In this study, we compared the genomes of three metal-resistant bacteria isolated from mercury-contaminated soil. We identified diverse and novel MGEs with evidence of multiple LGT events shaping their genomic structure and heavy metal resistance. Among the three metal-resistant strains, Sphingobium sp SA2 and Sphingopyxis sp SE2 were resistant to multiple metals including mercury, cadmium, copper, zinc and lead.

Background: A questionnaire developed in one language must be translated and adapted when it will be used with patients speaking a different language and care should be taken to maintain equivalence between the source language (SL) version and its translated version. The objective of this study was to test the linguistic and cultural validity of a Nepali language version of the Supportive Care Need Survey - Short Form 34 (SCNS-SF34) used with the Nepali population.

The Inhibitory Effects of Hydroxytyrosol, α-Tocopherol and Ascorbyl Palmitate on Lipid Peroxidation in Deep-Fat Fried Seafood.

This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of hydroxytyrosol, α-tocopherol and ascorbyl palmitate on lipid peroxidation in squid, hoki and prawn during deep-fat frying and refrigerated storage. Fatty acid analysis using gas chromatography (GC) showed that the seafood had a high omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 PUFAs) content, including docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The total content of n-3 fatty acids in their lipids was 46% (squid), 36% (hoki) and 33% (prawn), although they all had low lipid contents.

In this study, we examined factors influencing the environmental behaviour of Be, specifically considering soils collected from a legacy radioactive waste disposal site near Sydney (Australia). The precipitation study showed the formation of Be(OH) (amorphous) from ICP standard solution, but a mixture of Be(OH) (alpha), Be(OH) (beta) and ternary Na/S-Be (ΙΙ)-OH(s) solid phase were formed from BeSO solutions. The precipitation of Be started at relatively lower pH at higher concentrations than at the lower Be concentration as indicated by both laboratory data and simulation.

Desorption and Migration Behavior of Beryllium from Contaminated Soils: Insights for Risk-Based Management.

Factors influencing the desorption, distribution, and vertical migration behavior of Be in contaminated soils are not fully understood. This study examined the desorption and migration of Be in a soil profile from a legacy radioactive waste disposal site using different batch leaching [monofilled waste extraction procedure (MWEP); synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP); simulated acid rain solution (SARS); and toxicity characteristic leaching procedure] and sequential leaching [community bureau of reference (BCR)] methods for insights relevant to the application of risk-based management. The results showed that Be desorption was higher in the presence of organic than the inorganic leachate composition (MWEP < SPLP < SARS < TCLP < BCR first-step).

This study investigated contamination status of eight trace elements (As, Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb, Cu, Zn and Ni) in farmland soils and crops at 535 sites across the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China. Land use types of the sampling sites included vegetable patch, grain field and orchard.
