Introduction: Periodontitis is the most common non-communicable disease in humans. The main challenge in the treatment of periodontitis is to effectively control periodontal inflammation and promote tissue repair. Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells-derived exosomes (hucMSCs-exo) have been reported to modulate inflammatory responses and promote tissue repairment mainly through miRNAs in several diseases.

Department of Prosthodontics, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Jinzhou Medical University, Jinzhou 121000,  China; Collaborative Innovation Center for Health Promotion of Children and Adolescents of Jinzhou Medical University, Jinzhou 121000, China. Electronic address:

Biodegradable electrospun bone repair materials are effective means to treat bone defects. However, because the electrospun substrates are mostly organic polymer materials, there is a lack of real-time and intuitive monitoring methods for their degradation in vivo. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop in vivo traced electrospun bone repair materials for postoperative observation of their degradation.

Imbalanced EphB4/EphrinB2 Signaling Modulates Bone Resorption in Periodontitis Induced by .

ACS Infect Dis

April 2024

Department of Periodontics, Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, School and Hospital of Stomatology, China Medical University, Shenyang 110002, China.

Periodontitis, a chronic infectious disease in periodontal tissues, is characterized by an imbalance of alveolar bone resorption and remodeling, which eventually results in tooth loosening and even tooth loss. The etiology of periodontitis is polymicrobial synergy and dysbiosis, in which () is one of the primary pathogens responsible for periodontitis progression. The interplay of EphrinB2/EphB4 is crucial for osteoblast-osteoclast communication during bone remodeling and healing.

Objective: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) is a potentially severe complication associated with antiresorptive or antiangiogenic therapies. Prior studies, including our own clinical data, have indicated a higher incidence of MRONJ among women compare to men. However, robust evidence establishing a relationship between sex and the prevalence of MRONJ is lacking.

Electronic address:

Long-term usage of bisphosphonates, especially zoledronic acid (ZA), induces osteogenesis disorders and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in patients, thereby contributing to the destruction of bone remodeling and the continuous progression of osteonecrosis. Menaquinone-4 (MK-4), a specific vitamin K isoform converted by the mevalonate (MVA) pathway in vivo, exerts the promotion of bone formation, whereas ZA administration suppresses this pathway and results in endogenous MK-4 deficiency. However, no study has evaluated whether exogenous MK-4 supplementation can prevent ZA-induced MRONJ.

Article Synopsis
  • M2-type macrophages, which help suppress inflammation, can be induced by cytokines like IL-4 or IL-13, but the effects of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) on them remain unclear.
  • In experiments, macrophages were treated with ATRA at different concentrations while considering the role of p38MAPKα inhibition, and various methods were used to assess the M2 polarization effect.
  • The results showed that ATRA increased the levels of M2-type macrophages and associated markers, suggesting it enhances M2 polarization through the p38MAPK/STAT6 pathway, but this effect was diminished when the inhibitor was used.

Magnesium (Mg) alloy with good mechanical properties and biodegradability is considered as one of the ideal bone repair materials. However, the rapid corrosion of Mg-based metals can pose harm to the function of an implant in clinical applications. In this study, micro-arc oxidation coating was prepared on the surface of the Mg-Ca matrix, then the chitosan and mineralized collagen (nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen; nHAC) were immobilized on the surface of the MAO/Mg-Ca matrix to construct the CS-nHAC/Mg-Ca composites of different component proportions (the ratio of CS to nHAC is 2:1, 1:1, and 1:2, respectively).

MicroRNA-145-5p (miR-145-5p) is expressed in a variety of tumors, but the mechanism underlying miR-145-5p in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) is not fully understood. Therefore, the present study investigated the role of miR-145-5p in TSCC. miR-145-5p expression levels in TSCC tissues were analyzed via reverse transcription-quantitative PCR.

Background: Exosomes are small membrane vesicles that are secreted by most cell types. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have recently been identified in exosomes, and exosomal circRNAs exert important biological activities in human cancers, including oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The purpose of this study was to investigate whether circRNA GDP dissociation inhibitor 2 (circGDI2) was transferred by exosomes and how exosomal circGDI2 regulated OSCC cell malignant behaviors.

Type I collagen (Col I) is a main component of extracellular matrix (ECM). Its safety, biocompatibility, hydrophilicity and pyrogen immunogenicity make it suitable for tissues engineering applications. Mg also control a myriad of cellular processes, including the bone development by enhancing the attachment and differentiation of osteoblasts and accelerating mineralization to enhance bone healing.

The aim of the present study was to analyze the percentage of regulatory T cells (Treg) and T helper cell 17 (Th17) cells in the peripheral blood of patients with tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) to provide novel insight into the development of immune-targeting therapies for TSCC. Peripheral blood samples were collected from 40 patients with TSCC then the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and plasma were isolated for flow cytometry, cytometric bead array and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. Results demonstrated that the percentage of cluster of differentiation (CD)4+ T cells in the peripheral blood of patients with TSCC decreased significantly compared with the control.
