The incidence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) among older people has been significantly increased. Understanding the epidemiological characteristics, the causes of injury and the outcomes of TBI among older people provides value evidence for designing preventative measures and therapeutic interventions for TBI. In this study, using ICD-9-CM codes in the Chinese Trauma Database, we identified inpatients aged 65years and older diagnosed with TBI between 2001 and 2007 in Chinese military hospitals.

Background: Icotinib is a small molecule targeting epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase, which shows non-inferior efficacy and better safety comparing to gefitinib in previous phase III trial. The present study was designed to further evaluate the efficacy and safety of icotinib in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) previously treated with platinum-based chemotherapy.

Methods: Patients with NSCLC progressing after one or two lines of chemotherapy were enrolled to receive oral icotinib (125 mg tablet, three times per day).

Experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) is an autoantigen-specific T-cell-mediated disease model for human demyelinating inflammatory disease of the peripheral nervous system. Erythropoietin (EPO) has been known to promote EAN recovery but its haematopoiesis stimulating effects may limit its clinic application. Here we investigated the effects and potential mechanisms of an EPO-derived nonerythropoietic peptide, ARA 290, in EAN.

A method for the simultaneous and economical determination of many trace elements in human milk is developed. Two multi-element hollow cathode lamps (HCLs) were used instead of single-element HCLs to improve the sample throughput of flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS). The microwave digestion of milk is optimized prior to detection, and the performance characteristics of the improved analysis method are identified.

Objective: To observe the evolution and differentiation of hepatic oval cells after transplanted into the spleens of homogenous rats, providing experimental data for treating hepatic failure with hepatic stem cells.

Methods: A two-step perfusion procedure was used to separate hepatic parenchymal cells from nonparenchymal cells. Then the suspension of nonparenchymal cells was centrifuged in Percoll gradients.
