Article Synopsis
  • MRI is the gold standard for prostate segmentation, while CT-based segmentation can overestimate prostate volume by about 30% and has biases due to human interpretation.
  • This study aims to achieve the accuracy of MRI-level prostate auto-segmentation using only CT images, by employing a deep learning model trained on registered CT-MRI data.
  • The proposed deep learning model outperformed commercial models, especially in the prostate apex region, showing improved geometric similarity and receiving favorable evaluations from physicians based on the quality of the CT-only segmentation.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of two procedures—peroral endoscopic myotomy with septotomy (POEM+S) and without septotomy (POEM-S)—in treating symptomatic epiphrenic diverticula (ED) alongside motility disorders.
  • Conducted across 21 international centers from 2014 to 2023, the study included 85 patients, measuring clinical success primarily through the Eckardt score.
  • Results indicated that both procedures had similar clinical success rates (83% for POEM+S vs. 86.8% for POEM-S), technical success, and adverse event rates, but POEM-S patients had a longer hospital stay.

Objective: Bilateral vocal fold paralysis (BVFP) and posterior glottic stenosis (PGS) are causes of bilateral vocal fold immobility (BVFI) and may cause shortness of breath, stridor, and need for surgical intervention. Although increased body mass index (BMI) is associated with restrictive breathing patterns in patients with normal upper airways, it is unclear how BMI impacts dyspnea and need for surgical intervention in BVFI patients.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Glass-forming liquids exhibit long-lived, spatially correlated dynamical heterogeneity, in which some nm-scale regions in the fluid relax more slowly than others. In the nanoscale vicinity of an interface, glass-formers also exhibit the emergence of massive interfacial gradients in glass transition temperature Tg and relaxation time τ. Both of these forms of heterogeneity have a major impact on material properties.
