With an incidence of more than > 1,000,000/day, sexually transmitted diseases remain a major challenge for health care systems worldwide. To reduce disease burden, complications, and spread, rapid diagnosis permitting early therapy is pivotal. The range of pathogens is wide and co-infections are common.

A line of contacting hard spheres, placed in a transverse confining potential, buckles under compression or when tilted away from the horizontal, once a critical tilt angle is exceeded. This interesting nonlinear problem is enriched by the combined application of both compression and tilt. In a continuous formulation, the profile of transverse sphere displacement is well described by numerical solutions of a second-order differential equation (provided that buckling is not of large amplitude).

Objective: To assess the cost of implementation, delivery and cost-effectiveness (CE) of a flagship community-based integrated care model (OPEN ARCH) against the usual primary care.
Design: A 9-month stepped-wedge cluster-randomised trial.
Setting And Participants: Community-dwelling older adults with chronic conditions and complex care needs were recruited from primary care (14 general practices) in Far North Queensland, Australia.

Herein the synthesis of 1,8-naphthalimides functionalised as the 3,4-dihydroxy-1,8-naphthalimide (catechol, Nap-Cat) and the corresponding 15-crown-5 (Nap-Crown) is reported. These compounds represent the first examples where these two recognition groups are directly incorporated into the 1,8-naphthalimide ring system. Both Nap-Cat and Nap-Crown were evaluated for their capacity to respond to analytes such as HO (a mimic for cellular oxidation) and metal ions (as elements of environmental and physiological interest).

Healthcare is increasingly delivered closer to the patients' homes, which increases the level of responsibility that patients and informal carers take for managing their medication-taking, although this is associated with hazards. Medication self-management has been conceptualised as work taking place in non-formal settings ( , households), which are complex systems. Human factors and ergonomics (HFE) models provide a framework for studying such systems.

Unlabelled: WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Traditionally, treatment for eating disorders (EDs) has been provided on an inpatient or outpatient basis, but more recently other levels of treatment provision to include, day care (DC) and community outreach programmes, have been developed. There is limited research exploring the experience of patients who have transitioned from inpatient ED treatment to a remote DC treatment. This lack of knowledge can impact mental health nurses' understanding of what that experience is like for patients and hence may influence the efficacy of collaboration and inclusion between patients and nurses.

Background: Detecting impaired naming capacity contributes to the detection of mild (MildND) and major (MajorND) neurocognitive disorder due to Alzheimer's disease (AD). The Test for Finding Word retrieval deficits (WoFi) is a new, 50-item, auditory stimuli-based instrument.
Objective: The study aimed to adapt WoFi to the Greek language, to develop a short version of WoFi (WoFi-brief), to compare the item frequency and the utility of both instruments with the naming subtest of the widely used Addenbrooke's cognitive examination III (ACEIIINaming) in detecting MildND and MajorND due to AD.

Objective: To co-design a website aimed to empower youth to ask questions to encourage productive, meaningful conversations with their health care providers.
Methods: The research team recruited adolescent stakeholders (ages 11-17) through flyers distributed at local Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) locations, clinics, and school nurses. Eleven adolescents who had at least one chronic medical condition were selected as members of the two youth advisory boards.

Although clinically effective, the actions of IFNα, either produced endogenously or by therapeutic delivery, remain poorly understood. Emblematic of this research gap is the disparate array of notable side effects that occur in susceptible individuals, such as neuropsychiatric consequences, autoimmune phenomena, and infectious complications. We hypothesised that these complications are driven at least in part by dysregulated cellular metabolism.

The COVID-19 pandemic linked to the virus SARS-CoV-2, which began in China, affected ∼765 million people as of 30 April 2023. The widespread use of corticosteroids for the symptomatic treatment of COVID-19 could lead to the reactivation of infections of opportunistic pathogens, including Strongyloides. We sought to determine the clinical symptoms and demographic characteristics of SARS-CoV-2-Strongyloides co-infection, particularly in patients with severe disease and being treated with immunosuppressive drugs.

Background: Deviation from a normal bite can be defined as malocclusion. Orthodontic treatment takes 20 months on average to correct malocclusion. Accelerating the rate of tooth movement may help to reduce the duration of orthodontic treatment and associated unwanted effects including orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR), demineralisation and reduced patient motivation and compliance.

Adult-onset idiopathic focal dystonias (AOIFD) are the most common type of dystonia. It has varied expression including multiple motor (depending on body part affected) and non-motor symptoms (psychiatric, cognitive and sensory). The motor symptoms are usually the main reason for presentation and are most often treated with botulinum toxin.

Adult-onset isolated focal dystonia (AOIFD) is a network disorder characterised by abnormalities of sensory processing and motor control. These network abnormalities give rise to both the phenomenology of dystonia and the epiphenomena of altered plasticity and loss of intracortical inhibition. Existing modalities of deep brain stimulation effectively modulate parts of this network but are limited both in terms of targets and invasiveness.

Introduction: Melatonin has been suggested an adjunctive therapy in neonatal encephalopathy (NE). Melatonin reduces oxidative stress and neutrophil activation; however, the immunological effects in NE have not been studied.
Methods: Infants with NE and neonatal controls were prospectively recruited.

Background: Even though communities in low-resource areas across the globe are aging, older adult mental and cognitive health services remain mainly embedded in tertiary- or secondary hospital settings, and thus not easily accessible by older adults living in such communities. Here, the iterative development of INTegRated InterveNtion of pSychogerIatric Care (INTRINSIC) services addressing the mental and cognitive healthcare needs of older adults residing in low-resource areas of Greece is depicted.
Methods: INTRINSIC was developed and piloted in three iterative phases: (i) INTRINSIC initial version conceptualization; (ii) A 5-year field testing in Andros island; and (iii) Extending the services.

The purpose of this study was to estimate monthly and annual trends in youth sports-related injury over the years 2016-2020 using the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database to measure the impact of COVID-19 on overall and sport-specific rates of injury. Children and adolescents (0-19 years) presenting to USA emergency departments with sport participation injury from 2016 to 2020 were identified. Descriptive statistical analyses were performed of injury patterns.
