Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to investigate how different types and durations of screw fixation impact ankle joint function and patient activity after surgery for ankle fractures with associated ligament injuries.
  • A total of 55 patients were evaluated over a follow-up period ranging from 2 to over 4 years, divided into two groups based on when screws were removed (8-15 weeks and 16-22 weeks).
  • Results showed no significant differences in overall ankle mobility, pain levels, or functional outcomes among groups, but suggested that earlier screw removal (8-15 weeks) may allow for better rehabilitation and quicker recovery.

Background: The study aimed to assess the differences in functional fitness between older men living in social welfare homes (SWH) and men living in society.

Methods: The study involved 474 men aged 60-84, including 134 men living in social welfare homes and 340 men living in community. The Senior Fitness Test was used to assess functional fitness.

Radiographic Assessment of Tibiofibular Syndesmosis Injury with Different Durations and Types of Fixation.

J Clin Med

October 2022

Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Opole, al. Witosa 26, 45-401 Opole, Poland.

Introduction: There is no consensus among orthopedic surgeons on the number of cortical layers (tricortical or quadricortical fixation) involved or the duration of syndesmotic fixation after a tibiofibular syndesmosis (TFSD)-injury treatment. The purpose of this study was to assess radiographic parameters following the treatment of TFSD injuries, with various time-windows of syndesmotic screw removal and numbers of cortical layers involved.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-five patients, aged from 25 to 75 years, were included in the study.

Background: The optimal duration of cast immobilization following distal radius fractures (DRFs) in elderly patients has not been established.

Objectives: To assess the functional and radiological parameters following DRF treatment in elderly patients using 2 different periods of cast immobilization.

Material And Methods: We assessed 50 patients (33 women and 17 men).

Depression and anxiety are common among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients but are rarely diagnosed and treated. Furthermore, the fraction of patients with depression is greater among hemodialyzed patients. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of depression symptoms, anxiety and assess the level of life satisfaction in three groups of patients based on the stage of CKD.

Background: The nonstationarity of EEG/MEG signals is important for understanding the functioning of the human brain. From our previous research we know that short, 250-500-ms MEG signals are variance-nonstationary. The covariance of a stochastic process is mathematically associated with its spectral density, therefore we investigate how the spectrum of such nonstationary signals varies in time.

Background: The progress of pediatric surgery and increasingly better diagnosis of fetal defects require detailed knowledge of human developmental anatomy. Precise knowledge of the anatomy of innervation of the lower extremities corresponds to this subject and is not only cognitive but also clinically important. The aim of this study was to analyse the anatomy of the topography of the muscular branches of the superficial fibular nerve (NPS) in the prenatal period, which will fill a gap in the literature.

Purpose: There is no consensus as to the number of bone cortices engaged in tibiofibular syndesmosis treatment. The purpose of our study was to assess the weight distribution on the lower limbs after tricortical or quadricortical syndesmosis fixation and different timing of screw removal.

Methods: A total of 55 patients who underwent treatment for acute tibiofibular syndesmosis injury were analyzed in this study.

Background: A myocardial infarction is a specific clinical condition characterized by a relatively high acute mortality rate. Earlier reperfusion results in a smaller infarct size and a lower mortality rate.

Objectives: To assess the in-hospital mortality in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) regarding patients' characteristics, and the mechanisms behind the deterioration in hemodynamic and clinical status, in order to assess the possibility of preventing this type of death.

Background: Medical emergencies in dental offices are considered a problem in most countries owing to dentists' concerns about emergency preparedness, practical skills, lifesaving equipment and staff availability. The prevalence of medical emergencies in dental offices and dentists' preparedness have been analysed in several countries but have never been studied in Poland.

Aim: To assess the prevalence of medical emergencies in dental offices in Poland, as well as dentists' preparedness and attitudes towards medical emergencies.

December 2017

1Department of Biotechnology and Food Analysis, Institute of Chemistry and Food Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Economics, Wroclaw University of Economics, Komandorska 118-120, 53-345 Wrocław, Poland.

The pH of the medium is the key environmental parameter of chemical selectivity of oxalic acid biosynthesis by . The activity of the enzyme oxaloacetate hydrolase, which is responsible for decomposition of oxaloacetate to oxalate and acetate inside the cell of the fungus, is highest at pH 6. In the present study, the influence of pH in the range of 3-7 on oxalic acid secretion by W78C from sucrose was investigated.

The effects of an early intrahospital rehabilitation on weight bearing during lower extremity lengthening with Ilizarov method.

Acta Bioeng Biomech

November 2017

Wrocław Medical University, Department and Division of Medical Rehabilitation, Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Training, Wrocław, Poland.

Purpose: Exerting axial pressure on the affected lower limb remains one of the most crucial elements of Ilizarov method. The objective was to determine the effects of an early intrahospital rehabilitation on weight bearing during lower extremity lengthening with Ilizarov method.

Methods: The study included 15 patients who underwent lower limb lengthening.
