Previous studies have reported that mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNA-CN) of blood was associated with a series of aging-related diseases. However, it remains unknown whether mtDNA-CN can be a potential biomarker of acute aortic syndromes (AASs). The mtDNA-CN in blood of 190 male patients with AAS and 207 healthy controls were detected by standardized real-time quantitative PCR-based assay.

Guangxi Engineering Center in Biomedical Material for Tissue and Organ Regeneration, Collaborative Innovation Centre of Regenerative Medicine and Medical BioResource Development and Application Co-constructed By the Province and Ministry, Guangxi Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, Nanning, Guangxi 530021, China.

Injury caused by excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) may lead to susceptibility to bacterial infection and sustained inflammatory response, which are the major factors impeding diabetic wound healing. By utilizing optimal anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial biomaterials for multifunctional wound dressings is critical in clinical applications. In this study, a novel electrospun PLGA/MoS@Pd nanofiber membrane was synthesized by encapsulating antioxidant and near-infrared (NIR) responsive MOS@Pd nanozymes in PLGA nanofibers to form a multifunctional dressing for diabetic wound repair.

The Cox-Maze IV (CMIV) procedure is the mainstay in surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), but the rate of AF recurrence after the CMIV procedure in patients with persistent AF is difficult to accurately evaluate. In this study, we aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model of AF recurrence within 1 year after undergoing the Cox-Maze IV procedure. We retrospectively enrolled 303 consecutive patients who underwent the Cox-Maze IV procedure for persistent AF concomitant with other cardiac procedures at our institute between 2019 and 2021.

Remodeling the Proinflammatory Microenvironment in Osteoarthritis through Interleukin-1 Beta Tailored Exosome Cargo for Inflammatory Regulation and Cartilage Regeneration.

ACS Nano

January 2025

National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials, College of Biomedical Engineering, Sichuan University, 29 Wangjiang Road, Chengdu 610064, P. R. China.

Osteoarthritis (OA) presents a significant therapeutic challenge, with few options for preserving joint cartilage and repairing associated tissue damage. Inflammation is a pivotal factor in OA-induced cartilage deterioration and synovial inflammation. Recently, exosomes derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HucMSCs) have gained recognition as a promising noncellular therapeutic modality, but their use is hindered by the challenge of harvesting a sufficient number of exosomes with effective therapeutic efficacy.

Department of Environmental Health, College of Preventive Medicine, Third Military Medical University (Army Medical University), Chongqing, 400038, China; Institute of Toxicology, College of Preventive Medicine, Third Military Medical University (Army Medical University), Chongqing, 400038, China. Electronic address:

Bisphenol F (BPF) has become a new risk factor for male semen quality, but its specific mechanism is still unclear. Therefore, this study explored the potential mechanism of BPF affecting male semen quality from the perspective of ferroptosis and m6A RNA methylation. In vivo experiments showed that BPF destroyed the structure of seminiferous tubules, reduced the layers of spermatogenic cells, and reduced semen quality in mice.

The effect of physical cues on platelet storage lesion.

Hematology

December 2025

Department of Blood Transfusion, First Affiliated Hospital, Third Military Medical University (Army Medical University), Chongqing, People's Republic of China.

Background: Platelet concentrates play an important role in clinical treatment such as platelet function disorders and thrombocytopenia. In the process of preparation and storage of platelets, centrifugation, leukofiltration, and agitation will cause morphological changes and impaired function of platelets, which is associated with the increase of platelet transfusion refractoriness, and named as platelet storage lesion (PSL).

Method: This paper proposes three major operations (centrifugation, agitation, and leukofiltration) that platelets experience during the preparation and storage process, to explore the effect of physical cues on PSL.

Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a substance that stimulates the proliferation of hepatocytes which promote healing. We developed a macrophage membrane-encapsulated nanosphere drug delivery system containing HGF for the study of burn wound healing. Twenty-seven Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: a saline control (NS) group, an engineered macrophage membrane-encapsulated nanospheres (ETMM@NPS) group, and an engineered macrophage membrane-encapsulated nanospheres treatment with HGF-loaded gene (HGF@ETMM@NPS) group.

State Key Laboratory of Trauma, Burn, and Combined Injury, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Precision Neuromedicine and Neuroregenaration, Department of Neurosurgery, Southwest Hospital, Third Military Medical University (Army Medical University), Chongqing, China.

Background: Delirium is a severe neuropsychiatric symptom following acute ischemic stroke (IS) and is associated with poor outcomes. Systemic inflammation and immune dysregulation are believed to contribute to the pathophysiology of delirium. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) are widely recognized as convenient and reliable biomarkers of systemic inflammation.

Division of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Department of Orthopedics, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Bone and Cartilage Regenerative Medicine, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, No. 1838 North of Guangzhou Avenue, Guangzhou, 510515, Guangdong Province, China.

The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a readily accessible surrogate biomarker for insulin resistance and metabolic health, has been extensively investigated across various ethnic populations. The critical role of physical activity (PA) in enhancing insulin sensitivity has been corroborated by numerous studies. Nonetheless, the relationship between different patterns of PA and the TyG index remains ambiguous.
