Using as a food-grade carrier to create non-GMO whole-cell biocatalysts is gaining popularity. This work evaluates the immobilization yield of a chitosanase (CsnA, 30 kDa) from and a mannanase (ManB, 40 kDa) from on the surface of WCFS1 using either a single LysM domain derived from the extracellular transglycosylase Lp_3014 or a double LysM domain derived from the muropeptidase Lp_2162. ManB and CsnA were fused with the LysM domains of Lp_3014 or Lp_2162, produced in and anchored to the cell surface of .

Designing van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures of two-dimensional materials is an efficient way to realize amazing properties as well as open up opportunities for applications in solar energy conversion, nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices. The electronic structures and optical and photocatalytic properties of SiS, P and SiC van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures are investigated by (hybrid) first-principles calculations. Both binding energy and thermal stability spectra calculations confirm the stability of these heterostructures.

This study provides information on the current situation of microplastics contamination in inland freshwater bodies in Vietnam. An urban drainage channel in Da Nang City was selected as a case study. Receiving mainly domestic wastewater and landfill leachate, the channel itself is becoming a microplastic pollution hotspot with a microplastic concentration of 1482.

Background: Developing efficient and successful computational methods to infer potential miRNA-disease associations is urgently needed and is attracting many computer scientists in recent years. The reason is that miRNAs are involved in many important biological processes and it is tremendously expensive and time-consuming to do biological experiments to verify miRNA-disease associations.

Methods: In this paper, we proposed a new method to infer miRNA-disease associations using collaborative filtering and resource allocation algorithms on a miRNA-disease-lncRNA tripartite graph.

In aquatic environments, assessment of microplastic concentrations is increasing worldwide but environments from developing countries remain under-evaluated. Due to disparities of facilities, financial resources and human resources between countries, protocols of sampling, analysis and observations used in developed countries cannot be fully adapted in developing ones, and required specific adaptations. In Viet Nam, an adapted methodology was developed and commonly adopted by local researchers to implement a microplastic monitoring in sediments and surface waters of 21 environments (rivers, lakes, bays, beaches) of eight cities or provinces.

Understanding the effect of Al doping on CO adsorption at ZnO(101̄0) is crucial for designing a high-performance CO gas sensor. In this work, we investigated the adsorption properties of CO on pristine and Al-doped ZnO(101̄0) by performing DFT+U calculations. It is found that the doping of Al on ZnO(101̄0) induces the semiconductor-to-metal transition and thus enhances the conductance of the substrate.

Microplastics in shoreline sediments were investigated from Da Nang beach for the first time. Sediment samples at the two depth strata (0-5 cm and 5-10 cm) at eight sites along the entire coast were collected for identifying the characteristics of microplastics, including their concentration, size, shape, color, and nature. The synthetic fiber was the predominant type of microplastics, accounting for 99.

Background And Aim: deep learning algorithms have not been successfully used for the left ventricle (LV) detection in echocardiographic images due to overfitting and vanishing gradient descent problem. This research aims to increase accuracy and improves the processing time of the left ventricle detection process by reducing the overfitting and vanishing gradient problem.

Methodology: the proposed system consists of an enhanced deep convolutional neural network with an extra convolutional layer, and dropout layer to solve the problem of overfitting and vanishing gradient.

Hydralazine (HZ) and dihydralazine (DHZ) are phthalazine derivatives substituted at position 1 (HZ) or positions 1 and 4 (DHZ) by a hydrazinyl substituent. These compounds are widely used for treating hypertension and heart failure, essentially acting as vasodilators on the arteries and arterioles. In this study, the antioxidant activity of HZ and DHZ in the gas phase and in physiological environments was investigated by thermodynamic and kinetic calculations.

Hydroxyl Radical Scavenging of Indole-3-Carbinol: A Mechanistic and Kinetic Study.

ACS Omega

November 2019

Department of Chemistry and Physics, La Trobe University, Melbourne Victoria 3086, Australia.

Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is the product of the enzymatic hydrolysis of glucobrassicin in the human body. I3C exhibits diverse bioactivities. It is used as a supplement to enhance the efficiency of some cancer therapies and is available as an over-the-counter dietary supplement described as a potential antioxidant, among other health benefits.

Indolinonic hydroxylamine (IH) is known as a potential artificial antioxidant in apolar environments. Here, a library of 108 monosubstituted derivatives was screened in silico to identify a lead compound for increased antioxidant activity, following a strategy of shortlisting based on thermochemical and kinetic properties. It was found that the presence of substituents at the 2, 4, and 7 positions increased, while substituents in other positions decreased the BDE(O-H) values, in good correlation to the electron-donating ability of substituents.

Is Indolinonic Hydroxylamine a Promising Artificial Antioxidant?

J Phys Chem B

September 2019

Department of Chemistry and Physics , La Trobe University, Melbourne , Victoria 3086 , Australia.

Indolinonic hydroxylamine (IH) is a new-generation artificial antioxidant that, due to its ability to fractionate into apolar environments, is considered for prevention against lipid peroxidation. For this reason, it is important to understand, and compare, its activity in polar and nonpolar environments. In this study, the antioxidant activity of IH has been evaluated against HO and HOO radicals in water and, for a lipid-mimetic environment, pentyl ethanoate solvent, using kinetic calculations.

Associations Between Nutrition, Gut Microbiome, and Health in A Novel Nonhuman Primate Model.

Sci Rep

Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, University of Minnesota, 1971 Commonwealth Avenue, Saint Paul, MN, 55108, USA.

Red-shanked doucs (Pygathrix nemaeus) are endangered, foregut-fermenting colobine primates which are difficult to maintain in captivity. There are critical gaps in our understanding of their natural lifestyle, including dietary habits such as consumption of leaves, unripe fruit, flowers, seeds, and other plant parts. There is also a lack of understanding of enteric adaptations, including their unique microflora.
