Aim: We aimed to systematically assess whether the level of body roundness index (BRI) is associated with the risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD) in US adults.
Methods: The studied data was extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 1999 to 2018. A total of 29,062 participants aged ≥20 years with complete information about BRI and CKD were included in this study.

Background: Substantial evidence suggests an association between obesity and sleep. However, research investigating sleep patterns in relation to novel anthropometric indices is limited. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2014 to examine the relationship between the body roundness index (BRI) and unhealthy sleep patterns.

Background: The co-occurrence of PD-L1 positivity and EGFR mutations in advanced NSCLC often limits EGFR-TKIs effectiveness, with unclear mechanisms.
Methods: We analyzed 103 treatment-naive EGFR-mutant LUAD patients from three centers, assessing PD-L1 expression and performing NGS analysis.
Results: SMO mutations and MET amplification were significantly higher in the PD-L1 ≥ 1% group versus PD-L1 < 1% group (SMO: 8% vs.

This research aims to explore the diagnostic value of computed tomography (CT) indicators in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a plateau of China, and to find out the correlation between CT indexes and lung function and symptoms. This study screened out 53 stable COPD patients and 53 healthy people through inclusion and exclusion criteria in Hongyuan county, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, between July 2020 and December 2020, and then collected their baseline data, conducted lung function tests and chest CT scans, and collected COPD Assessment Test (CAT), modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale (mMRC) scores. The CT indexes of the 2 groups were compared, binary logistic regression was used to analyze the influence of COPD, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic value of the CT indexes for COPD.

Circadian rhythm disruptions have been implicated in numerous health issues, including cognitive decline and the exacerbation of neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer disease (AD). Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), vital for neuronal plasticity and cognitive function, is regulated by the circadian clock and exerts protective effects against AD. Thus, we investigated the impact of circadian rhythm disorders (CRDs) on cognitive impairment and explored the underlying neurobiological mechanisms by assessing BDNF and amyloid-β (Aβ) levels.

Background: Previous studies indicate that vitamin C may decrease the occurrence and intensity of migraines, but the evidence is restricted due to small sample sizes. This study aimed to determine the magnitude of the association between dietary vitamin C intake and migraine in the general population.
Methods: This cross-sectional study utilised data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 1999 and 2004.

Background: This study aims to assess the causal relationship between immune cell characteristics and malignant tumors of bone and articular cartilage, focusing on the mediating role of metabolites. Using Mendelian randomization, we evaluated these relationships based on genetic variations to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
Methods: A two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis was conducted using GWAS data for immune cell features and 1,400 metabolites to investigate direct and mediating effects.

Background: The performance of artificial intelligence (AI) in the prediction of lymph node (LN) metastasis in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has not been quantitatively evaluated. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of published data on the diagnostic performance of CT and MRI based on AI algorithms for predicting LN metastases in patients with OSCC.
Methods: We searched the Embase, PubMed (Medline), Web of Science, and Cochrane databases for studies on the use of AI in predicting LN metastasis in OSCC.

Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that significantly impacts the lives of affected individuals and with increasing mortality rates. Early detection and intervention are crucial for improving outcomes but the lack of validated biomarkers poses great challenges in such efforts. The use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in schizophrenia enables the investigation of the disorder's etiological and neuropathological substrates in vivo.

Our current study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of circVIRMA in cervical cancer (CC) progression. CircVIRMA, microRNA-452-5p (miR-452-5p) and CREB3 regulatory factor (CREBRF) mRNA levels were examined in CC via quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The protein level of CREBRF in CC was checked by Western blot.

Research on individuals with a younger onset age of schizophrenia is important for identifying neurobiological processes derived from the interaction of genes and the environment that lead to the manifestation of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia has long been recognized as a disorder of dysconnectivity, but it is largely unknown how brain connectivity changes are associated with psychotic symptoms. Twenty-one adolescent-onset schizophrenia (AOS) patients and 21 matched healthy controls (HCs) were recruited and underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Two levels of nucleic acids-based isothermal amplification normally require a long reaction time due to the low concentration of catalyst, which limits its practical application. A sensitive fluorescence assay of chloramphenicol (CAP) was developed coupled with two-level isothermal amplification using a self-powered catalyzed hairpin assembly (CHA) and entropy-driven circuit (EDC). CAP can bind with its aptamer to open its closed structure.

Background: Maternal parenting self-efficacy plays a critical role in facilitating positive parenting practices and successful adaption to motherhood. The Perceived Maternal Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale (PMPS-E), as a task-specific measure, confirms its psychometric properties in cultural contexts. Compared with other tools, the advantages of the PMPS-E are as follows: (i) specific context or time period during the lifespan of a child, (ii) explicitly assess parenting self-efficacy across a diverse enough range of parenting tasks or activities during the perinatal/postnatal period and (iii) having robust psychometric properties.

Cervical squamous cell carcinoma and endocervical adenocarcinoma (CESC) is a common gynecologic tumor and patients with advanced and recurrent disease usually have a poor clinical outcome. Angiogenesis is involved in the biological processes of tumors and can promote tumor growth and invasion. In this paper, we created a signature for predicting prognosis based on angiogenesis-related lncRNAs (ARLs).

Schizophrenia has been considered to exhibit sex-related clinical differences that might be associated with distinctly abnormal brain asymmetries between sexes. One hundred and thirty-two antipsychotic-naïve first-episode patients with schizophrenia and 150 healthy participants were recruited in this study to investigate whether cortical asymmetry would exhibit sex-related abnormalities in schizophrenia. After a 1-yr follow-up, patients were rescanned to obtain the effect of antipsychotic treatment on cortical asymmetry.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a globally prevalent respiratory disease, and programmed cell death plays a pivotal role in the development of COPD. Disulfidptosis is a newly discovered type of cell death that may be associated with the progression of COPD. However, the expression and role of disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) in COPD remain unclear.
