Achieving large-scale clinician adoption of AI-enabled decision support.

Computerised decision support (CDS) tools enabled by artificial intelligence (AI) seek to enhance accuracy and efficiency of clinician decision-making at the point of care. Statistical models developed using machine learning (ML) underpin most current tools. However, despite thousands of models and hundreds of regulator-approved tools internationally, large-scale uptake into routine clinical practice has proved elusive.

Epidemiology of cruciate ligament reconstruction in the Australian Defence Force and predictors of outcome.

Background: The ability to predict the risk of poor outcome following knee cruciate ligament reconstruction in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) population would help direct individual rehabilitation programmes and workforce planning. This study describes the epidemiology of cruciate ligament reconstruction in the ADF and demonstrates the use of Bayesian networks (BN) to predict the likelihood of fitness for ongoing service under different scenarios.

Methods: Members who had knee cruciate ligament reconstruction through ADF were identified from billing data and matched to electronic medical records to extract demographic and clinical data.

Objective: To explore patient perceptions regarding doctors' information seeking during consultations.

Design And Setting: Qualitative interviews with participants from six general practice waiting rooms in South East Queensland, Australia. Participants were asked about their experiences and opinions, and to comment on short videos of simulated consultations in which a doctor sought information.

Parkinsonism and prolonged cognitive decline as a manifestation of cryptococcal meningitis in a renal transplant patient.

We report a case of a 67-year-old male recipient of a second renal allograft, presenting with a 9-month history of progressive cognitive and physical decline with features of Parkinsonism. He was HIV-negative. Serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cryptococcal antigen was positive though CSF culture was sterile.

Intracranial perianeurysmal cysts: case series and review of the literature.

Background: Intracranial perianeurysmal cysts are a rare finding associated with cerebral aneurysms. Patients may present with symptoms secondary to mass effect from perianeurysmal cysts requiring drainage. These lesions can masquerade as neoplasms if dedicated vascular imaging is not performed, leading to misdiagnosis.

Teaching medical students remotely during a pandemic - what can psychiatry offer?

Objective: The clinical teaching of psychiatry to medical students throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has presented opportunities for support, engagement and learning above and beyond usual practice. Like other teaching faculties, we needed to quickly adapt the course material to an online platform. However, for psychiatric teaching, it was also essential to find alternatives to patient interviewing, and to provide support and containment in uncertain times.

Trends in opioid prescribing in Australia: a systematic review.

Objective This review systematically identified studies that estimated the prevalence of prescription opioid use in Australia, assessed the prevalence estimates for bias and identified areas for future research. Methods Literature published after 2000 containing a potentially representative estimate of prescription opioid use in adults, in the community setting, in Australia was included in this review. Studies that solely assessed opioid replacement, illicit opioid usage or acute hospital in-patient use were excluded.
