Nanomaterial-mediated photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising strategy for permanent male sterilization owing to its easy operation, rapid heating, minimal invasiveness, and high spatiotemporal controllability. However, the currently available PTT for male sterilization utilizes irradiation sources in the first near-infrared window (NIR-I), which may suffer from incomplete sterilization due to the insufficient penetration depth of NIR-I light. Herein, we developed a facile one-pot hydrothermal synthetic method of cysteine-coated copper sulfide (Cys-CuS) nanosheets for the second NIR window (NIR-II) PTT-mediated permanent male sterilization.

In order to avoid the problems of long exposure time and high incidence of photosensitivity by intravenous injection of photosensitizer, our study explore the safety, efficacy, and possible mechanisms of photodynamic therapy (PDT) by intrathoracic administration of hematoporphyrin injection in the treatment of disseminated pleural malignancies of Lewis lung carcinoma in mice to provide a theoretical basis for thoracic PDT in the clinic. Hematoporphyrin was administered into the thoracic cavity of tumor-bearing mice, and the concentrations of hematoporphyrin in normal and tumor pleural tissues were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography. The tumor-bearing mice were randomly divided into four groups: model control, pure laser irradiation, PDT low-dose, and PDT high-dose groups.

Effects of extracellular histones on left ventricular diastolic function and potential mechanisms in mice with sepsis.

Am J Transl Res

January 2022

Department of Cardiology, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Ionic-Molecular Function of Cardiovascular Disease, Tianjin Institute of Cardiology, The Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University Tianjin 300211, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Extracellular histone (EH) is involved in the development of septic myocardial injury (SMI). In this study, we explored whether EH could induce left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in sepsis, and investigated the potential mechanisms through and experiments using animal models.

Methods: The ratio between E-wave and A-wave (E/A ratio), left ventricular end diastolic volume, and isovolumic relaxation time (IVRT) were measured in cecal ligation and perforation (CLP)- and EH-treated male C57BL/6J mice using echocardiography.

Department of Diabetic Nephropathy Hemodialysis, The Metabolic Disease Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Key Laboratory of Hormone and Development (Ministry of Health), Tianjin Key Laboratory of Metabolic Disease Tianjin 300070, China.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified to be critical functional regulator in the human tumors, while the deepgoing mechanism by which lncRNAs modulates the endometrial carcinoma is still elusive. In this work, we found that lncRNA GAS5 was under-expressed in the endometrial carcinoma tissue specimens, especially these samples with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Besides, the aberrant under-expression of GAS5 was correlated with the advanced tumor stage as well as poor prognosis outcome.

Hepatic cancer is a class of cancer that is relatively insensitive to chemotherapy, and cancers that harbor EGFR active mutations are more sensitive to EGFR-TK inhibitor such as gefitinib, which becomes the first-line treatment of this subtype of cancer. However, almost all patients treated with gefitinib will develop drug resistance. Here we show that a protein called integrin beta-8 (ITGB8) when over-expressed, is correlated with the gefitinib resistance of hepatic cancer cell line HepG2/G.
