This study aimed to construct machine learning models and predict prolonged intensive care units (ICU) stay in patients receiving perioperative intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) therapy during cardiac surgery. 236 patients were divided into the normal (≤ 14 days) and prolonged (> 14 days) ICU groups based on the 75th percentile of ICU duration across the entire cohort. Seven machine learning models were trained and validated.

UBE2C (Ubiquitination-binding enzyme 2C), one of the E2 enzymes encoded in the human genome, is a component of the ubiquitin proteasome system and plays a pivotal role in regulating cell cycle progression. Moreover, UBE2C is highly expressed and may play a pivotal role in both high-incidence and high-mortality malignancies, including lung cancers, breast cancers, and esophageal cancers. UBE2C influences a number of key processes, including cell cycle progression, tumor invasion and metastasis, proliferation, and drug resistance.

Combined hepatocellular cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CCA) is a unique subtype of primary liver cancer displaying both hepatocytic and cholangiocytic differentiation. The development of effective treatments for cHCC-CCA remains challenging because of its high heterogeneity and lack of a suitable model system. Using a three-dimensional culture system, we successfully established two novel cHCC-CCA organoid lines from patients undergoing surgical resection for primary liver cancer.

Objective: To construct a universally applicable nomogram using computed tomography perfusion parameters based on Rapid processing of PerfusIon and Diffusion software for evaluating the prognosis of acute anterior circulation large vessel occlusion treated by endovascular therapy.
Methods: A total of 130 patients were divided into 2 groups: a group with a good prognosis [Rankin Rating Scale (mRS) score ≤2 points] and a group with a poor prognosis (mRS score >2 points). The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator logistic regression method was used to screen the predictive factors, and a nomogram chart prediction model was established.

Background: Current research has demonstrated that Simvastatin (SIM) and Whole Body Vibration (WBV) actively contributes to the repair of osteoporotic bones. However, there is still limited knowledge regarding the impact of this combined therapy on osseointegration in elderly individuals. Objective: The objective of this study was to verify the influence of WBV and SIM combination treatment on Titanium implants' fixation strength in aged rats.

Background: Dyslipidemia is prominently associated with adverse outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). The non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHHR) is a novel comprehensive lipid index. However, limited evidence exists on the relationship of the NHHR with the risk of adverse outcomes in patients with CAD.

Background: Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases. This study aims to evaluate the clinical value and benefit of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in transthoracic minimally invasive closure of VSDs using a completely biodegradable occluders, summarize the main points of surgical procedures, and analyze the follow-up results of short-term and medium-term treatment.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 24 pediatric cases of VSD, successfully treated with TEE-guided minimally invasive closure using fully biodegradable occluders between June 2019 and June 2022.

Objective: Parkinson's disease (PD) is increasingly recognized for its non-motor symptoms, among which emotional disturbances and sleep disorders frequently co-occur. The commonality of neuroanatomical underpinnings for these symptoms is not fully understood. This study is intended to investigate the differences in gray matter volume (GMV) between PD patients with anxiety (A-PD) and those without anxiety (NA-PD).

Backgrounds: Research has demonstrated that elevated serum total bilirubin (STB) levels have a beneficial impact on various diseases, particularly metabolic syndrome. This study aims to investigate the association between STB levels and serum testosterone (STT) in order to determine if bilirubin plays a protective role in relation to testosterone deficiency (TD) risk.
Methods: In this study, a total of 6,526 eligible male participants aged 20 years or older were analyzed, all of whom took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2011 and 2016.

The inhibition of the immune response in the tumor microenvironment by therapy regimens can impede the eradication of tumors, potentially resulting in tumor metastasis. As a non-invasive therapeutic method, radiotherapy is utilized for tumor ablation. In this study, we aimed to improve the therapeutic impact of radiotherapy and trigger an immune response by formulating a benzothiazole sulfinate (BTS)-loaded fusion liposome (BFL) nanoplatform, which was then combined with radiotherapy for anti-cancer treatment.

Aims: Prostate cancer patients face impaired body image and psychological distress during the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, which leads to changes in mood, cognition and behavior. Psychological resilience has been shown to buffer shocks and stresses from the disease. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between family functioning and psychological resilience in prostate cancer patients and the mediating role of self-efficacy between family functioning and psychological resilience to provide a relevant theoretical basis for improving patients' psychological status by providing relevant theoretical basis.

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a prevalent exocrine inflammatory disorder of the pancreas characterized by pancreatic inflammation and injury to acinar cells. Vitamin B6 (VB6) is a vital nutrient that plays a significant role in preserving human health and has anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects.
Methods: This study aimed to explore the potential pancreatic protective effects of VB6 in mitigating pancreatic inflammation and apoptosis induced by taurocholate sodium (TLCS) in an AP model and to assess the underlying mechanism of action.

Tobacco carcinogens metabolism-related genes (TCMGs) could generate reactive metabolites of tobacco carcinogens, which subsequently contributed to multiple diseases. However, the association between genetic variants in TCMGs and bladder cancer susceptibility remains unclear. In this study, we derived TCMGs from metabolic pathways of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and tobacco-specific nitrosamines, and then explored genetic associations between TCMGs and bladder cancer risk in two populations: a Chinese population of 580 cases and 1101 controls, and a European population of 5930 cases and 5468 controls, along with interaction and joint analyses.
