Objectives: To establish an intracranial vessel wall enhancement (VWE) scoring system and evaluate its potential as a protocol for monitoring systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disease activity and neuropsychiatric impairment.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study, fifty patients with SLE underwent conventional MRI and high-resolution magnetic resonance vascular wall imaging (HR-VWI) at three tertiary hospitals between August 2022 and December 2023. We analyzed VWE distribution in intracranial arteries, developed a scoring system based on enhancement patterns, and examined the relationship between VWE scores, disease activity, and cognitive function.

When Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) fails in patients with obstructive jaundice, EUS-guided rendezvous technique (EUS-RV) becomes an alternative treatment. For the EUS-RV, we can puncture the intrahepatic bile duct (IHBD) and the extrahepatic bile duct (EHBD). Puncturing the EHBD needs through duodenum, the puncture site can be divided into via the proximal duodenum (D1) and via the second portion of the duodenum (D2).

Nuclear receptor co-activator 4 (NCOA4) acts as a selective cargo receptor that binds to ferritin, a cytoplasmic iron storage complex. By mediating ferritinophagy, NCOA4 regulates iron metabolism and releases free iron in the body, thus playing a crucial role in a variety of biological processes, including growth, development, and metabolism. Recent studies have shown that NCOA4-mediated ferritinophagy is closely associated with the occurrence and development of iron metabolism-related diseases, such as liver fibrosis, renal cell carcinoma, and neurodegenerative diseases.

In recent years, there has been increasing research on computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) using deep learning and image processing techniques. Still, most studies have focused on the benign-malignant classification of nodules. In this study, we propose an integrated architecture for grading thyroid nodules based on the Chinese Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (C-TIRADS).

Background: With the advancements in medical technology, the death rate from myocardial infarction (MI), a prevalent heart illness, has gradually decreased; however, treatment hurdles and diagnostic issues remain. Mogrol is a naturally occurring plant extract with specific biological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and hypoglycemic effects. These biological activities make it a potential therapeutic drug or research subject; however, its function in MI remains unclear.

Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), a persistent organic pollutant, significantly disrupts thyroid function. This study presented an integrated computational approach, combining network toxicology, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulations to systematically elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying PFOS induced thyroid toxicity. Through integrated analysis of the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD), GeneCards, and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) databases, we identified 205 potential thyroid toxicity-related targets.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed machine learning models to predict near-term all-cause and cardiovascular death in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD).
  • These models were based on data from 7539 PD patients, using demographic, clinical, and laboratory markers and evaluated using established performance metrics like AUROC and precision-recall curves.
  • The CVDformer models showed strong predictive accuracy, with AUROC values of 0.8767 and 0.9026 for all-cause and cardiovascular death, respectively, indicating high sensitivity and positive predictive values, though further calibration is needed.

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and debilitating inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS), characterized by demyelination and neurodegeneration. Emerging evidence implicates neutrophils in MS pathogenesis, particularly through processes like neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation and degranulation, which may exacerbate inflammation and autoimmunity.

Methods: RNA sequencing of peripheral blood neutrophils from MS patients and healthy controls identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs).

Left main coronary artery (LMCA) spasm is an exceedingly rare but potentially fatal condition. We present a case of severe stenosis of LMCA found by coronary angiography (CAG) due to recurrent chest pain, and subsequently received coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Nine years later, the patient was readmitted to the hospital because of precordial discomfort.

Introduction: Tumor drug resistance, particularly immune-mediated resistance, poses a significant challenge in cancer therapy, especially in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the most common and aggressive subtype of renal cancer. Tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs) within the tumor microenvironment (TME) play pivotal roles in tumor progression, immune evasion, and therapy resistance. This study explores the prognostic and therapeutic implications of TIICs in ccRCC, aiming to uncover molecular underpinnings and potential strategies to counter drug resistance.

Department of Pathology, Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, China; Hebei Key Laboratory of Kidney Diseases, Shijiazhuang, China; Center of Metabolic Diseases and Cancer Research, Institute of Medical and Health Science of Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, China. Electronic address:

F-box and WD repeat domain-containing 7 (FBXW7) protein is known as one of the crucial components of the E3 ubiquitin ligase called the Skp1-Cullin1-F-box (SCF) complex, which regulates the degradation of a network of proteins via the ubiquitin-proteasome system. In our study, we investigated the latent impact of FBXW7 on renal tubular cells injury and its molecular mechanism in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). FBXW7 was upregulated in kidneys of diabetic mice and human renal proximal tubular cells exposed to high glucose.

Department of Radiology, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Functional Imaging, and State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Tianjin, China.

Socioeconomic status (SES) is a time-varying multidimensional construct with ill-defined dimension-specific and age-specific effects on brain and behavior. We investigated these effects in 4,228 young adults. From 16 socioeconomic indicators, assessed for early (0-10 years) and late (>10 years) stages, we constructed family, provincial, family adverse and neighborhood adverse socioeconomic dimensions.

Nanomaterials Enhanced Sonodynamic Therapy for Multiple Tumor Treatment.

Nanomicro Lett

February 2025

College of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Hebei University of Science and Technology, Shijiazhuang, 050018, People's Republic of China.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) as an emerging modality for malignant tumors mainly involves in sonosensitizers and low-intensity ultrasound (US), which can safely penetrate the tissue without significant attenuation. SDT not only has the advantages including high precision, non-invasiveness, and minimal side effects, but also overcomes the limitation of low penetration of light to deep tumors. The cytotoxic reactive oxygen species can be produced by the utilization of sonosensitizers combined with US and kill tumor cells.

February 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, The Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Hebei Key Laboratory of Gastroenterology, Hebei Institute of Gastroenterology, Hebei Clinical Research Center for Digestive Diseases, Shijiazhuang050000, Hebei Province, China.

Background: Fungal esophagitis (FE) is caused by fungal invasion of the esophageal mucosa. Under endoscopy, the esophageal mucosa shows edema, congestion, erosion, and ulceration, and bleeds easily when touched, and the surface of the mucosa is covered with small white spots like "bean curd residue". Clinical cases showing typical FE under endoscopic imaging but negative esophageal mucosal brush (referred to as suspected FE) have increased the difficulty and challenge of clinical diagnosis and treatment.
