This paper presents a meta-analysis regarding the detection rate (DR) of fluorine-18 (F)-labeled prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PSMA PET/CT) in the management of patients with prostate cancer (PCa). Relevant studies regarding F-PSMA PET/CT in the management of PCa published until June 1, 2021, were electronically searched in online databases including EMBASE, PubMed, and Web of Science. The primary outcome was the DR of F-PSMA PET/CT in managing PCa patients, while the secondary outcome was the DR of F-PSMA PET/CT according to Gleason scores and serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level.

Impact of diabetes mellitus developing after kidney transplantation on patient mortality and graft survival: a meta-analysis of adjusted data.

Diabetol Metab Syndr

October 2021

Department of Endocrinology, The Yancheng School of Clinical Medicine of Nanjing Medical University, Yancheng Third People's Hospital, No. 75 Juchang Road, Yancheng, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) occurs in 10-30% of kidney transplant recipients. However, its impact on mortality and graft survival is still ambiguous. Therefore, the current study aimed to analyze if PTDM increases mortality and graft failure by pooling multivariable-adjusted data from individual studies.

Luteolin-Loading Her-2 Nanospheres Enhances Targeting and Therapeutic Effects of Breast Cancer.

J Biomed Nanotechnol

August 2021

Department of Pathology, The Yancheng School of Clinical Medicine of Nanjing Medical University, Yancheng Third People's Hospital, The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University,Yancheng, Jiangsu 224000, P. R. China.

Despite the broad anticancer activity, whereas the clinical application of luteolin is hindered by unsatisfactory water solubility and non-targeting. Herein, targeted inhibitory effects of luteolin-loading HER2 nanospheres (Her-2-NPs) were successfully prepared by thin film ultrasonic method. In comparison with the non-targeted nanospheres, Her-2 nanospheres could significantly boost the intake of luteolin in SK-BR-3 cells.

Erlotinib (ER), as an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), has a significant therapeutic effect in lung cancers. However, EGFR TKI resistance inevitably occurs after treatment for approximately 12 months, which weakens its antitumor effect. Here, we identified miR-185-3p as a significantly downregulated microRNA responsible for acquired EGFR TKI resistance in cells and patients with lung cancer.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has been one of the key causes of cancer deaths worldwide. It has been found that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is related to the generation and progression of various cancers (including ESCC). However, there are still many lncRNAs related to ESCC whose functions and molecular mechanisms have not been clearly elucidated.

Background: Due to the lack of effective and feasible viral biomarkers to distinguish viral infection from bacterial infection, children often receive unnecessary antibiotic treatment. To identify serum 2-microglobulin that distinguishes bacterial upper respiratory tract infection from viral upper respiratory tract infection and exanthem subitum in children.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted from January 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020 in Yancheng Third People's Hospital.

We investigated the function of microRNA (miR)-532-5p in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CI/RI) and the underlying mechanisms using oxygen-glucose deprivation and reperfusion (OGD/R)-treated SH-SY5Y cells and middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model rats. MiR-532-5p levels were significantly downregulated in OGD/R-treated SH-SY5Y cells and the brain tissues of MCAO model rats. MiR-532-5p overexpression significantly reduced apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and inflammation in the OGD/R-induced SH-SY5Y cells.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common age-related neurodegenerative disease that affects the structural architecture of the cerebral cortex. Cortical thickness (CTh) via surface-based morphometry (SBM) analysis is a popular measure to assess brain structural alterations in the gray matter in PD. However, the results of CTh analysis in PD lack consistency and have not been systematically reviewed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate thalamic function in patients with lifelong premature ejaculation (LPE) to understand how brain changes might influence sexual behavior.
  • Using advanced brain imaging techniques, researchers compared thalamic metabolism between 20 LPE patients and 15 healthy individuals, finding significant increases in specific glutamate levels in the patients.
  • Results suggest that altered glutamatergic activity in the thalamus could serve as a marker for evaluating sexual function in LPE, although the study has limitations in its scope.

Background: Neurofilament light chain (NfL), an index of neuroaxonal injury, is a promising diagnostic and prognostic fluid biomarker with high translational value in many neurodegenerative disorders. Blood NfL measurement has been an exciting and active field of research in idiopathic Parkinson disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonisms. However, blood NfL levels in these parkinsonisms from existing literature were inconsistent.

Background: Parkinson disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder. Elevations of neurofilament light chain (NfL) concentrations in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood are a marker of neuronal/axonal injury and degeneration. However, CSF and blood NfL alterations in patients with PD from existing studies remain inconclusive.
