Objectives: Our previous study has showed that human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) transplantation improves neurological recovery after traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) in rats. However, less is known about the effects of exosomes derived from hAMSCs for TSCI. Here, we investigated whether hAMSCs-derived exosomes improve neurological recovery in TSCI rats and the underlying mechanisms.

State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Municipal and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Protein Modification and Degradation, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cell, play pivotal roles in cellular processes ranging from energy production to innate immunity. Their unique double-membrane structure typically sequesters mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from the rest of the cell. However, under oxidative or immune stress, mtDNA can escape into the cytoplasm, posing a threat as a potential danger signal.

Interleukin-33 (IL-33) is a member of the interleukin-1 cytokine family. Its function in regulating microglial M1/M2 polarization in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is still unelucidated. To evaluate the role of IL-33 in NMOSD, we constructed NMOSD mice model by injecting purified serum IgG from AQP4-IgG seropositive NMOSD patients into experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mice, and IL-33 was intraperitoneally injected into NMOSD mice 3 d before the model induction.

Colitis is a chronic bowel disease characterized by damage to the lining of the large intestine, with its precise underlying causes remaining incompletely understood. In this study, we provide evidence that circular RNA circNlgn plays a pivotal role in promoting the development of colitis. Colitis patients produce significant higher levels of circNlgn.

Introduction: The cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) based on postero-anterior chest X-rays (P-A CXR) images is one of the most commonly used cardiac measurement methods and an indicator for initially evaluating cardiac diseases. However, the hearts are not readily observable on P-A CXR images compared to the lung fields. Therefore, radiologists often manually determine the CTR's right and left heart border points of the adjacent left and right lung fields to the heart based on P-A CXR images.

Cancer is one of the most concerning public health issues and breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. The immune cells within the tumor microenvironment regulate cancer development. In this study, single immune cell data sets were used to identify marker gene sets for exhausted CD8 + T cells (CD8Tex) in breast cancer.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a common and serious blood cancer in adults, where natural killer (NK) cells are important for the immune response but can be hindered by immune checkpoint changes.
  • This study aimed to assess the role of CD96, an inhibitory checkpoint, on NK cells in AML patients, finding that those with higher CD96 expression had dysfunctional NK cells and produced less IFN-γ, a critical immune signaling molecule.
  • Blocking CD96 improved the ability of NK cells to kill leukemia cells, suggesting that targeting CD96 could help enhance NK cell function and potentially improve patient outcomes in AML.

Objective: This study aimed to verify if intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) can achieve the same survival outcome as whole-breast external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) in early breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery (BCS), and to explore the suitable candidates that can safely receive IORT after BCS.

Methods: Eligible post-BCS patients who received IORT or EBRT were included in the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database from 2010 to 2018. Risk factors that affected 5-year overall survival (OS) or breast cancer specific survival (BCSS) were identified by Cox proportional hazards regression analysis.

Aging is a significant risk factor for the increased incidence of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, posing significant challenges to global public health. The role of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) in the development of chronic kidney disease has been reported, but the regulatory mechanism of m6A in kidney aging remains unclear. In this study, we identified a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), called taurine up-regulated 1 (TUG1), which exhibited a significantly decreased level of m6A modification in human aged kidney through the m6A-lncRNA epitranscriptome microarray.

T cells play important roles in antitumor immunity. However, given that the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumor microenvironment confers resistance to T cell-based immunotherapies, novel strategies to boost T cell-mediated antitumor efficacy are urgently needed for the treatment of HCC. Here, we show that high proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type9 (PCSK9) expression was negatively associated with HCC patient's overall survival and markers of CD8 T cells.

Targeted co-delivery of rapamycin and oxaliplatin by liposomes suppresses tumor growth and metastasis of colorectal cancer.

Biomed Pharmacother

September 2024

Department of Pharmacy, Biomedicine Research Center, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Major Obstetric Diseases, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Third Affiliated Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou 510150, China. Electronic address:

The activation of tumor cell immunogenicity through oxaliplatin (OXP)-induced immunogenic cell death (ICD) has significant implications in cancer treatment. However, the anti-tumor effect of OXP monotherapy still has many shortcomings, and the systemic administration of OXP leads to low drug concentration at the tumor site, which is susceptible to systemic toxic side effects. In this study, a combined therapeutic strategy using folate-modified nanoliposomes co-delivered with rapamycin (Rapa) and OXP (abbreviated as FA@R/O Lps) is proposed for the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC).
