Objective: To explore the molecular mechanism of sevoflurane-induced neurotoxicity and to determine whether lncRNA HOXA11-AS affects sevoflurane-induced neuronal apoptosis and inflammation by regulating miR-98-5p/EphA4.

Methods: Morris water maze (MWM) test was used to detect the learning and memory ability of rats, HE staining was used to observe hippocampal pathology, TUNEL staining was used to detect the level of neuronal apoptosis, and RT-qPCR was used to detect the expression of HOXA11-AS, miR-98-5p, IL-6, IL-1, and TNF-. At the same time, the contents of IL-6, IL-1, and TNF- in serum were detected by ELISA.

Demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) are chronic inflammatory autoimmune diseases and involve demyelination and axonal degeneration. Microglia rapidly respond to changes in the environment by altering morphotype and function during the progressive disease stage. Although substantial progress has been made in the drug development for MS, treatment of the progressive forms of the disease remains unsatisfactory.

Objective: To compare neoadjuvant chemotherapy (nCT) with CAPOX alone versus neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) with capecitabine in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) with uninvolved mesorectal fascia (MRF).

Background Data: nCRT is associated with higher surgical complications, worse long-term functional outcomes, and questionable survival benefits. Comparatively, nCT alone seems a promising alternative treatment in lower-risk LARC patients with uninvolved MRF.

Cancer Med

March 2023

VIP Region, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangzhou, P. R. China.

Background: Although the use of regorafenib plus nivolumab demonstrates promising outcomes in patients with refractory microsatellite stable (MSS) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), this effect has not been substantiated in other studies. Moreover, a comparison between the outcomes of regorafenib and programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) antibody combination therapy and regorafenib monotherapy remains unexplored. In this study, we aimed to assess whether regorafenib and PD-1 antibody combination therapy is superior to regorafenib monotherapy as a third-line treatment for MSS mCRC.

() is a Gram-positive pathogenic bacterium, which persistently colonizes the anterior nares of approximately 20-30% of the healthy adult population, and up to 60% is intermittently colonized. With the misuse and overuse of antibiotics, large-scale drug-resistant bacteria, including methicillin-resistant (MRSA), have been appeared. MRSA is among the most prevalent pathogens causing community-associated infections.

Biofilms possibly harbor occult SARS-CoV-2 may explain lung cavity, re-positive and long-term positive results.

Front Cell Infect Microbiol

October 2022

Department of Thoracic Surgery I, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University (Yunnan Cancer Hospital, Yunnan Cancer Center), Kunming, China.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been an increasing number of COVID-19 patients with cavitary or cystic lung lesions, re-positive or long-term positive nucleic acid tests, but the mechanism is still unclear. Lung cavities may appear at long time interval from initial onset of coronavirus infection, generally during the absorption phase of the disease. The main histopathological characteristic is diffuse alveolar damage and may have more severe symptoms after initial recovery from COVID-19 and an increased mortality rate.

Background: Precision medicine highlights the importance of incorporating molecular genetic testing into standard clinical care. Next-generation sequencing can detect cancer-specific gene mutations, and molecular-targeted drugs can be designed to be effective for one or more specific gene mutations. For patients with special site metastases, it is particularly important to use appropriate samples for genetic profiling.

Department of Radiation Oncology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University (Yunnan Cancer Hospital, Yunnan Cancer Center), Kunming, 650118, Yunnan, China.

Purpose: Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) has become a standard approach for the treatment of patients with few metastatic brain lesions. However, the optimal treatment approach for the use radiotherapy in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with brain metastases (BMs) remain unclear. This study aimed to compare the survival outcomes and intracranial local control in NSCLC patients with 1-4 BMs who are treated with SRS using linear accelerators (LINAC-SRS), whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT), or WBRT plus radiotherapy boost (WBRT + RTB).
