Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is a significant public health concern in the USA, and its burden is on the rise.
Methods: This study utilized the latest data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. We provided descriptive statistics on the incidence, prevalence, mortality, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and age-standardized rates (ASRs) of GC across the USA and states.

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) exposure has been linked to asthma, but their individual and combined effects in children remain unclear. Using data from the 2003-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), we investigated the associations between PAHs and asthma through logistic regression, Weighted Quantile Sum (WQS) regression, Quantile g Computation (qg computation), and Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression (BKMR). Subgroup analyses revealed a significant impact of PAHs on asthma, particularly in males.

Objective: In the past, the localization of seizure onset zone (SOZ) primarily relied on traditional EEG signal analysis methods. However, due to their limited spatial and temporal resolution, accurately pinpointing neural activity was challenging, thereby restricting their clinical applicability. Compared with traditional EEG signals, SEEG signals have superior spatial and temporal resolution, and can more accurately record neural activity near epileptic foci, making them better suited for studying SOZ.

Background: Treatment of femoral neck fractures in patients who are nongeriatric (≤ 60 years) is challenging because of high failure rates. Anatomic parameters influence the biomechanical environment for fracture healing, but their associations with clinical prognosis remains unclear.
Questions/purposes: (1) Which anatomic parameter that is identifiable on pelvic radiographs shows a statistical correlation with a higher risk of clinical failure defined as nonunion, avascular necrosis (AVN), reoperation, and functional failure (decrease in Harris hip score reaching the minimum clinically important difference) in the screw fixation of femoral neck fractures among nongeriatric patients? (2) How does the influence of anatomic parameters on clinical prognosis manifest: directly or mediated by additional mechanisms?
Methods: This retrospective, multicenter study used a nationwide database in China.

To examine the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of elderly patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and the impact of nutrition and underlying diseases on the prognosis of elderly patients with MCL. retrospectively analyzed 255 elderly patients with MCL from 11 medical centers, including Peking University Third Hospital between January 2000 and February 2021. We analyzed clinical data, such as age, gender, Mantle Cell Lymphoma International Prognostic Index score, and treatment options, and performed univariate and multivariate prognostic analysis.

Targeted cancer therapies have revolutionized the treatment of the disease in the past decade. The tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) class of drugs is a widely used option for treating various cancers. Despite numerous advances, clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated the atherosclerosis-inducing properties of these drugs that can cause adverse cardiovascular events.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of psychotic depression and the differences in sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and prescription patterns of psychotropic medications between patients with psychotic depression (PD) and patients with nonpsychotic depression (NPD) in China.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 13 major psychiatric hospitals or the psychiatric units of general hospitals in China from September 1, 2010, to February 28, 2011. PD was defined according to the psychotic disorder section of the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI).

Regulation of long-chain non-coding RNA01592 (LINC01592) in the process of transforming retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells into mesenchymal cells following induction by transforming growth factor beat 1 (TGF-β1) was investigated by interfering with LINC01592 expression in human RPE (hRPE) cells. LINC01592 expression in hRPE cells was significantly increased following treatment with 10 ng/mL TGF-β1 for 48 h. Expression of E-cadherin and Snail were decreased in hRPE cells following induction with TGF-β1 compared with the control group ( 0.

Introduction: Few studies of the effect of cardiac abnormalities on acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) outcomes have been published. We sought to determine whether the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is associated with the functional outcome and mortality of acute ICH patients.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on 364 acute ICH patients from January to December 2016.

The increased incidence of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in recent decades might be related to changes in modern dietary habits. Since sodium chloride (NaCl) promotes pathogenic T cell responses, we hypothesize that excessive salt intake contributes to the increased incidence of autoimmune diseases, including SLE. Given the importance of dendritic cells (DCs) in the pathogenesis of SLE, we explored the influence of an excessive sodium chloride diet on DCs in a murine SLE model.

In previous study, we have found that microRNA-23a is down regulated in atherosclerotic tissues. Here we demonstrate that miR-23a directly binds to 3'UTR of HSP90 mRNA to suppress the expression of HSP90. To investigate the potential roles of miR-23a in macrophage, THP-1 macrophages were transfected with miR-23a mimics or inhibitors.

Coxsackievirus B (CVB) is the major cause of human myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy. Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) is an intracellular sensor to detect pathogen's dsRNA. TLR3, along with TRAF6, triggers an inflammatory response through NF-κB signaling pathway.

Background: Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE), an acute inflammatory disease of the central nervous system is caused by the herpes simplex virus infection. HSE occurs at any age, and it is often accompanied by high mortality and neurological dysfunction. The C1Q/TNF-related protein (CTRP) family, usually contains a homotrimeric structure, which comprises the N-terminal signal peptide and the C-terminal C1q globular domain.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the prevalence of restless leg syndrome (RLS) and exploring the contributing factors that affect the development of RLS in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted consisting of 178 consecutive PD patients from our hospital between October 2015 and August 2016. We divided the participants into two groups, which were PD with RLS and PD with non-RLS.

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a severe adverse effect that results from bone marrow or peripheral blood cells transplantation and has a high rate of mortality. About 50% of the patients are accompanied with acute Graft-versus-Host Disease (aGVHD) after bone marrow cell transplantation and need systematic treatment. It has an important clinical significance to evaluate the prevention and treatment effects of GVHD.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is characterized by an increased incidence of thromboembolic events, particularly when treated with immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) in combination with dexamethasone. The optimal prophylactic strategy to prevent the hypercoagulable state of patients with MM is still debated. The aim of the current study was to investigate the definitive role of phosphatidylserine (PS) in supporting procoagulant activity (PCA) in patients with MM.

Background/aims: Lemur tyrosine kinase (LMTK)-3 is a member of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) family. Abnormal expression of LMTK-3 exists in various types of cancers, especially in endocrine-resistant breast cancers; however, the precise level of expression and the biological function in prostate cancer are poorly understood.
Methods: In the present study, we determined the expression of LMTK-3 in prostate cancer using immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.
