Although significant progress has been achieved in elucidating the genetic architecture of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), identifying genes underlying the pathogenesis has been challenging. The NZM2410-derived lupus susceptibility Sle3 locus is associated with T cell hyperactivity and activated myeloid cells. However, candidate genes associated with these phenotypes have not been identified.

Background: Asthma appears to be associated with a variety of psychiatric illnesses including depression and alcohol use disorder. The current study examined the relationship between asthma, heavy alcohol intake and suggested alcohol dependence controlling for depressive symptom severity.
Methods: Data from 37,625 adult patients at the Cooper Clinic who enrolled in the Cooper Center Longitudinal Study, completed a medical history questionnaire including information on asthma, depressive symptoms and alcohol use were used.

Background: The three-dimensional balanced-steady-state-free-precession (3D bSSFP) whole-heart (WH) technique has long been used to depict cardiac morphology in congenital heart disease (CHD) but is prone to banding artifacts. The Relaxation Enhanced Angiography without Contrast and Triggering (REACT) sequence is an alternative method that is resistant to off-resonance effects.
Objective: To evaluate cardiac structures and great vessels in CHD patients using 3D WH REACT sequence and compare it to 3D WH bSSFP sequence.

Recognizing neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and differentiating NMOSD from multiple sclerosis (MS) and other disorders can be challenging yet it is extremely important to prevent misdiagnosis, defined in this review as the incorrect diagnosis of patients who truly have NMOSD, particularly in aquaporin-4-IgG (AQP4-IgG)-seronegative cases. The heterogeneity of clinical presentations and wide range of differential diagnoses often lead to missed diagnoses of NMOSD. Misapplication of the 2015 NMOSD criteria and misinterpretation of clinical and neuroradiological findings are relevant factors associated with misdiagnosis in clinical practice.

This editorial highlights the devastating impact of the ongoing Israeli military assault in Gaza on dementia patients, whose fragile care systems have collapsed, leaving them vulnerable and without essential medical support. Through harrowing stories of displacement, medication shortages, and tragic deaths, the piece underscores the profound moral failure in protecting Gaza's most vulnerable, calling for urgent global action to address the humanitarian crisis and ensure dignity and healthcare for all affected individuals.

Copper (Cu) is a cofactor of cytochrome c oxidase (CuCOX), indispensable for aerobic mitochondrial respiration. This study reveals that advanced clear cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCCs) accumulate Cu, allocating it to CuCOX. Using a range of orthogonal approaches, including metabolomics, lipidomics, isotope-labeled glucose and glutamine flux analysis, and transcriptomics across tumor samples, cell lines, xenografts, and PDX models, combined with genetic and pharmacological interventions, we explored Cu's role in ccRCC.

The field of spatially resolved transcriptomics (SRT) has greatly advanced our understanding of cellular microenvironments by integrating spatial information with molecular data collected from multiple tissue sections or individuals. However, methods for multi-sample spatial clustering are lacking, and existing methods primarily rely on molecular information alone. This paper introduces BayeSMART, a Bayesian statistical method designed to identify spatial domains across multiple samples.

Quantitative pupillometry (QP) use has grown exponentially. Each QP scan captures images of the pupil before, during, and after light exposure to provide component measures of the pupillary light reflex (PLR). This study explores if the time to maximum constriction (tMC) is uniform among neuroscience intensive care unit (NSICU) patients.

Frailty is common among older patients with heart failure (HF). The efficacy of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on the risk of mortality among frail patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and HF is uncertain, and whether frailty burden modifies the treatment benefits of CABG among these patients is unknown. We performed a post hoc analysis of the STICHES trial, a randomized trial of CABG with medical therapy vs medical therapy alone among participants with ischemic cardiomyopathy with ejection fraction ≤ 35%.

Objective: Despite the availability of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, only a small percentage of Hispanic emergent adults in the United States have actually had the vaccination. Due to cancer fatalism, some Hispanic emerging adults may perceive fewer benefits from the HPV vaccine, regardless of its positive health effects. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between cancer fatalism, knowledge of HPV-associated cancers, and HPV vaccination among Hispanic emerging adult women.

Decades of research into the function of the medial temporal lobe has driven curiosity around clinical outcomes associated with hippocampal dysfunction, including psychosis. Post-mortem analyses of brain tissue from human schizophrenia brain show decreased expression of the NMDAR subunit GluN1 confined to the dentate gyrus with evidence of downstream hippocampal hyperactivity in CA3 and CA1. Little is known about the mechanisms of the emergence of hippocampal hyperactivity as a putative psychosis biomarker.
