Objectives: Squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal (SCCA) is a rare condition. Standard treatment includes chemoradiotherapy, with surgical treatment reserved for limited cases. In the future, the decrease in surgical frequency makes it more difficult to pathologically assess the depth of tumor invasion and lymph node status; therefore, those studies based on relatively recent surgical cases may offer valuable insights into diagnosing and treating SCCA.

NpCIPK6-NpSnRK1 module facilitates intersubgeneric hybridization barriers in water lily () by reducing abscisic acid content.

Key Laboratory of Landscaping, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Key Laboratory of Biology of Ornamental Plants in East China, College of Horticulture, Nanjing Agricultural University, No. 666 Binjiang Avenue, Jiangbei New District, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210095, China.

Prefertilization hybridization barriers are the main causes of intersubgeneric hybridization challenges in water lily. However, the mechanism underlying low compatibility between pollen and stigma of water lily remains unclear. This study demonstrates that CBL-interacting protein kinase 6 (CIPK6) responded to the signaling exchange between incompatible pollen and stigma through interactions with SNF1-related kinase 1 (SnRK1) and promotes the accumulation of SnRK1 protein.

Engineered heme proteins possess excellent biocatalytic carbene N-H insertion abilities for sustainable synthesis, and most of them have His as the Fe axial ligand. However, information on the basic reaction mechanisms is limited, and ground states of heme carbenes involved in the prior computational mechanistic studies are under debate. A comprehensive quantum chemical reaction pathway study was performed for the heme model with a His analogue as the axial ligand and carbene from the widely used precursor ethyl diazoacetate with aniline as the substrate.

The interplay of electronic charge, spin, and orbital currents, coherently driven by picosecond long oscillations of light fields in spin-orbit coupled systems, is the foundation of emerging terahertz lightwave spintronics and orbitronics. The essential rules for how terahertz fields interact with these systems in a nonlinear way are still not understood. In this work, we demonstrate a universally applicable electronic nonlinearity originating from spin-orbit interactions in conducting materials, wherein the interplay of light-induced spin and orbital textures manifests.

This study investigates the development and characterization of a novel composite material consisting of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) integrated with (UG) and zinc oxide (ZnO) as fillers. The synergistic effects of UG and ZnO were investigated, focusing on their ability to enhance the film's properties. UV-vis spectrophotometry demonstrated that the composite film effectively blocked all UV (UV-A and UV-B) and blue light wavelengths.

fungal species are considered major plant pathogens, infecting various crops and resulting in significant agricultural losses. Additionally, these species can contaminate grain with multiple mycotoxins that are harmful to humans and animals. Efficient pest management relies on timely detection and identification of phytopathogens in plant and grain samples, facilitating prompt selection of a crop protection strategy.

Thyroid cancer, one of the most common endocrine tumors, generally has a favorable prognosis but remains a significant medical and societal concern due to its high incidence. Early diagnosis and treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) significantly affect long-term outcomes, requiring the selection and application of appropriate initial treatments to improve prognosis and quality of life. Recent advances in technology and health information systems have enhanced our understanding of the molecular genetics of thyroid cancer, facilitating the identification of aggressive subgroups and enabling the accumulation of research on risk factors through big data.

Electric-field induced sleep promotion and lifespan extension in Gaucher's disease model flies.

Biochem Biophys Rep

March 2025

Institute for Chronobiology, Foundation for Advancement of International Science (FAIS), 3-24-16 Kasuga, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, 305-0812, Japan.

Gaucher's disease (GD) is a genetic disease characterized by a mutation in the metabolic enzyme glucocerebrosidase (GBA1), leading to the accumulation of glucosylceramide in tissues. We previously discovered that a -inserted mutation in the gene of fruit flies, , mimics human neuronopathic GD (nGD) characteristics, providing a promising model for studying the molecular mechanisms of the disease. We also reported that extremely low-frequency electric fields (ELF-EFs) promote sleep and extend the lifespan of wild-type flies.

Self-Assembly of V-Shaped Polyaromatic Amphiphiles Studied by Molecular Dynamics Simulation.

J Phys Chem B

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University, Kitashirakawa Oiwake-Cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto 606-8502, Japan.

V-shaped polyaromatic amphiphiles (s) form micelle-like nonbonded self-assemblies in aqueous solution and feature prominent properties of encapsulation and solubilization for various types of hydrophobic molecules. To understand microscopic molecular characteristics underlying the wide capability of solubilization, the atomic-level molecular structures of the self-assemblies of s were investigated by microsecond molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The MD simulations showed that s spontaneously formed quasi-stable self-assemblies, in close agreement with experimental observations.

Screening of Coulombic Interactions To Achieve a Higher Power Factor in Conjugated Polymers.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, Agency for Science Technology and Research, 2 Fusionopolis Way, 08-03 Innovis, Singapore 138634, Singapore.

Thermoelectric properties of conducting polymers typically suffer from molecular chain disordering, as charge transport is predominantly controlled by morphology. This is especially more problematic when counterions are introduced to tune the carrier concentration for optimal thermoelectric performance, which disturbs the morphology further. In this work, we introduce a new avenue for enhancing thermoelectric properties without needing to regulate the morphology, namely, by controlling the coulombic interaction between polarons and counterions.
