PTSD and CPTSD in the new ICD-11 - A latent profile analysis.

In the 11th version of the WHO´s International Classification of Diseases, complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) is newly recognized as a variant of PTSD, characterized by additional and more severe symptoms and typically arising from prolonged or multiple traumatic experiences. Despite recent research supporting the differentiation between PTSD and CPTSD, studies also identify a third or even a fourth latent profile in trauma patients. This study employs latent profile analysis to identify the number of latent profiles within a clinical trauma population in Germany (N = 588) and aims to investigate their distinct symptomatology.

Partial adrenalectomy by the posterior retroperitoneoscopic approach: A single institution series of 766 consecutive procedures.

Background: Partial adrenalectomy (PA), as an alternative to total adrenalectomy in selected cases, allows for the preservation of adrenocortical function, especially in hereditary and/or bilateral diseases. In this study, we analyze our experience in posterior retroperitoneoscopic PA (PRPA) and its impact on adrenocortical function.

Evaluation of E-Cigarette Use in Opioid-Dependent Patients in Maintenance Treatment.

Introduction: As tobacco smoking decreases, the use of e-cigarettes is on the rise. There is a debate whether switching from smoking to the use of e-cigarettes might represent a harm reduction strategy for those who smoke tobacco heavily, a habit often observed in individuals with opioid dependence. The present study investigated the prevalence and patterns of tobacco smoking and e-cigarette use in patients in opioid maintenance treatment (OMT) and whether e-cigarette use contributed to the cessation of smoking tobacco.

Background: Direct acting antivirals (DAAs) as a curative treatment of hepatitis C have been available for several years and have replaced interferon-containing therapies. However, treatment rates of people who inject drugs (PWID) are declining in Germany, putting the elimination of hepatitis C by 2030 at risk. This study aimed at elucidating the knowledge of, and attitude towards, hepatitis C treatment in a clinical sample of PWID.

Background: There are only few publications on long-term treatments for major depressive disorder (MDD) lasting 5 years or longer. Ex vivo expansion of human CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells remains a challenge due to rapid differentiation after detachment from the bone marrow niche. In this study, we assessed the capacity of an inducible fusion protein to enable sustained ex vivo proliferation of hematopoietic precursors and their capacity to differentiate into functional phagocytes. We fused the coding sequences of an FK506-Binding Protein 12 (FKBP12)-derived destabilization domain (DD) to the myeloid/lymphoid lineage leukemia/eleven nineteen leukemia (MLL-ENL) fusion gene to generate the fusion protein DD-MLL-ENL and retrovirally expressed the protein switch in human CD34+ progenitors.

Background: Early identification of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and advancing kidney insufficiency, followed by specialist care, can decelerate the progression of the disease. However, awareness of the importance and possible consequences of kidney insufficiency is low among doctors and patients. Since kidney insufficiency can be asymptomatic even in higher stages, it is often not even known to those belonging to risk groups.

Phenibutan—an Illegal Food Supplement With Psychotropic Effects and Health Risks.

Background: Phenibut (β-phenyl-γ-aminobutyric acid) is an analog of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Like abapentin and pregabalin, it inhibits α2-δ-subunits of voltagedependent presynaptic calcium channels. The potential harm resulting from the use of these gabapentinoids is currently a matter of debate.

Effectiveness of Medical Cannabis for the Treatment of Depression: A Naturalistic Outpatient Study.

Background: There is a lack of studies on the course and effectiveness of medical cannabis in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD).

Methods: Retrospective longitudinal (18 weeks) study of n=59 outpatients with MDD, treated with medical cannabis via a telemedical platform. Previous treatment with antidepressant medication was required for inclusion into the study.

Background: The strengthening of interdisciplinary care collaboration in Parkinson's disease is taking on increasing importance in daily medical routine. Therefore, care providers worldwide are organizing themselves in disease-specific regional network structures. Patient Perspectives on Pharmacotherapy of Alcohol Dependence.

Introduction: Pharmacotherapy with drugs like naltrexone or acamprosate is a well-evaluated element in the treatment of alcohol dependence (AD). However, in many countries, these medications are rarely administered. The objective of the present study was to identify from patients' perspective factors that prevent the initiation and compliance with pharmacological treatment of AD.

Five-year follow-up of 96 weeks peginterferon plus tenofovir disoproxil fumarate in hepatitis D.

Background & Aims: Until recently, pegylated interferon-alfa-2a (PEG-IFNa) therapy was the only treatment option for patients infected with hepatitis D virus (HDV). Treatment with PEG-IFNa with or without tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) for 96 weeks resulted in HDV RNA suppression in 44% of patients at the end of therapy but did not prevent short-term relapses within 24 weeks. The virological and clinical long-term effects after prolonged PEG-IFNa-based treatment of hepatitis D are unknown.

Opiate maintenance patients' attitudes and self-reported adherence to protective measures against SARS-CoV-2 infections.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic we assessed to which extent patients in opioid maintenance treatment (OMT) adhere to official recommendations regarding preventive intervention strategies against COVID-19.

Methods: Patients enrolled in two OMT clinics in Germany were interviewed applying a standardized questionnaire, which covered socio-demographic information, recent psychotropic substance use, recent social activities, the history of SARS-CoV-2 infection, attitudes toward official protection recommendations, and levels of adherence to these suggestions. Current mental and medical diagnoses were retrieved from medical files.

The measurement of quality indicators supports quality improvement initiatives. The German Interdisciplinary Society of Intensive Care Medicine (DIVI) has published quality indicators for intensive care medicine for the fourth time now. After a scheduled evaluation after three years, changes in several indicators were made.

Interpersonal problems and recognition of facial emotions in healthy individuals.

Background: Recognition of emotions in faces is important for successful social interaction. Results from previous research based on clinical samples suggest that difficulties in identifying threat-related or negative emotions can go along with interpersonal problems. The present study examined whether associations between interpersonal difficulties and emotion decoding ability can be found in healthy individuals.

Voice Patterns as Markers of Schizophrenia: Building a Cumulative Generalizable Approach Via a Cross-Linguistic and Meta-analysis Based Investigation.

Background And Hypothesis: Voice atypicalities are potential markers of clinical features of schizophrenia (eg, negative symptoms). A recent meta-analysis identified an acoustic profile associated with schizophrenia (reduced pitch variability and increased pauses), but also highlighted shortcomings in the field: small sample sizes, little attention to the heterogeneity of the disorder, and to generalizing findings to diverse samples and languages.

Study Design: We provide a critical cumulative approach to vocal atypicalities in schizophrenia, where we conceptually and statistically build on previous studies.
