Coronary artery bypass grafting is among the most commonly performed of all cardiovascular surgical procedures. However, graft failure due to stenosis reduces the long-term benefit of the intervention. This study asks if elevating plasma high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels by inhibition of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) activity with des-fluoro-anacetrapib, an analog of the CETP inhibitor anacetrapib, prevents vein bypass-induced neointimal hyperplasia.

The large-scale application of electrochemical reduction of CO, as a viable strategy to mitigate the effects of anthropogenic climate change, is hindered by the lack of active and cost-effective electrocatalysts that can be generated in bulk. To this end, SnO nanoparticles that are prepared using the industrially adopted flame spray pyrolysis (FSP) technique as active catalysts are reported for the conversion of CO to formate (HCOO), exhibiting a FE of 85% with a current density of -23.7 mA cm at an applied potential of -1.

Sodium borohydride (NaBH) is an attractive hydrogen carrier owing to its reactivity with water: it can generate 4 equivalents of H by hydrolysis (NaBH + 4HO → NaB(OH) + 4H). Since using NaBH in the solid state is the most favorable way to achieve a high gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity (theoretical maximum of 7.3 wt%), we have investigated the possibility of developing a core@shell nanocomposite (NaBH@Ni) where a metallic nickel catalyst facilitating the hydrolysis is directly supported onto NaBH nanoparticles.

Bacterial communities can have an important influence on the function of their eukaryotic hosts. However, how microbiomes are formed and the influence that specific bacteria have in shaping these communities is not well understood. Here, we used the marine diatom Thalassiosira rotula and the algal associated bacterium Phaeobacter inhibens as a model system to explore these questions.

There is an increasing interest in the utilisation of marine bioactive compounds as novel biopharmaceuticals and agrichemicals; however, little is known about the environmental distribution for many of these molecules. Here, we aimed to elucidate the environmental distribution and to detect the biosynthetic gene clusters in environmental samples of four bioactive compounds, namely violacein, tropodithietic acid (TDA), tambjamine and the antibacterial protein AlpP. Our database analyses revealed high bacterial diversity for AlpP and violacein producers, while TDA-producing bacteria were mostly associated with marine surfaces and all belonged to the roseobacter group.

The proposed work aims at designing a classification system for automatic identification of species, grown as a potential cash crop in many Asian countries, from the DNA fingerprints of genus. Four sets of 48 DNA fingerprints belonging to 37 species of the genus, developed with the help of four different primers are considered for the experiment, with an objective to identify only the fingerprints of the species of interest. A second experimental setup deals with the automatic classification of species containing high amounts of glucomannan from the same set of DNA fingerprints of the genus.
