Although vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants, its effect on muscle quality is not fully understood. Therefore, we hypothesized that low dietary vitamin C intake is associated with low muscle strength. To test the hypothesis, a single 24-h dietary recall and handgrip strength test of 10,883 younger adults 19-64 y and 3,961 older adults ≥65 y from the seventh Korea National Health and Examination Survey (KNHANES VII 2016-2018) was analyzed by multivariable linear and logistic regression models, and low muscle strength was defined as handgrip strength <28 kg for men and <18 kg for women.

Although the function and stability of catalysts are known to significantly depend on their dispersion state and support interactions, the mechanism of catalyst loading has not yet been elucidated. To address this gap in knowledge, this study elucidates the mechanism of Pt loading based on a detailed investigation of the interaction between Pt species and localized polarons (Ce) associated with oxygen vacancies on CeO(100) facets. Furthermore, an effective Pt loading method was proposed for achieving high catalytic activity while maintaining the stability.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), significantly influences cancer-related mortality and is frequently considered by poor therapeutic responses due to genetic alterations. Cancer cells possess an inclination to develop resistance to individual treatment modalities, thus it is necessary to investigate several pathways simultaneously to obtain insights that will aid in the establishment of improved therapeutic approaches. Exploring regulated cell death (RCD) mechanisms offers promising avenues to augment immunotherapy by reshaping the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Nosocomial infections are a serious threat and difficult to cure due to rising antibiotic resistance in pathogens and biofilms. Direct exposure to cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been widely employed in numerous biological research endeavors. Nonetheless, plasma-treated liquids (PTLs) formulated with physiological solutions may offer additional benefits such as enhanced portability, and biocompatibility.

Background: Person-centered care (PCC), an approach to healthcare that focuses on the individual needs, preferences, and values of patients, is particularly important in the context of caring for residents of nursing homes (NHs) with the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). However, implementing PCC in NHs varies widely due to individual staff, NH environment, and country factors, leading to heterogeneity in person-centered approaches.
Purpose: This study was designed to explore and gain insight into the shared subjective perspectives of nurses on providing PCC to manage BPSD in NHs in order to elicit a deeper understanding of how nurses interpret and approach the provision of PCC.

Tin(II) sulfide (SnS) has emerged as a promising candidate for visible light photocatalytic materials. As a member of the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) family, SnS features a band gap of approximately 2.20 eV and a layered structure, rendering it suitable for visible light activation with a high specific surface area.

Drawing on data from two waves of the (2010 and 2018), this study examined how community-dwelling older men and women (65+) with functional limitations utilized formal and informal sources of care and how their patterns of care utilization changed over time. The usage patterns of formal and informal caregiving services were categorized into three groups: (a) informal help only, (b) formal-informal mix, and (c) no help from either. More men and women used both formal and informal help for their care needs in 2018 than in 2010 (15% compared to 7%).

This paper investigates the effects of argon (Ar) and that of Ar mixed with ambient air (Ar-Air) cold plasma jets (CPJs) on 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) degradation using low input power. The introduction of ambient air into the Ar-Air plasma jet enhances ionization-driven processes during high-voltage discharge by utilizing nitrogen and oxygen molecules from ambient air, resulting in increased reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) production, which synergistically interacts with argon. This substantial generation of RONS establishes Ar-Air plasma jet as an effective method for treating 4-NP contamination in deionized water (DW).

This study presents an innovative solution for the enhanced tracking and security of pharmaceuticals through the development of microstructures incorporating environmentally responsive, coded microparticles. Utilizing maskless photolithography, we engineered these microparticles with a degradable masking layer with 30 m thickness that undergoes controlled dissolution. Quantitative analysis revealed that the protective layer's degradation, monitored by red fluorescence intensity, diminishes predictably over 144 h in phosphate-buffered saline under physiological conditions.

The growing demand for lightweight and durable materials in industries, such as the automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries, has spurred the development of heterojunction bilayer composites, combining the structural integrity of metals with the versatility of polymers. This study addresses the critical interface between stainless steel (SUS) and polyamide 66 (PA66), focusing on the pivotal role of surface treatments and various silane coupling agents in enhancing the adhesion strength of heterojunction SUS/PA66 bilayer composites. Through systematic surface modifications-highlighted by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and contact angle analyses-the study assessed the impact of increasing the surface area, roughness, and energy of SUS.

This work presents a simple method to create photonic microstructures via the natural evaporation of surfactant-laden colloidal sessile droplets on a flat substrate. In the absence of dissolved surfactant, the evaporating colloidal droplet forms a well-known coffee ring deposition. In contrast, the presence of surfactant leads to the formation of multiple ring structures due to the repetitive pinning-depinning behavior of the droplet contact line (CL).

Emerging bio-contaminants (airborne viruses) exploits and manipulate host (human) metabolism to produce new viral particles, evading the host's immune defences and leading to infections. Non-thermal plasma, operating at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature, is explored for virus inactivation, generating RONS that interact and denatures viral proteins. However, various factors affecting virus survival influence the efficacy of non-thermal plasma.

Tumor suppressor genes and proto-oncogenes comprise most of the complex genomic landscape associated with cancer, with a minimal number of genes exhibiting dual-context-dependent functions. The transcription factor cellular promoter 2 (TFCP2), a pivotal transcription factor encoded by the alpha globin transcription factor CP2 gene, is a constituent of the TFCP2/grainyhead family of transcription factors. While grainyhead members have been extensively studied for their crucial roles in developmental processes, embryogenesis, and multiple cancers, the TFCP2 subfamily has been relatively less explored.

Cancer metastasis is a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. The ability to detect and monitor circulating tumor cells (CTCs) offers a promising approach to early detection and management of metastasis. Although studies on epithelial markers for CTC detection are actively underway, the discovery of mesenchymal markers has not been studied sufficiently.
