Surgical access to the third ventricle can be achieved through various corridors depending on the location and extent of the lesion; however, traditional transcranial approaches risk damage to multiple critical neural structures. Endonasal approach similar to corridor of the reverse third ventriculostomy (ERTV) was surgically simulated in eight cadaveric heads. Fiber dissections were additionally performed within the third ventricle along the endoscopic route.

Background: Since its outbreak in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has diverted resources from non-urgent and elective procedures, leading to diagnosis and treatment delays, with an increased number of neoplasms at advanced stages worldwide. The aims of this study were to quantify the reduction in surgical activity for indeterminate thyroid nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic; and to evaluate whether delays in surgery led to an increased occurrence of aggressive tumours.
Methods: In this retrospective, international, cross-sectional study, centres were invited to participate in June 22, 2022; each centre joining the study was asked to provide data from medical records on all surgical thyroidectomies consecutively performed from Jan 1, 2019, to Dec 31, 2021.

Objective: To investigate the role of intrapartum ultrasound (IU) in the diagnosis of asynclitism and the importance of asynclitism degree in labor outcomes.
Method: This prospective cohort study included 41 low-risk pregnant women with fetus in singleton-vertex. The IU assessment to diagnose asynclitism was performed during labor at two specific steps, including the suspicion and/or diagnosis of labor arrest.

This study aimed to compare the accuracy and reliability of Alvarado Score (AS) and Appendicitis Inflammatory Response Score (AIRS) in pregnant women undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis (AA). The files of 53 pregnant women with a diagnosis of AA who underwent surgery in our clinic between February 2014 and December 2018 were examined retrospectively. The patients were divided into 3 groups as follows: first trimester between 0 and 14 weeks, second trimester between 15 and 28 weeks, and third trimester between 29 and 42 weeks.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze a clinical series of odontoid fractures treated with true percutaneous anterior odontoid screws. The technique we used is different from the traditional approach of using blunt dissection to arrive at the anterior surface of the vertebral body.
Methods: Between 2004 and 2021, forty-two patients underwent anterior screw fixation of the odontoid process using the true percutaneous technique without dissection among the fascial planes.

Background: Caesarean skin scars (CSS; hypertrophic scars and keloids) are very stressful for women and treatment strategies vary. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the outcome of surgical excision of CSS during caesarean section (CS). The study aims to determine the rate of recurrence and risk factors of recurrence for surgically removed CSS.

Background: Surgical access to the ventral pontomedullary junction (PMJ) can be achieved through various corridors depending on the location and extension of the lesion. The jugular tubercle (JT), a surgically challenging obstacle to access the PMJ, typically needs to be addressed in transcranial exposures. We describe the endoscopic endonasal transclival approach (EETCA) and its inferolateral transtubercular extension to assess the intradural surgical field gained through JT removal.

Background Recurrent lumbar disc herniation (RLDH) is one of the most common causes of chronic low back and leg pain. Although surgical treatment has high success rates in primary lumbar disc herniations, recurrence is not an uncommon clinic condition after the surgery. Considering the recurrent surgeries have lower success rates and higher risks, such as dural tear and nerve injury, alternative treatment modalities are needed for RLDH patients.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the success rate of repeat endoscopic third ventriculostomy (redo-ETV) according to pattern of ventriculostoma closure based on observations in 97 paediatric redo-ETV patients.
Methods: Clinical data and intraoperative video recordings of 97 paediatric hydrocephalus patients who underwent redo-ETV due to ventriculostoma closure at two institutions were retrospectively analysed. We excluded patients with a history of intraventricular haemorrhage, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) infection or CSF shunt surgery and those with incompletely penetrated membranes during the initial ETV.

Background: Different perspectives exist regarding the clinicopathologic characteristics, biology and management of gallbladder polyps. Size is often used as the surrogate evidence of polyp behavior and size of ≥1cm is widely used as cholecystectomy indication. Most studies on this issue are based on the pathologic correlation of polyps clinically selected for resection, whereas, the data regarding the nature of polypoid lesions from pathology perspective -regardless of the cholecystectomy indication- is highly limited.

In this prospective randomised placebo-controlled study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of New Cross linked Hyaluronan Gel (NCH gel) on the quality of life of patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery due to Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis (DIE). The intervention group received 40 mL of NCH gel, and the control group had a 40 mL sterile saline solution instilled into the peritoneal cavity following standard laparoscopic procedures. The patients were called in the third and sixth postoperative months and requested to fill the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Endometriosis Health Profile (EHP-5), and Short Form for Mental and Physical Health (SF-12) questionnaires.

Classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is considered a curable disease; however, in approximately one-third of the responding patients, the disease relapses following completion of therapy. One of the drugs that have been approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory cHL is nivolumab, an immune check point inhibitor that shows its effects by blocking the programmed death 1 (PD-1) receptor. In this study, we present a retrospective "real-life" analysis of the usage of nivolumab in patients with relapsed/refractory cHL that have joined the named patient program (NPP) for nivolumab, reflecting 4 years of experience in the treatment of relapsed/refractory cHL.

Background: The need for a better understanding of the subthalamic nucleus (STN)'s vascular anatomy is still evident because revealing its vascular supply may increase insight in the pathogenesis of related disorders, such as STN ischemia. The mechanisms under motor, behavioral, and cognitive changes following deep brain stimulation treatment may also be explained by its pattern of vascularization. The primary goal of this study was to delineate the vascularization of the STN and highlight the predominant perforating arteries supplying its territory.
