Nocardia is an anthropozoonotic bacteria that occurs widely in the natural environment. However, because it is a gram-positive aerobic opportunistic pathogen, it rarely occurs in patients with no prior history of immune function disease. Since the symptoms are nonspecific the diagnosis of Nocardia pneumonia is challenging.

Background: Direct carotid cavernous fistulas (CCFs) are typically the result of a severe traumatic brain injury. High-flow arteriovenous shunts secondary to rupture of an intracavernous aneurysm, resulting in direct CCFs, are rare. The use of a pipeline embolization device in conjunction with coils and Onyx glue for treatment of direct high-flow CCF resulting from ruptured cavernous carotid artery aneurysm in a clinical setting is not well documented.

Increased methylation of key genes has been observed in kidney diseases, suggesting that the ten-eleven translocation (Tet) methyl-cytosine dioxygenase family as well as 5mC oxidation may play important roles. As a member of the Tet family, the role of Tet1 in acute kidney injury (AKI) remains unclear. knockout mice, with or without tempol treatment, a scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS), were challenged with ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury or unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) injury.

Quantum Dots (QDs) modified with branched Polyethylene Glycol-amine (6- or 8-arm PEG-amine) coupled with methoxy PEG (mPEG) hold great promise for biomedical applications due to a long half-life in blood and negligible toxicity. However, the potential risks regarding their concomitant prolonged co-incubation with cardiovascular and blood cells remains inconclusive. In the present study, the feasible, effective and convenient proliferating-restricted cell line models representing the circulatory system were established to investigate the cellular internalization followed by intracellular outcomes and resulting acute/sub-acute cytotoxicity of the 6-arm PEG-amine/mPEG QDs.

Early brain injury (EBI) subsequent to subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is strongly associated with delayed cerebral ischemia and poor patient prognosis. Based on investigations into the molecular mechanisms underlying EBI, neurovascular dysfunction resulting from SAH can be attributed to a range of pathological processes, such as microvascular alterations in brain tissue, ionic imbalances, blood-brain barrier disruption, immune-inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, and activation of cell death pathways. Research progress presents a variety of promising therapeutic approaches for the preservation of neurological function following SAH, including calcium channel antagonists, endothelin-1 receptor blockers, antiplatelet agents, anti-inflammatory agents, and anti-oxidative stress agents.

Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are highly prevalent in the population, and their rupture poses a significant risk of death or disability. However, the treatment of aneurysms, whether through interventional embolization or craniotomy clipping surgery, is not always safe and carries a certain proportion of morbidity and mortality. Therefore, early detection and prompt intervention of IAs with a high risk of rupture is of notable clinical significance.

Protein misfolding diseases (PMDs) in humans are characterized by the deposition of protein aggregates in tissues, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, type 2 diabetes, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Misfolding and aggregation of amyloidogenic proteins play a central role in the onset and progression of PMDs, and these processes are regulated by multiple factors, especially the interaction between proteins and bio-membranes. Bio-membranes induce conformational changes in amyloidogenic proteins and affect their aggregation; on the other hand, the aggregates of amyloidogenic proteins may cause membrane damage or dysfunction leading to cytotoxicity.
