Herein, we present a thoracic empyema due to bacterial translocation in a patient, after she underwent appendicectomy for nonperforated acute appendicitis. Postoperative third day, thoracic empyema was revealed clinically and radiologically.

Evaluation of spontaneous third ventriculostomy by three-dimensional sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts using different flip-angle evolutions (3D-SPACE) sequence by 3T MR imaging: preliminary results with variant flip-angle mode.

Purpose: This prospective study aimed to evaluate the use of three-dimensional sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts using different flip-angle evolutions (3D-SPACE) in the diagnosis of spontaneous third ventriculostomy (STV) and to compare it with phase-contrast cine magnetic resonance imaging (PC-MRI).

Methods: PC-MRI and 3D-SPACE images were obtained in 15 patients with hydrocephalus for evaluation of STV as well as in 10 control cases. The presence of STV was evaluated visually by two experienced radiologists on both PC-MRI and 3D-SPACE images, and the results were statistically compared.

In this study, 24 healthy Sprague-Dawley type rats of age 3-4 months and 250-300 g weight were used.

Background: Soft-tissue defects in the knee region are usually complex and require adequate reconstruction with flaps. The aim of this article is to present the authors' experience using the reverse-flow anterolateral thigh perforator flap for the reconstruction of a variety of soft-tissue defects around the knee including the upper third of the leg.

Methods: A total of 17 reverse-flow anterolateral thigh perforator flaps were used for reconstruction of soft-tissue defects around the knee and the upper third of the leg between December 2006 and December 2010.

Background: Hepatitis B leads to chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular cancer. Viral markers and other laboratory tests used in diagnosis and follow-up of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) do not correlate well with disease activity and liver histopathology. In this study, the survival of patients with T4b tumor and patients whose tumor had only microscopic skin involvement without clinical T4b signs were compared. The file records of 101 patients with T4b tumor (group A) and 79 patients whose tumor had only microscopic skin involvement (group B) were reviewed.

Purpose: To assess the course of macular thickness change in relation to visual acuity improvement, in patients being operated for idiopathic epimacular membrane by 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy.

Materials And Methods: The clinical charts of 21 eyes of 19 consecutive patients (9 male and 10 female) were assessed retrospectively. Postoperatively, patients were followed up by best-corrected Snellen visual acuity (BCVA), a thorough ophthalmological examination, including fundoscopy, retinal thickness, and macular morphology as demonstrated by optical coherence tomography.

Transperitoneal laparoendoscopic single-site pyeloplasty: initial experiences.

Recurrent interdigital pilonidal sinus treated with dorsal metacarpal artery perforator flap.

A 39-year-old otherwise healthy barber presented to our clinic complaining of frequent periods of swelling and purulent discharge in his second and third right web spaces. An excision was performed after administration of methylene blue to visualize the extent of both cysts located in his second and third web spaces. A distally based dorsal metacarpal artery perforator flap was chosen to close the defect on his second web space.
