The use of second-generation antipsychotics has not eliminated tardive dyskinesia (TD), and the prevalence of the disorder is higher than commonly realized. The involuntary movements of TD can decrease patients' quality of life, cause embarrassment, and lead to social withdrawal. Clinicians must evaluate patients taking DRBAs for TD risk factors and regularly screen them for TD using a rating scale.

Women constitute the majority of students at US schools and colleges of pharmacy but make up only a minority of senior faculty members. In academic pharmacy, male mentors play an essential role in supporting the professional success of female mentees. These male mentors must recognize their role in creating safe and equitable environments for female mentees to learn and collaborate.

Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is an involuntary movement disorder induced by dopamine-receptor blocking agents (DRBAs), including antipsychotics. Because the introduction of second-generation antipsychotics has reduced but not eliminated the risk for TD as had been hoped, recognizing and treating TD are important skills for clinicians. Many patients rely on DRBAs for chronic conditions.

In this work, we use 2011-2013 Texas HIV surveillance data (N=2,175) and apply hierarchical linear and Cox regression modeling to characterize the association of gender and race/ethnicity with rate of immune recovery and determine whether immune recovery contributes to gender and racial/ethnic disparities in AIDS diagnosis and survival. The associations between gender and rate of immune recovery and between race/ethnicity and rate of immune recovery were not statistically significant ( > 0.05).

Interprofessional education telephone simulation for campus-based pharmacy students and distance-learning family nurse practitioner students.

Curr Pharm Teach Learn

March 2019

Montana State University, College of Nursing, 111 Anna Pearl Sherrick Hall, Bozeman, MT 59717-3560, United States. Electronic address:

Background: Interprofessional education (IPE) is an essential component of healthcare professions' curriculum but is often difficult to provide due to scheduling issues, cost, different learning formats, and lack of access to other health care professions. To meet the school of pharmacy's need to have IPE with prescribers and the school of nursing's need to provide IPE to distance-learning students, a telephone-based IPE activity was created. The goals of the simulation activity were to provide students a forum to practice communication skills, work to maintain a climate of mutual respect, and forge interdependent relationships with another profession.

The use of the Calvert formula to calculate carboplatin doses allows clinicians to achieve the appropriate carboplatin area under the concentration (AUC) curve. Thrombocytopenia is the dose limiting toxicity of carboplatin and optimizing AUC minimizes the risk of thrombocytopenia. Carboplatin clearance directly correlates with glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and, therefore, an accurate estimation of the renal function is needed.
