A rare phenomenon involving ventricular separation: a case report.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

December 2024

Department of Electrocardiology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, No.108 WansongRoad, Wenzhou, 325200, People's Republic of China.

Background: Ventricular separation is a multipart, extensive disease of the heart that hinders the electrical conduction of the cardiac system ventricular muscle, causing a bidirectional conduction block. The occurrence of ventricular separation suggests that the myocardium is in a state of severe ischemia, and the prognosis is generally poor. Herein, we present arescue case in which the extremely rare phenomenon of ventricular separation developed and was documented in realtime.

Tensile stress induced osteogenesis of periodontal ligament cells via Piezo1 mediated TAZ-Cbfα1 signaling.

Arch Oral Biol

November 2024

Department of Orthodontics, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Objective: Cyclic tensile stress (CTS) is known to induce osteogenesis of periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs), in which the molecular mechanism remains to be elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the role of the mechanosensitive calcium channel Piezo1 in the osteogenesis of PDLCs under tensile strain, as well as the signal regulation of the TAZ-Cbfα1 pathway in this process.

Design: PDLCs were isolated from periodontal ligament tissues and subjected to CTS.

Background: Sepsis is defined as a dysregulated host response to infection that results in life-threatening organ dysfunction. The 24-hour urine volume plays a crucial role in assessing the prognosis of septic patients. This study aims to investigate the relationship between 24-hour urine volume and 28-day intensive care unit (ICU) mortality in septic patients and exploring the dose-response relationship between these variables.

Unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) play a crucial physiological role in human body. However, the concentration-related changes and prognostic significance of UFAs in epilepsyremain unclear. An optimized ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) approach was developed to measure six key UFAs: oleic acid (OA), linoleic acid (LA), arachidonic acid (AA), α-linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Objective: About 2 billion people have caries in permanent teeth, and 514 million children have caries in primary teeth worldwide. Regional disparities in caries prevalence are evident in various areas of China. A comprehensive understanding of the status of dental caries and its associated risk factors is essential for developing effective dental health policies in economically disadvantaged regions.

Article Synopsis
  • Sepsis is a severe condition caused by an uncontrolled immune response to infections, and finding the genetic factors involved is crucial for better treatments.
  • Research used a combination of advanced methods and data to discover genes related to sepsis, identifying two risk genes and five protective genes, with a focus on the gene BEND7.
  • BEND7, found mainly in platelets, influences immune interactions, suggesting that targeting BEND7-positive platelets could lead to new ways to treat sepsis.

Longitudinal decline in DAT binding in Parkinson's disease: connections with sleep disturbances.

BMC Med

November 2024

Department of Neurology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou , Zhejiang, 310009, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how the dysfunction of the nigrostriatal dopamine system affects sleep disturbances in newly diagnosed Parkinson's disease patients, focusing on excessive daytime sleepiness and probable RBD.
  • Data was collected from 621 patients over four years through established sleep scales and dopamine transporter imaging.
  • Results showed a negative correlation between dopamine transporter binding ratios and sleep issues, suggesting that dopamine dysfunction and genetic factors (like the alpha-synuclein gene) significantly contribute to sleep disturbances in these patients.
