumulation of jasmonate or ethylene, whose regulation was associated with morning-loop gene expression.

A novel dual fixation method for improving the reliable assessment of pulmonary vascular morphology in pulmonary hypertension rats.

Respir Res

January 2025

Department of Pathophysiology, School of Basic Medicine, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), 13 Hangkong Road, Wuhan, 430030, China.

This study introduced a novel dual fixation method for the pulmonary vasculature and lung tissue in pulmonary hypertension (PH) rats, addressing the limitations of traditional fixation methods that failed to accurately preserve the in vivo status of pulmonary vascular morphology. The modified method involved a dual fixation process, combining individualized ventilation support and vascular perfusion to simulate the respiratory motion, pulmonary artery pressure and right ventricular output of the rat under in vivo conditions. Utilizing a monocrotaline-induced PH rat model, this study compared the dual fixation with the traditional immersion fixation, focusing on the quantitative assessment of alveolar expansion degree, capillary patency, endothelial cell quantity and wall thickness of pulmonary vein and artery.
