Mitochondrial Rho-GTPase 1 (MIRO1) is an outer mitochondrial membrane protein which regulates mitochondrial transport and mitophagy in mitosis. In present study, we reported the crucial roles of MIRO1 in mammalian oocyte meiosis and its potential relationship with aging. We found that MIRO1 expressed in mouse and porcine oocytes, and its expression decreased in aged mice.

Diseases and injuries can cause significant bone loss, leading to increased medical expenses, decreased work efficiency, and a decline in quality of life. Bone tissue engineering (BTE) is gaining attention as an alternative to autologous and allogeneic transplantation due to the limited availability of donors. Biomaterials represent a promising strategy for bone regeneration, and their design should consider the three key processes in bone tissue engineering: osteogenesis, bone conduction, and bone induction.

Chromothripsis, a hallmark of cancer, is characterized by extensive and localized DNA rearrangements involving one or a few chromosomes. However, its genome-wide frequency and characteristics in urothelial carcinoma (UC) remain largely unknown. Here, by analyzing single-regional and multi-regional whole-genome sequencing (WGS), we present the chromothripsis blueprint in 488 UC patients.

Background: A significant proportion of patients with isolated atrial flutter (AFL) will develop atrial fibrillation (AF) following cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) ablation.

Objective: To determine whether concomitant pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) could reduce the incidence of new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) in the setting of inducible AF following CTI ablation.

Methods: A total of 275 consecutive patients with isolated AFL who successfully underwent CTI ablation were included.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a complex acute respiratory illness with a high mortality rate. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a pivotal role in ALI, inducing cellular damage, inflammation, and oxidative stress, thereby exacerbating the severity of the injury. In this study, inspired by the "subtractive" strategy, we developed a fucoidan-based macrophage membrane bio-nanosystem, abbreviated as MF@CB, designed as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent to alleviate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in ALI.

This was a case report and literature review, aimed to strengthen the understanding and therapy of mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) pneumonia combined with cold agglutinin disease and pulmonary embolism in children. A 7-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with fever for 7 days, cough for 5 days, and recurrent cyanosis at the extremities of one day duration. Pulmonary artery computed tomography angiography (CTA) showed pulmonary embolism, double pneumonia, and pleural effusion.

The use of transaxillary and transsubclavian approaches for endoscopic thyroidectomy has increased globally. However, studies examining the comparative outcomes of these procedures are scarce. In this study, we aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of thyroidectomy between the gasless endoscopic thyroidectomy transaxillary approach (GETTA) and gasless endoscopic thyroidectomy transsubclavian approach (GETTSA) in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC).

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines the prevalence of co-infections with Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) in patients with respiratory infections like COVID-19 and H7N9, highlighting a lack of previous research on this topic.
  • A total of 49 Bcc isolates were analyzed from patients, revealing that those infected with COVID-19 had a higher rate of multidrug resistance and a shorter median lethal time compared to those with H7N9.
  • The findings suggest that COVID-19-Bcc may have evolved from H7N9-Bcc, demonstrating increased virulence and antibiotic resistance in the context of respiratory infections.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of glucocorticoids combined with antiviral drugs (GA) versus glucocorticoids alone (GO) in the treatment of Bell's Palsy.

Database Reviewed: According to the PRISMA2020 guidelines, we searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for English articles from their inception to August 10, 2023, and performed a secondary search on October 31, 2024.

Methods: Studies describing the efficacy of (GA) for Bell's Palsy versus (GO).

Decidualization of endometrial stromal cells is a prerequisite for successful embryo implantation and early pregnancy. Decidualization dysregulation results in implantation failure. In our previous study, we reported that PAI-1 is abnormally downregulated in the endometrial tissue samples of patients with recurrent implantation failure.

As a flagship taxa for marine ecosystems, seahorses possess a unique reproductive strategy of "male pregnancy". They are severely threatened by marine petroleum-based pollution but the molecular mechanism involved remains unclear. We evaluated the toxic effects and mechanisms of sub-acute exposure to benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), a representative polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), at three environmental related dosages (0.

Background: Historically, β-blockers have been associated with erectile dysfunction (ED). Nebivolol, a third-generation β-blocker, may have had no negative effect on erectile function because of its vasodilating properties. However, the evidence level was considered either as low or very low.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) are among the most prevalent nanomaterials utilized in industrial and medical fields. However, their impact on spermatogenesis and male fertility remains insufficiently characterized. This study addresses the reproductive toxicity of TiO NPs and elucidates the underlying molecular mechanisms involved.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks among the most prevalent gastrointestinal tumors globally and poses a significant threat to human health. In recent years, tumor organoids have emerged as ideal models for clinical disease research owing to their ability to closely mimic the original tumor tissue and maintain a stable phenotypic structure. Organoid technology has found widespread application in basic tumor research, precision therapy, and new drug development, establishing itself as a reliable preclinical model in CRC research.

Background: Recent phase III randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) improve prognosis in advanced HER-2-negative gastric cancer patients with programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) combined positive score (CPS) higher than 5. However, these findings are not confirmed in real-world settings, and the benefits in PD-L1 CPS < 5 patients remain controversial.

Methods: In this multicenter, retrospective cohort study, data from across thirteen medical centers were analyzed by inverse probability of treatment weighting for matching, alongside univariate and multivariate COX proportional hazard regression models.

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Guangdong Key Laboratory of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Diagnosis and Therapy, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, 510060, China.

The identification of ferroptosis-sensitive cancers is critical for the application of ferroptosis-inducing therapies in cancer therapy. Here, patient-derived organoid screening models of colorectal cancer are established to identify tumors that are sensitive to ferroptosis-inducing therapy. This study discovers that patient-derived tumors characterized by mitophagy deficiency are hypersensitive to ferroptosis-inducing therapies.

Accurate segmentation and classification of nuclei in histology images is critical but challenging due to nuclei heterogeneity, staining variations, and tissue complexity. Existing methods often struggle with limited dataset variability, with patches extracted from similar whole slide images (WSI), making models prone to falling into local optima. Here we propose a new framework to address this limitation and enable robust nuclear analysis.

Background: Patients with trigeminal neuralgia frequently undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) prior to surgery. In patients without the signs and symptoms of face discomfort, MRI has shown the presence of neurovascular contact (NVC) in humans. Therefore, its capacity to accurately exclude NVC of the trigeminal nerve is not properly understood.
