Background: There are scant data on the effect of rituximab on EBV DNA levels and prevention of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) in pediatric kidney transplant recipients with EBV DNAemia.
Methods: Kidney transplant recipients with EBV DNAemia treated with rituximab to prevent PTLD between 7/1999 and 7/2019 at five pediatric centers were included. Those with confirmed PTLD at the onset of rituximab were excluded.

We identified a progenitor cell population highly enriched in samples from invasive and chemo-resistant carcinomas, characterized by a well-defined multigene signature including APOD, DCN, and LUM. This cell population has previously been labeled as consisting of inflammatory cancer-associated fibroblasts (iCAFs). The same signature characterizes naturally occurring fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) as well as stromal cells abundant in normal adipose tissue.

Lactate, an intermediary between glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, reflects the metabolic state of neurons. Here, we utilized a genetically-encoded lactate FRET biosensor to uncover subpopulations of distinct metabolic states among glutamatergic neurons. Neurons within specific subpopulations exhibited correlated lactate flux patterns that stemmed from inherent cellular properties rather than neuronal interconnectivity.

Purpose: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant disorder which commonly causes neoplasms leading to disfigurement or dysfunction. Mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibitors (MEKi) are generally well-tolerated treatments which target neural tumor progression in patients with NF1. However, cutaneous adverse events (CAEs) are common and may hinder patients' abilities to remain on treatment, particularly in children.

The prognostic impact of additional copies of chromosome 1q (1q + ) on outcomes of newly-diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) patients undergoing autologous transplantation (autoSCT) is unclear. We conducted a retrospective single-center analysis of NDMM patients with 1q21 gain/amplification (3 or ≥4 copies of 1q, respectively) that received autoSCT between 2008-2018. 213 patients were included (79% 1q gain; 21% 1q amplification).

Unlabelled: Rhenium-186 (Re) labeled nanoliposome (RNL) therapy for recurrent glioblastoma patients has shown promise to improve outcomes by locally delivering radiation to affected areas. To optimize the delivery of RNL, we have developed a framework to predict patient-specific response to RNL using image-guided mathematical models.
Methods: We calibrated a family of reaction-diffusion type models with multi-modality imaging data from ten patients (NCR01906385) to predict the spatio-temporal dynamics of each patient's tumor.

Introduction: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer therapeutics. However, immune-related adverse events (irAEs) increase morbidity and mortality and thereby limit therapeutic utility. The real-world incidence of the entire spectrum of pulmonary irAEs has not been systematically described.

Atypical and malignant cutaneous tumors are understudied in the pediatric population, with limited data on long-term follow-up. This study examines pediatric (0-18 years) atypical melanocytic proliferations over a twenty-year period (January 2002-December2022) using the EPIC SlicerDicer at our institution. Over a twenty-year period, there were 55 cases of pediatric melanoma (53 patients).

Background: The prognostic significance of minimal residual disease (MRD) status before autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (autoHCT) in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) has not been clearly elucidated.
Methods: Retrospective single-center study of adult MM patients who achieved ≥very good partial response (VGPR) after induction therapy from 2015 to 2021 received upfront autoHCT and had available pretransplant MRD status by next-generation flow cytometry. The cohort was divided into pretransplant MRD-negative (MRDneg) and MRD-positive (MRDpos) groups.

Malignant central airway obstruction (MCAO) impacts many patients with advanced primary lung cancers and metastatic disease to the thorax and may cause substantial symptoms and functional limitations in those affected. Making the diagnosis may be challenging as symptoms are often non-specific but identification is improved with a heightened level of suspicion and newer thoracic imaging modalities. Bronchoscopy plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and management of MCAO and therapeutic interventions may be lifesaving and result in palliation of symptoms.

Childhood experiences encompass both adverse and positive childhood events. Adverse childhood experiences are positively associated with binge-eating disorder characteristics and inversely associated with intuitive eating in adults. However, to what extent positive childhood experiences (PCEs) are associated with binge-eating disorder characteristics and intuitive eating remains unclear.

Racial disparities in stroke outcomes have been described for over a century. Racial and ethnic inequities in care and disparities in outcomes exist across the continuum of stroke care. In this commentary, I discuss several themes that emerged from the recent article, Strategies to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Inequities in Stroke Preparedness, Care, Recovery, and Risk Factor Control: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.

Pediatric tumors of the central nervous system are the most common cause of cancer-related death in children. The five-year survival rate for high-grade gliomas in children is less than 20%. Due to their rarity, the diagnosis of these entities is often delayed, their treatment is mainly based on historic treatment concepts, and clinical trials require multi-institutional collaborations.

Publications comparing variant caller algorithms present discordant results with contradictory rankings. Caller performances are inconsistent and wide ranging, and dependent upon input data, application, parameter settings, and evaluation metric. With no single variant caller emerging as a superior standard, combinations or ensembles of variant callers have appeared in the literature.
