Background: The TGF-β/SMAD signaling pathway is crucial in the pathogenesis of asthma. However, SMAD family member 4 (SMAD4), a key mediator of TGF-β, its roles and underlying mechanisms in asthma remain unclear.

Methods: The in vivo and in vitro roles of SMAD4 in asthma were investigated through an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced mouse model and an interleukin-13 (IL-13)-induced cell model.

Background: Stroke is a serious health issue that affects individuals, families, and society. Particularly, the upper limb dysfunction caused by stroke significantly reduces the quality of life for patients and may lead to psychological issues. Current treatment modalities are not fully effective in helping patients regain upper limb motor function to optimal levels.

Non-contrast CT radiomics-clinical machine learning model for futile recanalization after endovascular treatment in anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke.

Objective: To establish a machine learning model based on radiomics and clinical features derived from non-contrast CT to predict futile recanalization (FR) in patients with anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke (AIS) undergoing endovascular treatment.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 174 patients who underwent endovascular treatment for acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke between January 2020 and December 2023. FR was defined as successful recanalization but poor prognosis at 90 days (modified Rankin Scale, mRS 4-6).

Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of inhaled corticosteroids (budesonide, beclomethasone, or fluticasone propionate) in preventing bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) for premature infants.

Method: Electronic databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of science, Scopus, and Cochrane library, were searched from databases inception to January 2022 for eligible randomized controlled trials. Clinical outcomes such as BPD, mortality, BPD or death, adverse events, and neurodevelopmental outcomes were assessed.

Fifteen cases of normal oral mucosal tissues (control group) were collected from oral and maxillofacial surgery at The Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Guizhou Medical University during the same period.

Objective: To explore the influences of Hiao's double-C nursing model combined with pain care on postoperative satisfaction with pain control and complications in patients with mixed hemorrhoids.

Methods: A total of 80 patients with mixed hemorrhoids admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to October 2020 were selected as the study subjects, and they were divided into a regular group (n = 43) and a combined group (n = 37) based on different nursing methods. The regular group was treated with routine nursing care, while the combined group was treated with Hiao's double-C nursing model combined with pain care.

PINK1 overexpression protects against cerebral ischemia through Parkin regulation.

Mitochondrial dynamics and function are important for cell survival regulation under stress. In this study, we report that cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury significantly reduced mitochondrial function through reduced PTEN-induced kinase 1 (PINK1) expression, ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) levels, and increased oxidative stress compared to sham rats. PINK1 overexpression mice significantly improved mitochondrial function by increased mitochondrial complex I, II, and III activities and ATP levels with concomitant decline in reactive oxygen species levels.

Combined Single-Tract of Minimally Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy and Flexible Ureteroscopy for Staghorn Calculi in Oblique Supine Lithotomy Position.

Purpose: To present our experience of combined single-percutaneous tract minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy (MPCNL) and flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy (FURL) in managing staghorn calculi (SC) in oblique supine lithotomy position and to define the safety, efficiency, and feasibility of this approach.

Patients And Methods: Eighty-seven patients with SC treated with surgery in our hospital from March 2014 to January 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. The 87 patients were divided into 2 groups according to operative type: MPCNL combined with FURL (Group 1, n = 44) and MPCNL (Group 2, n = 43).
