Cognitive flexibility relies on hierarchically structured task representations that organize task contexts, relevant environmental features, and subordinate decisions. Despite ongoing interest in the human thalamus, its role in cognitive control has been understudied. This study explored thalamic representation and thalamocortical interactions that contribute to hierarchical cognitive control in humans.

Background: The p.Arg218Gln (R218Q) mutation in the inverted formin 2 (INF2) gene causes podocytopathy prone to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). This mutation disrupts the ability of INF2 to sequester DYNLL1, thus promoting dynein-mediated mistrafficking of the slit diaphragm protein, nephrin, to proteolytic pathways.

Importance: Huntington disease (HD) is characterized by motor, cognitive, and psychiatric decline. β-Blockers may play a therapeutic role by decreasing enhanced sympathetic tone in HD.
Objective: To evaluate the impact of β-blockers on the timing of motor diagnosis onset and progression of HD symptoms.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the existing evidence regarding the effectiveness of strategies aimed at combating ageism against older adults among dental students.
Methods: A systematic review was performed following preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to identify articles from seven electronic databases: MEDLINE via the PubMed interface, Embase, Age-Line, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Cochrane.
Results: Among twenty-four references reporting on ageism among oral health care providers and/or students, only two reported on the outcomes of strategies for combating ageism at dental schools, with a 12-year gap between them.

Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of vision loss in working adults, with disproportionate impact on women with lowered estrogen. Sex hormones and their receptors are significant to neuroprotection of the inner blood-retinal barrier (iBRB), a tissue that regulates transport across the neuroretina and vasculature. Moreover, high glucose levels in diabetes lead to the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which promote inflammation and iBRB breakdown to result in vision loss.

The separation of lignocellulose into lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose without significantly altering the chemical structures of these component biopolymers remains a modern chemical challenge. Lignin, in particular, has potential as a highly valuable feedstock material but remains underutilized due to the difficulty of generating lignin with low modification and condensation. This work investigates the lignin-rich solids ("boron lignin") generated from a previously reported boron Lewis acid-mediated lignocellulose separation and concludes that (1) boron Lewis acid extraction removes 80-85% of carbohydrates from the original lignocellulose sample, and (2) the resulting lignin possesses a low condensation level and high similarity to native lignin structure.

Objectives: This study investigated the relationships between the cochlear nerve (CN) health and sentence-level speech perception outcomes measured in quiet and noise in postlingually deafened adult cochlear implant (CI) users.
Design: Study participants included 24 postlingually deafened adult CI users with a Cochlear Nucleus device. For each participant, only one ear was tested.

Background/objectives: Inadequate fluid intake is prevalent among older adults living in care settings and can lead to dehydration-related events such as falls and hospitalization. Staff knowledge and confidence using diverse strategies is needed to provide adequate hydration to residents. PROMOTE is a multicomponent intervention designed to support staff to increase resident fluid intake between meals.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the color stability of bulk-fill flowable resin composites with 2 difference shades at baseline and after artificial aging.
Methods: Disk-shaped specimens (Ø10 × 4 mm) were fabricated from three bulk-fill flowable resin resin composites (Filtek Bulk-Fill Flow, Venus Bulk-Fill Flow, and Estelite Bulk-Fill Flow). The specimens in each bulk-fill resin composite group were divided into two subgroups (n = 10 per subgroup) with two different shades, A1 (N = 30) and A3 (N = 30), and were polymerized with light curing (800 mW/cm/Valo LED Unit, Ultradent) and polished.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the gingival vascular response to mechanical compression during inflammation using ultrasonography. Four female and 4 male Sinclair mini pigs 18 mo of age were included in the study. Pathogenic bacteria-impregnated silk ligatures were placed around the third premolars (PM3), fourth premolars (PM4), and first molars (M1).

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

In post-liver transplant patients, esophagitis presents a diagnostic and management challenge due to the potential for opportunistic infections. This case describes a 59-year-old female with primary sclerosing cholangitis who underwent orthotopic liver transplantation six years prior. She presented with dysphagia, and her medical history included immunosuppression with prednisone, tacrolimus, and mycophenolate and a history of achalasia treated with esophageal peroral endoscopic myotomy.

Objective: We evaluate change in low back pain (LBP) intensity and interference as the mechanism by which chiropractic care affects other biopsychosocial factors in US active-duty military members.
Design: We conducted secondary, exploratory mediation analysis of pragmatic, multisite, clinical trial (NCT01692275) post results using natural effect modeling. Mediators were the 6-week values of Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS)-29 pain interference and intensity.

The importance of interactions between child temperament and parenting has been accepted ever since Thomas and Chess (1977) proposed their "goodness-of-fit" construct, but over the last three decades, pertinent research has grown exponentially. Researchers examining child characteristics that can moderate the effects of socialization have tested increasingly complex, nuanced, and sophisticated models, largely inspired by the highly influential frameworks of child plasticity or differential susceptibility (Belsky & Pluess, 2009). Yet, multiple questions remain unsettled.

Background: RhoA GTPases play critical roles in actin cytoskeletal remodeling required for controlling a diverse range of cellular functions including cell proliferation, adhesion, migration and changes in cell shape, all required for cutaneous wound healing. RhoA cycles between an active GTP-bound and an inactive GDP-bound form, a process regulated by guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) and GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs). ARHGAP29 is a GAP expressed in skin keratinocytes and is decreased in the absence of interferon regulator factor 6, a critical regulator of cell proliferation, migration, and wound healing.

In this study, it was aimed to assess the microstructural changes in the main central auditory pathway in cases with subjective tinnitus. In total, 101 subjects (52 cases with bilateral subjective non-pulsatile tinnitus and 49 healthy cases as the control group) were included in the study. Participants underwent pure tone audiogram and Diffusion Tensor Imaging-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DTI-MRI) examination with a 3 Tesla MRI device.
