Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is an autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system whose pathogenesis involves interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-17A. We examined the correlations between CSF concentrations of the acute-phase protein pentraxin 3 (PTX3), the chronic inflammatory mediator CD40L, IL-6, and IL-17A in anti-NMDAR encephalitis, and the impact on clinical outcome. PTX3, CD40L, IL-6, and IL-17A were significantly higher in the CSF of patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis than in controls.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of the oral-appliance combined with tadalafil in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) induced by severe obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).

Methods: We equally randomized 90 patients with severe OSAHS-induced ED to groups A, B, and C to be treated with the oral-appliance, tadalafil (10 mg daily qd), and oral-appliance plus tadalafil, respectively, all for 3 months. Then we compared the therapeutic effects among the three groups of patients using the IIEF-5 questionnaire, Sexual Encounter Profile (SEP) diaries, and the intercourse satisfaction rate of the patients' partners.

Background: Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and collagen type I are known to play a critical role in the process of bone remodeling. However, the relationship between mechanical strain and the expression of BMP-2, ALP, and COL-I in osteoblasts was still unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different magnitudes of mechanical strain on osteoblast morphology and on the expression of BMP-2, ALP, and COL-I.

Background: Bladder recurrent disease is still a challenge in the treatment of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). This controlled study aims to investigate the efficacy of early clipping of the distal ureter prior to nephroureterectomy (NU) to prevent bladder recurrence after UTUC.

Methods: Patients with clinical diagnosis of UTUC were subjected to open trans-peritoneal NU and were randomly divided into two groups.

Background: After the onset of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLS) which are specialized types of fibroblasts, become tumor-like, keeping their ability to increase proliferation and invasion. The mechanism of their tumor-like growth is unclear. Fractalkine (FKN), also called CX3CL1, plays an important role in the proliferation of cells.

Objective: To investigate changes of T lymphocytes subsets in children with infectious mononucleosis (IM) and the effects of different interventions.

Methods: Forty-eight children with IM were enrolled, 28 cases were assigned to the group treated with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) 400 mg/(kg x d) for 5 continuous days or IVIG 1 g/(kg x d) for 2 continuous days, the remaining 20 cases were treated with ganciclovir (GCV) 5-10 mg/(kg x d) for 5 consecutive days. All these children were given general supportive therapies.

Background: Airway remodeling is the specific pathological characteristics of asthma, which is related to the clinical symptoms, pulmonary function, and airway hyperreactivity. This study aimed at exploring the effects of dermatophagoides pteronyssinus allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT) on the serum interleukin (IL)-13 and pulmonary functions in asthmatic children.

Methods: Fifty-eight pediatric asthma patients allergic to dust mite participated in this study.
