Vitamin B (cobalamin; B) is an essential micronutrient, but deficiency is common. The prompt diagnosis and treatment of B deficiency protects against megaloblastic anaemia, neuropathy and neuropsychiatric changes. Biomarkers of B status include the measurement of serum B (also known as total B or serum cobalamin), holotranscobalamin (holoTC or 'active B12'), methylmalonic acid (MMA) and total plasma homocysteine (Hcy).

Introduction: Pediatric patients have an increased risk of radiation-induced malignancies due to their ongoing development and long remaining life span. Thus, optimization of PET protocols is an important task in pediatric nuclear medicine. Long axial field-of-view (LAFOV) PET/CT has shown a significant increase in sensitivity, which provides an ideal opportunity for reduction of injected tracer activity in the pediatric population.

Renal artery occlusion is a rare but potentially catastrophic complication of paediatric endovascular renal artery intervention. Emergency auto-transplantation may be required to salvage the kidney; to date this has only been described in adults. We report our experience of performing emergency kidney auto-transplantation following acute renal artery thrombosis in a child undergoing redo renal artery angioplasty A 20-month-old boy presented with refractory hypertension and hypertensive cardiomyopathy secondary to multifocal fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) with a single functioning kidney.

Background: Feeding intolerance is common in critically ill patients and can lead to malnutrition. Prokinetic agents may be used to enhance the uptake of nutrition. However, the evidence on the effectiveness and safety of prokinetic agents is sparse, and there is a lack of data on their use in intensive care units (ICU).

Cyclodestruction is a technique reserved for glaucomas not controlled with medical and surgical treatment and poor visual potential. During the last century, new cyclodestructive techniques were developed, including cyclophotocoagulation, and the use of continuous-wave diode laser transescleral cyclophotocoagulation (CW-TS-CPC) has become widespread. In recent decades, micropulse diode laser transescleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TS-CPC) was introduced.

Epilepsy is a common neurological condition that arises from dysfunctional neuronal circuit control due to either acquired or innate disorders. Autophagy is an essential neuronal housekeeping mechanism, which causes severe proteotoxic stress when impaired. Autophagy impairment has been associated to epileptogenesis through a variety of molecular mechanisms.

Introduction: In women with cervical incompetence, transvaginal cerclage may help prevent preterm birth. However, training for this procedure poses challenges due to the low number of cases and difficulties in visualizing the operative field. Furthermore, the objective criteria for a successful cerclage procedure are not well-described.

Background: Using a large population-based dataset, we primarily sought to compare postoperative complications, health-care expenditures, and re-intervention rates between patients diagnosed with ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) undergoing stented vs. non-stented pyeloplasty. The secondary objective was to investigate factors that influence the timing of DJ stent removal.

Sacral osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone that extends posterior to the pelvis at the base of the spine. This condition typically occurs in elderly or bedbound/immobile patients and is treated with wound debridement, wound care, surgery, and antibiotic therapy. In this report, a case is presented of a rare complication of sacral osteomyelitis where the infection extended through the bone into the spinal canal causing an ascending spinal canal infection.

Background: Cow's milk allergy (CMA) is the most complex and common food allergy in infants. Elimination of cow's milk from the diet and replacement with a specialized formula for infants with cow's milk allergy who cannot be breastfed is an established approach to minimize the risk of severe allergic reactions while avoiding nutritional deficiencies. Given the availability of multiple options, such as extensively hydrolyzed cow's milk-based formula (eHF-CM), aminoacid formula (AAF), hydrolyzed rice formula (HRF), and soy formula (SF), there is some uncertainty regarding which formula might represent the most suitable choice with respect to health outcomes.

Heart failure (HF) affects 64 million people globally with enormous societal and healthcare costs. Myocardial fibrosis, characterised by changes in collagen content drives HF. Despite evidence that collagen type III (COL3) content changes during myocardial fibrosis, in vivo imaging of COL3 has not been achieved.
