The hippocampus has been implicated in various mood disorders, with global volume deficits consistently found in patient populations. The hippocampus, however, consists of anatomically distinct subfields, and examination of specific subfield differences may elucidate the possible molecular mechanisms behind psychiatric pathologies. Indeed, adult studies have reported smaller hippocampal subfield volumes in regions within the cornu ammonis (CA1 and CA4), dentate gyrus (DG), and hippocampal tails in both patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Bipolar Disorder (BD) compared to healthy controls.

Acyclovir is commonly used to prevent and treat herpes simplex virus (HSV) reactivation after hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT), and only few reports have been published on acyclovir-resistant HSV in HCT recipients. We reviewed the medical records of patients with a microbiologic diagnosis of acyclovir-resistant HSV by plaque reduction test who received an HCT from 2002 through 2014. A total of 4 028 HCTs were performed during the study period, and 18 of the recipients met the diagnostic criteria for acyclovir-resistant HSV.

Studies about changes in hippocampal volumes in subjects with bipolar disorder (BD) have been contradictory. Since the number of manic episodes and hospitalization has been associated with brain changes and poor cognitive outcomes among BD patients, we have hypothesized that these variables could clarify this issue. We stratified subjects with BD in early (BD-Early), intermediate (BD-intermediate) and late (BD-Late) stages as a function of number of manic episodes and prior hospitalization.

With the advent of digital dental radiographs, dentistry is amassing an unprecedented volume of images as electronic patient records (EPR) and dental PACS (picture archive and communication system) become more commonplace. While radiographic findings and diagnostic information are visually discerned from images, this information is not digitally associated with the images. This project will explore the formation of an online, searchable data repository of dental radiographs and associated meta information.
