Large population-based registries, such as the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Registry, help in the study of rare tumors, including medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), but lack data to understand the natural history of the disease. The Medullary Thyroid Cancer Collaborative Registry (MTCCoRe) is an exhaustive multi-institutional collection of demographic, clinical, and pathological data. To determine the extent to which MTCCoRe represents the real-world MTC population, we compared the characteristics of patients enrolled in MTCCoRe with patients enrolled in population-based cancer registries.

Provider recommendation of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among adolescents has steadily improved over the years, however, limited research has been conducted to examine if the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted this positive trend in parent-reported provider recommendation among minority adolescents. Therefore, we conducted the present study to determine if there is an association between the pandemic and parent-reported provider recommendation of HPV vaccine among non-Hispanic black and Hispanic adolescents. We also examined whether any changes in parent-reported provider recommendation in the years 2019, 2020, and 2021 differed by race or ethnicity.

Extrauterine mesonephric-like carcinoma (ExUMLC) shares histologic, immunohistochemical (IHC), and molecular (MOL) features with endometrial mesonephric-like carcinoma (EnMLC). Its rarity and histologic overlap with Mullerian carcinomas contribute to underrecognition of ExUMLC. Aggressive behavior of EnMLC is well-documented; behavior of ExUMLC is yet to be characterized.

Bulk high-throughput omics data contain signals from a mixture of cell types. Recent developments of deconvolution methods facilitate cell type-specific inferences from bulk data. Our real data exploration suggests that differential expression or methylation status is often correlated among cell types.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematologic malignancy with poor outcomes with conventional therapy. Nearly 100% of BPDCNs overexpress interleukin 3 receptor subunit alpha (CD123). Given that CD123 is differentially expressed on the surface of BPDCN cells, it has emerged as an attractive therapeutic target.

This first-in-human (FIH), phase I, multicenter, open-label study was conducted to characterize the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy, and to establish the MTD/recommended dose for expansion (RDE) of PCA062 in patients with solid tumors. Adult patients with any solid tumor type and having a documented P-cadherin-positive tumor were enrolled; exceptions to P-cadherin positivity requirement were head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Dose escalation was guided by an adaptive Bayesian logistic regression model with escalation with overdose control to determine the MTD/RDE.

Syncytial variant nodular sclerosis Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is a variant that was described over 40 years ago but has received relatively little attention in the literature. Earlier studies emphasized the predominance of Hodgkin (also known as lacunar) and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells in this variant. Here we emphasize that the HRS cells in syncytial variant nodular sclerosis HL have a cohesive appearance, form confluent sheets, and have an immunophenotype typical of classic HL.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) causes 10% of cancers among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected people in the United States. Because Hispanics are disproportionally affected by the HIV epidemic and by infection-related cancers, this study compared incidence rates for HPV-related cancers and survival between Hispanics and non-Hispanic whites (NHWs) and non-Hispanic blacks (NHBs) in the HIV-infected US population.
Methods: Based on data from the HIV/AIDS Cancer Match Study, standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) were used to estimate cancer risk in HIV-infected Hispanics and the general US Hispanic population.

Follicular lymphoma (FL) and marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) are two subtypes of indolent B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) that account for approximately 20% and 12% of all NHLs, respectively. FL and MZL are rare conditions with orphan disease designations. We conducted a comprehensive review of the burden of FL and MZL that encompasses the epidemiological, real world clinical, economic, and humanistic impact of these diseases globally.

Patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) experiencing early therapy failure (ETF) within 2 years of frontline chemoimmunotherapy have poor overall survival (OS). We analyzed data from the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) and the National LymphoCare Study (NLCS) to determine whether autologous hematopoietic cell transplant (autoHCT) can improve outcomes in this high-risk FL subgroup. ETF was defined as failure to achieve at least partial response after frontline chemoimmunotherapy or lymphoma progression within 2 years of frontline chemoimmunotherapy.

Purpose: Adjuvant radiation after breast-conserving surgery remains the standard-of-care treatment for patients with ductal carcinoma in situ and early-stage invasive breast cancer. Multiple alternatives to standard whole-breast irradiation exist including accelerated partial-breast irradiation (APBI). Therefore, the purpose of this APBI guideline is to provide updated data for clinicians as well as recommendations regarding appropriate patient selection and techniques to deliver APBI.

Aim: The purpose of the present study was to determine whether genes involved in the organization of the hematopoietic niche were dysregulated in patients with primary myelofibrosis (MF) treated with lenalidomide.
Materials And Methods: We used reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction to study the expression of a set of genes involved in the organization of the hematopoietic niche in peripheral blood and bone marrow (BM) mononuclear cell (MNC) samples from 32 patients with primary MF who participated in a phase II trial of lenalidomide plus prednisone.
Results: At baseline (before treatment) cyclo-oxygenase 2 (COX2) was significantly up-regulated, while chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 4 (CXCR4), paired box 5 (PAX5) C-terminus, and hypoxia inducible factor 1A (HIF1A) were significantly down-regulated in BM MNCs from patients with primary MF compared to BM MNCs from healthy individuals.

To contribute to devise successful beta-cell differentiation strategies for the cure of Type 1 diabetes we sought to uncover barriers that restrict endocrine fate acquisition by studying the role of the transcriptional repressor REST in the developing pancreas. Rest expression is prevented in neurons and in endocrine cells, which is necessary for their normal function. During development, REST represses a subset of genes in the neuronal differentiation program and Rest is down-regulated as neurons differentiate.
