: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system characterized by progressive impairment of neuronal transmission due to focal demyelination. The most common form is RRMS (relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis), which, under the influence of certain factors, can progress to SPMS (secondary progressive multiple sclerosis). Our study aimed to validate the criteria proposed by a working group of the Romanian Society of Neurology versus the criteria proposed by a group of experts from Spain, Karolinska, and Croatia concerning the progression from RRMS to SPMS.

Due to their indisputable biocompatibility and abundant source, biopolymers are widely used to prepare hydrogels for skin tissue engineering. Among them, cellulose is a great option for this challenging application due to its increased water retention capacity, mechanical strength, versatility and unlimited availability. Since algae are an unexploited source of cellulose, the novelty of this study is the decellularization of two different species, freshly collected from the Black Sea coast, using two different chemical surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulphate and Triton X-100), and characterisation of the resulted complex biopolymeric 3D matrices.

Background: Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), the third most frequent histological type of thyroid malignancy, may be found isolated or as part of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2). One particular subtype of this autosomal dominant-transmitted syndrome includes an association with cutaneous lichen amyloidosis, although, generally, a tide genotype-phenotype correlation is described in patients who carry proto-oncogene pathogenic variants.
Methods: Our objective was to provide an endocrine perspective of a case series diagnosed with -positive familial MTC associated with cutaneous primary lichen amyloidosis amid the confirmation of MEN2.

Complete myocardial revascularization, targeting both culprit and non-culprit coronary stenoses, is recommended by current guidelines in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) management, either during the index percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedure or within 45 days, depending on the clinical context. However, in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), fractional flow reserve (FFR) presents unique challenges. Altered coronary physiology in CKD, such as arterial stiffness and microcirculatory dysfunction, affects FFR accuracy, complicating revascularization decisions.

Gastric cancer continues to be a significant issue for public health, marked by its widespread occurrence and high mortality rates, even as the incidence of the disease shows a declining trend. The liver is the primary site for metastatic spread, with the peritoneum, lungs, and bones also being common targets. With the advent of biologic treatments and the introduction of immunotherapy for patients with metastatic conditions, the options to treat metastatic gastric cancer have expanded.

Metastases are the most common tumors of the spine. As an important increase in the annual incidence of spinal metastases (SMs) has been observed in the last decade, the aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology and histopathological types of SMs surgically treated in the Neurosurgery Clinics of a Regional Hospital in North-Eastern Romania over a period of five years, in order to define a certain tumor profile that would benefit from an early screening. We retrospectively evaluated 115 adult patients, searching for demographic data (gender and age of the patients), primary tumor characteristics (location and histological type), topography of the SMs, and the time interval between the diagnosis of the primary tumor and the surgery for the SMs.

IL-6 remains a key molecule of the cytokine storms characterizing COVID-19, exerting both proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects. Emerging research underscores the significance of IL-6 trans-signaling over classical signaling pathways, which has shifted the focus of therapeutic strategies. Additionally, the synergistic action of TNF-α and IFN-γ has been found to induce inflammatory cell death through PANoptosis, further amplifying the severity of cytokine storms.
