Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Alert Finding in an Esophageal Cancer Patient.

Emergency pathologies often accompany malignancies. We herein report a case of pulmonary abscess in a patient with esophageal cancer which was depicted during the F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) staging study. The patient's history of recent dilatation of the cancer stenosis in adjunct to the previous CT lung imaging, which was normal, made evident the diagnosis of the pulmonary abscess due to the perforation of the esophageal neoplasm.

The role of hypofractionated radiotherapy for the definitive treatment of localized prostate cancer: early results of a randomized trial.

Prostate cancer is considered to have a special biology which could affect the radiation therapy result based on the selected fractionation scheme. We present the preliminary results of a randomized trial comparing conventionally and hypofractionated radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Patients included in the study had localized prostate cancer (cT1c-T3bN0M0) and were randomly assigned to mild hypofractionated (72 Gy in 32 fractions, arm1) or conventionally fractionated (74 Gy in 37 fractions, arm2) radiation therapy treatment with Volumetric Arc Therapy technique.

Deep accidental hypothermia accompanied with cardiac arrest after alcohol and drug poisoning treated with extracorporeal life support.

Deep accidental hypothermia is an unusual clinical entity in developed countries. We report a case of a 30 year old male Caucasian patient with accidental severe hypothermia who was transferred to the emergency department of our hospital after prolonged exposure in the urban city's night environment cold as a result of alcohol and drugs abuse. The patient was found unconscious in the first early hours from onlookers.

Esophagus lyomyoma diagnosed with convex endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).

Esophageal lyomyoma are rare benign tumors of the esophagus and they remain usually undiagnosed until local compression symptoms occur in the esophagus. Nowadays we use novel diagnostic equipment for lung cancer. Bronchoscopy was the tip of the arrow for diagnosis, however; ultrasound systems have brought a revolution. We have the radial-endobronchial ultrasound for peripheral lesions and the convex probe endobronchial ultrasound for central lesions.

Lung cancer is still diagnosed at a late stage in most lung cancer patients. Regarding Non-small Cell lung cancer there are novel therapies such as; tyrosine kinase inhibitors and immunotherapy. Currently we have two immunotherapies that can be used either as first-line treatment or second line treatment; pembrolizumab and nivolumab.

A New and Safe Mode of Ventilation for Interventional Pulmonary Medicine: The Ease of Nasal Superimposed High Frequency Jet Ventilation.

We use pulmonary interventional procedures for the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases either for benign or malignant lesions. Flexible bronchoscopy with or without radial endobronchial ultrasound, convex-probe endobronchial ultrasound and electromagnetic navigation are procedures performed in centers with experience in diagnostic pulmonary medicine. The method of sedation and ventilation is very important in order to avoid or handle with success complications.
