Objective: Rice, one of the first solid foods introduced to infants, is 10 times more absorbent of inorganic arsenic than any other grain. An evaluation has not been performed about practitioner knowledge of arsenic content in infant foods. The purpose of this survey was to determine pediatric practitioners' knowledge of current US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommendations to limit exposure to arsenic-containing foods in infants.

Congenital clefts of the lip and/or palate are among the most common craniofacial malformations. Patients with bilateral cleft of the lip often present with projected premaxilla. Premaxillary setback with a vomerine ostectomy posterior to the vomero-premaxillary suture, bilateral cleft lip repair, bilateral gingivoperiosteoplasties, and primary cleft lip rhinoplasty are achieved in a single-stage surgery that provides a valuable alternative to patients, especially in the outreach settings.

In May 2020, Baltimore City, Maryland, implemented the Lord Baltimore Triage, Respite, and Isolation Center (LBTC), a multiagency COVID-19 isolation and quarantine site tailored for people experiencing homelessness. In the first year, 2020 individuals were served, 78% completed isolation at LBTC, and 6% were transferred to a hospital. Successful isolation can mitigate outbreaks in shelters and residential recovery programs, and planning for sustainable isolation services integrated within these settings is critical as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Background: Comprehensive cleft care is a multidisciplinary team endeavor. While untreated craniofacial conditions have multiple undue repercussions, cleft care in outreach settings can be fraught with significant perioperative morbidity risks.
Aim: Propose updated quality assurance standards addressing logistic and operational considerations essential for the delivery of safe and effective cleft lip and /or palate (CL/P) care in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) settings.

Introduction: We analyzed the perceptions of participants and faculty members in simulation-based comprehensive cleft care workshops regarding comprehensive cleft care delivery in developing countries.
Methods: Data were collected from participants and faculty members in 2 simulation-based comprehensive cleft care workshops organized by Global Smile Foundation. We collected demographic data and surveyed what they believed was the most significant barrier to comprehensive cleft care delivery and the most important intervention to deliver comprehensive cleft care in developing countries.

Introduction: The authors analyzed the insights of participants and faculty members of Global Smile Foundation's Comprehensive Cleft Care Workshops concerning the barriers and interventions to multidisciplinary cleft care delivery, after stratification based on demographic and geographic factors.
Methods: During 2 simulation-based Comprehensive Cleft Care Workshops organized by Global Smile Foundation, participants and faculty members filled a survey. Surveys included demographic and geographic data and investigated the most relevant barrier to multidisciplinary cleft care and the most significant intervention to deliver comprehensive cleft care in outreach settings, as perceived by participants.

Unlabelled: Due to the high complication rate of panniculectomies, preoperative risk stratification is imperative. This study aimed to assess the predictive value of the 5-item modified frailty index (mFI-5) for postoperative complications in the elderly following panniculectomy.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database for patients over the age of 65 years who underwent a panniculectomy between 2010 and 2015 was conducted.

Purpose: To develop a head and neck normal structures autocontouring tool that could be used to automatically detect the errors in autocontours from a clinically validated autocontouring tool.
Methods: An autocontouring tool based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) was developed for 16 normal structures of the head and neck and tested to identify the contour errors from a clinically validated multiatlas-based autocontouring system (MACS). The computed tomography (CT) scans and clinical contours from 3495 patients were semiautomatically curated and used to train and validate the CNN-based autocontouring tool.

Background: The American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination (ABSITE), is an annual 250 question, multiple-choice test that assesses residents' surgical knowledge in preparation for board examinations. At our program, we developed a Surgical Council on Resident Education-based American Board Style Practice In-Training Examination: The ABSPITE. The 40-question examination was designed to help with test preparation.

Background: Small (<30 cm) soft tissue defects of the distal leg, foot, and ankle pose a complicated issue with regard to wound healing. Multiple flaps have been proposed for reconstruction of these wounds with varying levels of success. The medial femoral condyle flap is a free bone flap supplied by the descending geniculate artery.

A 19-year-old woman who underwent conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy with Medpor-Coated Tear Drain 2 years ago presented with diplopia on left gaze for 4 months. Limitation of extraocular movement of OS on left gaze was observed on duction test. The forced duction test revealed restriction of the left medial rectus muscle.

Bile acids alter regulatory pathways in several cell types. The molecular basis for these actions is not fully elucidated, but lithocholyltaurine interacts functionally with muscarinic receptors on gastric chief cells. In the present report, we demonstrate selective interaction of bile acids with Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells expressing each of the five muscarinic receptors.

Cold agglutinins (CAs) are autoantibodies that react reversibly with red blood cells (RBCs) at temperatures of, or below, the thermal amplitude for agglutination. This results in increased blood viscosity and sludging of RBC, and may impair perfusion to various organ systems. Although this phenomenon appears rarely in the clinical arena, the incidence of CA is increased substantially in cardiac surgery due to the routine use of hypothermia for organ preservation and systemic metabolic reduction.

The standard medical therapy for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia is still alpha-blockers and 5alpha-reductase inhibitors. Ongoing studies demonstrate the long-term safety and efficacy of these two classes of therapeutic approaches. Although there have been no new Food and Drug Administration approved medical therapies for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia over the past year, interest in and the use of phytotherapeutic agents continues to increase.

Background: The purpose of the present study was to compare the rate of short-term wound complications associated with rotational flaps and that associated with free flaps for coverage of traumatic soft-tissue defects about the tibia.
Methods: Of 601 patients prospectively enrolled in a multicenter study of high-energy trauma of the lower extremity, 190 patients (195 limbs) required flap coverage and had six months of follow-up. The injury data included the ASIF/OTA classification of the tibial fracture and the soft-tissue injury and the functional status of the neurovascular and muscular structures of the soft-tissue compartments at the time of soft-tissue coverage.

Background: From 1989 to 1997, 1507 fractures of the shaft of the femur were treated with intramedullary nailing at The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Fifty-nine (4 percent) of those fractures were treated with early external fixation followed by planned conversion to intramedullary nail fixation. This two-stage stabilization protocol was selected for patients who were critically ill and poor candidates for an immediate intramedullary procedure or who required expedient femoral fixation followed by repair of an ipsilateral vascular injury.
