Background: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) affects up to half of extremely preterm infants, and is associated with adverse long-term respiratory, neurodevelopmental, and educational sequelae and costly health service and family economic outcomes. The NICHD Neonatal Research Network Hydrocortisone for Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) Trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of hydrocortisone treatment to prevent BPD in high-risk infants. The trial enrolled 800 very preterm infants with respiratory failure and followed the participants until 2 years corrected age to assess safety of the trial intervention.

In the 3-year Tolvaptan Efficacy and Safety in Management of ADPKD and Its Outcomes (TEMPO) 3:4, 2-year extension to TEMPO 3:4 (TEMPO 4:4), and 1-year Replicating Evidence of Preserved Renal Function: An Investigation of Tolvaptan Safety and Efficacy in ADPKD (REPRISE) trials, aquaretic adverse events were common. Objectives: Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitors have been used in some patients with spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) to provide information to guide treatment without clear evidence for its use in this population. We assessed the impact of ICP monitor placement, including external ventricular drains and intraparenchymal monitors, on neurologic outcome in this population.

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) form following loss of the CCM protein complex in brain endothelial cells due to increased endothelial MEKK3 signaling and KLF2/4 transcription factor expression, but the downstream events that drive lesion formation remain undefined. Recent studies have revealed that CCM lesions expand by incorporating neighboring wild-type endothelial cells, indicative of a cell nonautonomous mechanism. Here we find that endothelial loss of ADAMTS5 reduced CCM formation in the neonatal mouse model.

This is the first human case of totally endoscopic robotic-assisted aortic valve replacement using a sutureless valve. The patient is a 76-year-old man with symptomatic severe aortic valve insufficiency. A 12-mm robotic camera port and 25-mm working port were placed in the second intercostal space, and two 8-mm arm ports in the first and the third intercostal space with femoro-femoral cardiopulmonary bypass.

A deeper understanding of the interplay between the renal axis and cardiovascular (CV) disease is needed in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We aimed to explore the prognostic value of a comprehensive panel of renal biomarkers in patients with T2DM at high CV risk. We evaluated the prognostic performance of both serum (Cystatin C) and urine renal biomarkers (neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, kidney injury molecule-1 protein, and indices of urinary protein excretion) in 5,380 patients with T2DM and recent acute coronary syndromes in the EXAMINE trial.

Background: We are not aware of any previous investigation assessing a national cohort of patients enrolled in a fracture liaison service (FLS) program in an open health-care system to ascertain prevalent practice patterns. The objective of this investigation was to determine, in a geographically diverse group of centers in a single FLS program, the percentage of patients for whom anti-osteoporosis treatment was recommended or started as well as to identify associations between patient and fracture variables and the likelihood of treatment being recommended.

Here we report a phase 1b clinical trial testing the impact of oncolytic virotherapy with talimogene laherparepvec on cytotoxic T cell infiltration and therapeutic efficacy of the anti-PD-1 antibody pembrolizumab. Twenty-one patients with advanced melanoma were treated with talimogene laherparepvec followed by combination therapy with pembrolizumab. Therapy was generally well tolerated, with fatigue, fevers, and chills as the most common adverse events.
