Purpose: To investigate the long-term outcome and prognostic factors of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation (LT).
Methods: From 2004 to 2014, 15 patients with 23 hepatic recurrent HCCs after LT underwent ultrasound-guided percutaneous RFA. There were 14 males and 1 female aged 54.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of using 3D printing and computer-assisted surgical simulation in preoperative planning for acetabular fractures.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed in 53 patients with pelvic fracture, who underwent surgical treatment between September, 2013 and December, 2015 with complete follow-up data. Among them, 19 patients were treated with CT three-dimensional reconstruction, computer-assisted virtual reset internal fixation, 3D model printing, and personalized surgery simulation before surgery (3D group), and 34 patients underwent routine preoperative examination (conventional group).

The positive effect of low-magnitude, high‑frequency (LMHF) vibration on implant osseointegration has been demonstrated; however, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain unknown. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of LMHF vibration on the adhesion and the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) cultured on hydroxyapatite (HA)-coated surfaces in an in vitro model as well as to elucidate the molecular mechanism responsible for the effects of LMHF vibration on osteogenesis. LMHF vibration resulted in the increased expression of fibronectin, which was measured by immunostaining and RT-qPCR.

NIR laser-induced photothermal therapy (PTT) through near-infrared agents has demonstrated the great potential in solid tumor ablation. However, the nonuniform heat distribution over tumors from PTT makes it insufficient to kill all tumor cells, resulting in tumor recurrence and inferior outcomes. To improve the tumor treatment efficacy, it is highly desirable to develop the combinational treatment of PTT with other modalities, especially with chemotherapeutic agents.

The mechanisms underlying immunomodulatory ability of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) remain unknown. Recently, studies suggested that the immunomodulatory activity of MSCs is largely mediated by paracrine factors. Among which, exosome is considered to play a major role in the communication between MSCs and target tissue.

The goal for this study was to investigate if proton MRS (1H-MRS) and out-of-phase and in-phase MRI can quantify the fat deposition in bone marrow within the lumbar vertebra that can be used to distinguish well between osteoporosis patients and healthy control subjects. Sixty-eight subjects participated in this study. The diagnostic results from dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry served as the gold standard, which was able to separate the subjects into osteoporosis (38 subjects) and non-osteoporosis group (30 subjects).

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of 3D printing-assisted minimal invasive surgery on pelvic fracture by plate internal fixation through a small incision lateral to the rectus abdominis.
Methods: This retrospective study was conducted among 50 patients with pelvic fracture undergoing anteromedial plate internal fixation between September, 2013 and June, 2015. Thin-layer computed tomography scan data of the patients were input into Mimics software in DICOM format for 3D editing and virtual surgery before the operation.

Multifunctional near-infrared (NIR) nanoparticles demonstrate great potential in tumor theranostic applications. To achieve the sensitive detection and effective phototherapy in the early stage of tumor genesis, it is highly desirable to improve the targeting of NIR theranostic agents to biomarkers and to enhance their accumulation in tumor. Here we report a novel targeted multifunctional theranostic nanoparticle, internalized RGD (iRGD)-modified indocyanine green (ICG) liposomes (iRGD-ICG-LPs), for molecular imaging-guided photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) therapy against breast tumor.

We improved the geometrical modeling procedure for fast and accurate reconstruction of orthopedic structures. This procedure consists of medical image segmentation, three-dimensional geometrical reconstruction, and assignment of material properties. The patient-specific orthopedic structures reconstructed by this improved procedure can be used in the virtual surgical planning, 3D printing of real orthopedic structures and finite element analysis.
